:bigkiss: got my vote. Most of my playing time is devoted to american standards, songs from the great american songbook. The majority of these have a romantic content. Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, etc. For variety, I reach for some piano solos or classics, but I'm no concert pianist. Please don't shoot the piano player :silly: .

I'm not sure I want to know what they're doing with their right hand while brewing...

Ivory:

The town where we live, Niwot, means "Left Hand" in Arapahoe. Chief Niwot was the leader of the Arapahoe tribe that lived in this area, and was of course left handed. Many business and ladmarks in this area have the "left hand" name, Left Hand Canyon, Left Hand Brewing, Left Hand Water Supply, etc.

Chief Niwot was massacred along with nearly 500 others at the Sand Creek Massacre. The Third Colorado Regiment mortally wounded him, and while he did escape the battlefield, he died only a few days later. His valiant effort to defend his people (who were guaranteed protection moments before their massacre) is not forgotten.

KB, I had always thought that Niwot (or as he is called in English, Black Kettle) was a Southern Cheyenne.

interesting, I've never hear him called "black kettle", or Cheyenne.

Community Page

There are numerous mentions of him being Arapahoe if you google his name.

I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but I think Chief Black Kettle, and Chief Niwot are two different people. Both are listed as being at Sand Creek, and both were Chiefs, but of different tribes.

Thanks for the link. I got the two confused- it's been awhile since I read about Sand Creek; like about 15 years or more.

You're welcome. Likewise, I didn't know they were seperate people until reading that synopsis of Sand Creek myself. :)

Tee hee - I grew up listening to Bluegrass. My dad was a pretty talented bluegrass banjo player back in the day. I don't listen to it now, but when I hear it it brings back memories of travelling around to bluegrass and folk festivals.

There's a local bar not too far from here that has bluegrass on Wednesday evenings. We go at least every other week. I love it and also grew up around it. I dated a guy that had a bluegrass band in the 70's. He was from Paradise, Maryland and they were called the Paradise Pickers. I loved it if not him.

Anyhow, does anyone have a favorite bluegrass song? Orange Blossom Special comes to mind. But, I prefer Glendale Train. Anyone else ever heard of it?

You bet Peggy I know the tune. I wouldn't say I have any particular favourite bluegrass tune although Bill Monroe's Long Black Veil must be pretty much up there. I really like the original Seldom Scene, Blue Highway, Del McCoury, Pete Rowan, Alison Krauss & Union Station and most recently have been listening to a lot of Rhonda Vincent & the Rage.

That's okay KB, I know its embarassing to have to admit knowing a banjo player especially a damn fine one- I to hate to admit that I know Craig Korth. ;)
