Well I just wrote this long post, and then it was deleted somehow. I hate it when that happens. Ok what I was saying, was that I've had this one version of Rach3 that was an mp3 file...and it doesn't have a name on it. It was the first version of Rach3 that I ever heard, and it's by FAR my favorite. I listen to it at least 5 times a week (in my car) and it never gets old. But I've been searching for it for a LONG time, trying to figure out who played it, when, etc... and I finally bought a CD off of amazon that had near-identical track lengths, and it came today...BAM, it's it! ![]() I know this isn't something to be too excited about, but I've been searching/wonder for a LONG time.... Anyway: 1996 or 1997 Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra conductor: Jansug Kakhidze Nato Ts'vereli, piano ...anyone have/heard this performance? Opinions? |

HOLY CARP!!!

As long as David Helfgott's hacking of it isn't your favorite, you're OK. Nikolai Dimidenko also has a wonderful recording of it, as does Voldos (my personal favorite). |

You'd do well to ask "iamcanadian" from Pianoworld. He's heard just about every recording in history. |

KB, If ever you get the chance to see Demidenko in recital, grab it. He is a brilliant interpreter of virtually everything I've heard from him, but particularly Schubert, Beethoven and Bach. He sometimes performs in a duo with the cellist Leonid Gorokhov; it's amazing to see them play together - truly synergetic music-making. David |
