Well, it's the only way I could politely act out on my frustration about everyone's willingness to take this story at face value.

I guess as an Orthodox Christian I guess there's "something else" to it... as the evidence provided so far would indicate this wasn't traditional.

Demonic possession is *the* topic that became the last straw for me about the possiblilty of religion being reality based. It pushed me away forever when I was about 12 years old.

Demons inhabiting the body of a human being is pure BS and has no basis in fact whatsoever. The fact that people still believe this in this day and age is beyond me.

If I had never heard of the term Exorcism or demonic possession I would probably still be attending mass.

idiots.

of course I do not belive in demons in the first place so...

I'm always amazed that someone with such knowledge of the vastness of what's out there insists that they have the physical world and the spiritual world all figured out.

I sure don't

Btw, I have met exorcists (bona fide Catholic priests working under the authority of the bishop) and trust their judgment. They are very savvy at figuring out what is psychological or chemical, and what cannot be explained through physical means. Real evil out there, just as there is real goodness. And what they do WORKS to heal people from "possession". Go figure.

You might think that all religion is nutty or superstitious or medieval/pre-modern -- but there are actual Satanists out there who believe that they have sold their souls to the devil and work for him. I don't doubt it, but nor do I dwell on it.

Something else in the same general vein, Fizzy.

One bright, beautiful Sunday morning, everyone in the tiny town of Johnstown got up early and went to the local church. Before the services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews and talking about their lives, their families, etc. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other.

Soon everyone was evacuated from the Church, except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew, not moving . . . seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.

Now this confused Satan a bit, so he walked up to the man and said, "Don't you know who I am?" The man replied, "Yep, sure do."

Satan asked, "Aren't you afraid of me?"

"Nope, sure ain't," said the man.

Satan was a little perturbed at this and queried, "Why aren't you afraid of me?"

The man calmly replied, "Been married to your sister for over 48 years."

I offered up my own Faustian bargain but apparently Satan didn't accept it, since I still can't play like Liszt. :D

I sure don't

I never said I had the entire universe figured out.

I have however figured out that demonic possession is BS.

Are you an exorcist KB?

You believe in demonic possession?

I would need to see irrefutable evidence on this topic. It does not exist.

Hey, to each their own I suppose.

Life is too damn short to worry about religion IMO.

And yes, Ivory, I do view religion as an antiquated and completely wrong view of the universe.

Alas, I do not think that the human species will ever grow up where this is concerned.

I live my life as though every day could be my last. I treat everyone I know and even those I do not know with kindness and respect (you know the do unto others thing and all?) no matter what they believe or do not believe.

If I disrespected anyone with my views on this matter I sincerely apologize.

I did not mean to call anyone here an idiot.

The people who caused the death of a human being because of a religious practice are guilty of murder pure and simple.

And *they* are the idiots to which I was referring.

I'm not sure about current demonic situations although I do believe demons are real.

Mark, I believe there are ZERO aliens out there (intelligent beings) in the universe. I just dont believe in them at all, kinda like your view with demons I guess, so I cant get mad at you for it.

Religion is a personal thing, a decision each person will eventually make. Some dont believe in it at all, some do.

Personally, I only see good things coming out of religion, specifically Christianity. Sure there are anomalies like the KKK or the Taliban that use their religion for harm...but ideally, "religion" is one of the best things have ever "happened" to human beings.

Perhaps, but empirically and historically its been one of the worst things to have happened to man.

Perhaps, but empirically and historically its been one of the worst, perhaps the single worst thing to have happened to man.

I would venture a large wager that more murder, rape, torture, enslavement and human misery has been the result of the rejection of those values that traditional religion has sought to maintain in society, than by those who uphold these values. From the Terror of 1789, to the Armenian Genocide to the despotic regimes of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, etc. your "secular humanism" has a much worse historical track record than all the wars fought in the name of religion, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, etc.

Take heed of my sig line.

I dunno....

The Parthenon, pyramids, the colonization of America, etc - lots of huge events in history can be traced back to religion in one way or another...

What is irrefutable evidence?
I realize that you have an idea in your head of what that is, but you seem closed to the possibility that it can exist because you personally haven't experienced it.
The irrefutable evidence may exist regardless.

There's irrefutable evidence as to the existence of Supermassive black holes, but it's not really within my grasp. It might as well not exist, because I don't understand it ... it isn't in my frame of reference. I am smart enough though, to understand that while red-shift and blue-shift may mean absolutely nothing to me, they are very real indicators to the astronomer about the gravitational pull of an object.

you've seen things and have understanding based on that that I will probably never comprehend mark. The parts of the heavens that your eyes have physically seen are fantasy to me.
I don't doubt that you've seen it though.

It is possible that I've also seen things that you have not, and have experienced things that are fantasy to you. While this may be wholly unbelievable, I would hope that the example of myself I present in other areas would sufficiently kill any doubt of me making something up or being entirely crazy.
That being established then, what is operating outside of our normal perception? What is it that I have experienced and seen?
So you don't believe it's what I believe it is... that's fine. But certainly it isn't fair to declare it all BS, and anyone who believes in it an idiot.

Again, as it pertains to this story, there is something more going on. The Orthodox Church is very traditional, and what has been reported so far was not part of any Orthodox ritual or tradition that I'm personally aware of.
Religion seems to be the coverup here for something else.
