You can call it that if you like but the facts don't support it. |

Gee, I don't feell like I'm squirming. I think I would know if I was. Look, I really am not a big fan of Karl Rove. I have always thought the "triangulation" of Bush had him as its source. The fact is that this reporter called Karl Rove to discuss welfare reform and steered the conversation into the Joe Wilson flap. Rove warned him that Joe might not be dealing off the top of the deck and mentioned that his wife worked in for the CIA. He (Rove) heard this from another journalist (not as a result of any top secret sources), didn't know her name and did not know if she was a covert operative or not. I think it was foolish of him to even try and straighten the guy out. It was certainly foolish of him to pass on what was at that point a rumor since in doing so he gave it an official imprimatur. He certainly did Rove no favors in return. Now, you all can blow this up into treason or something if that makes you feel righteous but perhaps you should take off your rose colored Democrat glasses and look at the facts. |

I Owe It All To John D'Oh

I didn't say that you were squirming. I said that McLellan was. I don't think anyone can read that transcript or watch the press conference, when McClellan was pleading with the press corps to change the subject because they know the kind of guy he is, and not conclude that he was squirming. I didn't say that Rove committed treason, or perjury, or any crime. But McClellan stood there at the podium and told us that Bush wouldn't tolerate anyone in the Administration who had leaked a CIA operative's identity. And we know from the e-mail trail that Rove did just that. Even if you don't think it was intentional, it's pretty clear that he did it. So ... either the President pledged to fire the leaker ... in which case Rove must go .... or McClellan was unauthorized to say it .... in which case McClellan should have been gone two years ago, and W was out of his mind to reaffirm that pledge in response to a reporter's question. No matter how you look at it, it's embarrassing for the White House. No wonder they don't want to talk about it. There is no good outcome for the White House. |

Mmmmmmm, pie!

Did it ever occur to you that the White House is aware that the Democrats and the liberal media is acting like a bunch of idiots, trying to create a crime out of thin air, and that McClellan and everyone else in the White House has been told to simply keep their mouths shut and wait until the investigation is over? Let's face it - last time I checked we still operate under the innocent until proven guilty concept, yet you and the rest of the left who beat that drum for all it was worth 8 years ago not seem to want to deny this basic right to Rove. The press and the Democrats are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Any prudent person would simply keep their mouth shut and wait until the investigation was over before saying anything that these morons would twist around and use against them later. It all just another "______ lied!!!" (insert whatever Republican they are focused on this week)..... |

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, Scott McClellan was clearly squirming. It was downright embarassing. It seems clear to me that Rove was not intentionally leaking the identity of a CIA operative. What he did was foolish, however, and people often lose their jobs over foolishness. I am on the fence as to whether Bush should actually fire him. |

1. Val Plame was not a covert operative....unless you call letting her husband drop her off at work a scene out of a James Bond movie. She does work for the CIA. Of course, a lot of folks work for the CIA. Is it a reason for termination to breathe the name of one of these folks? 2. If y'all want to can Rove, have at it. I've already stated my reasons why I don't think it's a Big Deal. 3. The word, as late as this week, is that Rove will not be indicted by the SP. He has co-operated fully, as far as we know. 4. I find it mildly amusing that Rove is the personification of the Devil for so many on the Left. No wonder you guys are getting your brains beat out at the polls... |
