LOL, Jolly.

Assumed consent is just another way of saying "opt out". If it's good enough for banks and credit card companies on privacy issues, why not extend it a little closer to home with your corpse. I am saying this very much tongue in cheek because the plethora of opt-outs makes it onerous to keep up with. I despise the practice.

I could see some merit to a generalized incentive system. I've had the organ donor designation on my driver's license since back when it was a wrap-around piece of paper. If a discount was offered on license renewals, I wonder if it would significantly increase participation?

I believe there are some that have genuine objections to donating their organs for various reasons. To tread on their liberty, even in death, with a mandatory donation is not right.

I would think that pathologists were an odd bunch, however. Sort of like you went into medicine, but decided you didn't really like people.

So what's your view? I assumed you'd be opposed to paying money for organs.

Aw, heck, why wait? If we can make folks give up their own bodies AFTER they're dead, why don't we just finish them off once we're pretty sure they're headed that way?

Terminal diagnosis, yer done for, so please remove all clothing and jewelry and lay on the gurney. You won't feel a thing. It serves the greater good, cause you're going to die anyway, and if we take your organs now, then someone else will not die waiting for a transplant.

Indeed as we age our internal resources become truly depreciable assets. The dictatorship of the bean counters would absolutely love mandatory organ donation.

I suppose I should let it be known that I am a registered organ donor, should I have not ruined them all by then.

But.. I dated a nurse once, who was appalled at the notion because she was sure God would hold her to account for all the 'original parts' He put her here with. Really. I found that notion a little odd, but I would defend her right to determine how her remains are treated.

But.. it did bring up an interesting point, of God as an OEM. :D

Given that aged organs are depreciable assets (as AC notes), it would be better to develop a Delta class of humans to provide young healthy tissue and organs for us Alphas for when we need them.

Pay?

Perhaps, if viewed very literally.....how about if you check off the organ donor box, we waive half your driver's license fee?

You're probably right Apple, humans are such idiots, particulary when charity becomes a mandatory ordinance or piece of legislation.
