Guilt-Free SUV?; Buy your forgiveness

HOLY CARP!!!
Buy smog credits to alleviate your emission guilt.

(snip)

Since car drivers are under no legal compulsion to try to compensate for their tailpipe emissions, the TerraPass will only appeal to those who feel some guilt about their driving, and want to do something about it.

Not surprisingly, few SUV drivers have been buying them. Most have gone to owners of fuel-efficient cars that produce relatively few pollutants.

That initially surprised Arnold.

"We fully expected to target SUV drivers with SUV guilt," he said. "It just doesn't exist"

Just trying to help.

I know all the SUV owners are hanging their heads in shame lately, and crying at the gas pump.
Just sharing the love.

I don't think they're doing that.

Either way, I'm happy gas prices are going up...it will force the government to eventually release their new technology for cars. Biodiesel, hydrogen, or something else...

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

release their new technology?

You mean put into production technology that is over 100 years old?

The hydrogen fuel cells provide the best alternative I think, but require the most work in terms of infrastructure.

I'd love to see the infrastructure in place for hydrogen within the next 10 years, but I don't think it will happen.

What really needs to change though, are people's lifestyles. There's no reason to live 15 or 20 miles away from everything you need. I understand many commute to work, but to have to drive everywhere for everything is silly. Why do we require so much space?

release their new technology?

I know the military is different, but what we see now are planes that were actually released 20 years earlier. Like the F-117 for example.

I dunno, I just think the government has the possibility to release new standard technology, but it's the massive change in general infrastructure that is a barrier, kinda like you were saying KB.
