Remember stingray bikes back when we were kids? Here are the new 2005 models! I bought one for my son's birthday present today. He turns 12 in two weeks and this is all he has been asking for. Very awesome bike. Stingray |

Yep, mine was the "classic" as well. Fizzy, I first saw one like your son's a year or so ago and wished I was a kid again and could have one. I even sat on it at Toys R Us and knew a certain 40 yr old needed to put away childish things. My first Stingray was called a "fast back" and it had skinny tires and was purple. I then bought my brothers blue bike with a cool "t-handle" shifter, "racing slick" rear tire, bobbed rear fender and white sparkly seat. I was in heaven. I rode that thing on a two separate 50 mile bike hikes w/my boy scout troop. It was a pain going uphill and watching all those 10-speeds (remember when that was the most you could get?) leave me behind, but no one could keep up with me on the down hill! I also remember all the "apple crates", "orange crates" and one other crate, which I can't remember the fruit or the color. Hope your son loves it even more. |

Kincaid.. it was the Lemon Crate,, and yellow. I had an Apple Crate, upon which I nearly died many, many times. It was great. |

Banana seat, ape-hanger handle bars, yeah, I remember. |

I think the Schwinn Sting Ray bike was a precursor to the current mountain bike. I had a Schwinn Sting Ray bike when I was a kid. It had a long banana seat, high handle bars, hand operated brake levers, three speed gearing, fat tires, cost about $100, and was sky blue. Because of the small wheel size and fat tires it wasn't too fast but it was very practical. I hardly ever got flat tires unlike the skinny tired racing style bicycles I later owned as an adult. I like to think of those Sting Rays as "urban bikes" and not kids bikes because they looked good and handled well in an urban environment which is fraught with pot holes, broken sidewalks, etc. |

Aren't they cool? My brother had the one with skinny tires and banana seat and monkey handle bars. So cool back in the 60s......even cooler now! I love the old bike styles. On another note, I wish they would bring back the 1965 Mustang style car. I used to have one of those and foolishly let it go.

Well, Fizzy, you can get pretty close to a '65 Mustang. The new 2005 is very close to a 67-68. I want one. Legend Lime. That would be one childish thing I don't think I'd have to put away.

Yes Kincaid, I saw one the other day and wondered what it was. Hubby informed me it was the new mustang. Maybe a couple more years and they will have it back to the original style!

I had one of those when I was a kid. It was gold, and I called it "Lightening". I attached string to the handle bars (reins) and stuffed alfalfa pellets down an opening in the front. We galloped through the streets jumping curbs. jodi
