He's a muckraker.

He's to politics as the National Enquirer is to celebrities.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

Quirt,

I agree he is a muckraker.

But muckraking has a long and proud history in American politics. Think Sinclair Lewis.

I tend to not like Drudge, but I like muckraking in politics. It keeps things a bit more honest -- or perhaps just a bit less corrupt.

Drudge is obviously more to the right/libertarian, as anyone whose ever heard his radio program can hear. I don't listen to him, partly because of when he's on here, but mostly because I can't stand the sound of his voice.

As to his website, I've heard a lot of people complaining about it as if it's some awful thing. In fact, it almost never has any of Drudge's actual opinion on it. It's all but exclusively just a large list of links to various news sites and syndicated columnists, both left- and right-leaning, and from the US and international sources. The "top of the page" is a list of "headline" links that seem to generally be about the hottest news of the day, a bit of entertainment gossip, and usually a few "news of the weird" type stories.

All in all, hardly anything for people to get all worked up about.

I'll answer your other comments later, but my primary priority for the rest of the evening is to get drunk." - Klaus, 12/31/14

he should move on.

What do you mean, he should move on?

He has moved on. He started out with primarily Hollywood insider stuff. Insider because he got news that wasn't released or official or sanctioned. (And if you knew this you would know how he got it). That was his primary interest. Over time he has broadened into hard news and gets stuff relayed to him that would give most reporters wet dreams.

His site gets between 8-10 million hits a day, and I'm pretty sure those are unique hits (he used to explain this). It's because of him that various writers get half of their readership.

Would you be interested in posting how many hits the NYT or Washington Post gets?

I check his page for news far more than any other site.

He's the first to break many stories, and many radio and tv news programs more or less read off his page for news.

To answer your question Kenny,

He's probably |DEM|----------------------|middle|--X-------------------|GOP|

He's clearly to the right, occasionally he reports news, but more often than not he's simply on the leading edge of the drudge->ny post->foxnews gossip machine.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

He's a muckraker.

Sometimes, a surprisingly equal opportunity muckraker.

Much of what is talked about, around water coolers everywhere, first appears on his page.

He's here for the long haul....

...AND he works by himself. No help at all. I found that astonishing when I heard it, I figured he had a bunch of oompa-loompas helping him find new stories.

He just takes his laptop everywhere with a Wifi connection and updates it whenever.

I just watched the video of the Tom Cruise thing...it's on the Today Show's website.

My respect went way up for Matt Lauer after it, he handled himself very well.

Although Tom Cruise is still a great actor.

Story about CNN

And now, a story by Reuters/Hollywood Reporter! Fascist!

I can't go back to his sight anymore, it hurts my sensibilities and makes me a want to eat raw steak, take a dip in a $60 barrel of crude oil, and club some baby seals.
