HOLY CARP!!!
The principal just called me.

He said:

"Hi Sharon. I'm prepared to offer you the .9 position in T___. Do you think you'll accept it?" "Ummm...well, let me think. yeah I think I will!" (laughter)

He told me that I'll be expected to attend the staff meeting next Thursday. My response was "Sure! Whatever you want! Need your car washed?" More laughter. He sounded really happy to offer it to me as well :D

So I'm officially a PERMANENT teacher!! Benefits, a decent starting wage, security for a year, making more money than I've ever made (in fact, more than my husband and I ever made together :o We were pretty poor, though!) and working in the school I've been dreaming about working in! :D

I'm giddy!

Thanks for all the support, everyone! :D

So Dolmansaxlil, clarify something for me please ...
Did you get the special ed. job in the original school you applied for, the one where you thought your school mate (with seniority) had applied, or is this a different position?
...Just wondering ...

Congrats again too :)

Same position, katie! :D She decided not to apply because she really didn't want it! Obviously I'm thrilled! I'm still shocked that no one else applied. And tremendously giddy about it!

And thanks, all, for listening to my incesant whining about the job hunt! I'm just relieved it's over!

My mom got her grad degree in special ed education (my sister is spec. ed), and she actually taught special ed for a few years but moved onto 1st grade about 4 years ago. Cool stuff dol...special ed is HARD work, and only a small percentage of teachers could really do it. :thumb:

89th - it's a pretty low level spec ed job. Kids with Learning Disabilities, for the most part. I just give assistance to the classroom teachers with students that need accomodations. Also I'm responsible for testing, developing their IEPs, attending IPRC meetings (where students are formally identified and the follow ups to that) etc.

Steve Miller: Shush you. And I doubt I've purchased them yet!

Ah yes, the infamous IEPs (gotta love those TLAs, three letter acronyms ;)) tests. I heard that acronym MANY a time...but it sounds like what you're doing is really cool and valuable.

Seriously, teachers that deal with any kind of special ed kids are priceless, and I have a feeling you're good to go. Congrats again. :)
