HOLY CARP!!!

I must have seen this argument a dozen times: That letting people carry guns suppresses crime because the prospective criminals would be afraid that their targets (or by-standers) would should them. (I quoted Larry but it's an argument presented by quite a few other pro-gun folks in the past; it's the argument that I'm after; there is nothing personal against Larry here.) By that argument, letting all school children carry guns to schools should be a good thing too! Because if some misguided child were to try to pull a Columbine, he would have been shot to bits by his classmates before he has the chance to kill too many people. Might as well arm all the teachers, janitors, and other staff in schools. Loaded guns might as well be as abundantly placed throughout the school buildings as fire extinguishers. I think that makes the "more guns --> less crime" argument a dumb one. What say you? |

Ax, you've actually made my heart skip a beat!! Just think how perfect our world would be if only this could come to pass. We could all sit around the campfire, my Kimber holstered contently under my arm and my Kahr hugging my ankle while in unison we sing Kumbaya and Michael Row the Boat Ashore. Thanx for making my day Mark |

It works, but not on a national level. Only in certain situations, IMO. I am an advocate of hard punishments though. You don't wear a seatbelt when you get in a crash, whether it's your fault or not...insurance doesn't pay. You murder? You do life in a labor camp. You steal? You get shot in the hand. You rape? You get shot in the , if you know what I'm sayin.

I carried a gun to school. Quite often, in fact. Winchester Model 190 autoloader, with 15 hollowpoints up the tube. Have been known to walk out to my old truck, put it on my shoulder, and walk out the front gates of the school. Principal always told me to make sure I got my tail back to class on time, after I got through running my traps.... |
