It's mainly something to be experienced, not analyzed. Am I supposed to seriously consider what Gould had to say about such a subject? I suggest he didn't have a clue as to what it really means to experience folk music as a vital ingredient of one's social life and development.
You presume a lot on his part. And would you say that The Archies, The Osmonds, or The Partridge Family are musically equally as valid if they played a significant part in some people's lives? How about Zager and Evans? Personally I prefer Hart and Boyce's Monkeys tunes to the Beatles. Gould's statement "Strawberry Fields suggests a chance encounter at a mountain wedding between Claudio Monteverdi and a jug band" is spot on. What utter Posted Image passed off as real music or something significant.

Sgt. Pepper? :lol2:

Oh, if I have to vote, I agree with Mark. Harrison. No question.

Could that also include Grand Funk Railroad and Ted Nugent & the Amboy Dukes? :leaving:

"Wait...Mark Farner has something to say. No, he doesn't."

(Remember that newspaper clipping in the album liner?) :D
