Ok... I'm stifling laughter at this point... and going to go play for a few minutes on the piano so as not to take this one too far.

Don't you find it ironic that moveon.org isn't, well, moving on?

I went over there briefly. I took one look at John Andrew's avatar and figured it probably wasn't the place for me.

JB,

You probably already know this because you know a lot of things, but an upsidedown flag is not a sign of disrespect...it is a sign of distress. A universal symbol. So perhaps the symbol you thought you saw was not.

Phlebas, I think Jack was right-on in "bothering" to tell us that.

Jack is showing (as he always has) that he's someone who can respect, and get along with lots of different types of people.

My words are not to stir up any sort of sentiment against WTF (you'll notice I'm not one who badmouths the WTF), but to honestly communicate how I feel about posting there: unwelcome.

For what it's worth, with 59 posts there I feel that I've spent enough time there to know where I stand with people...

Thanks KB. I started this thread and then forgot all about it and now it is on page 5. I guess I hit some kind of nerve.

Jack I checked it out and even joined. Will probably only post on select threads like the great wine thread you started. btw, just had a bottle of the Nobilo and loved it!!
I'm absolutely crazy about NZ Sauvignon Blancs as well and, as a result, have become interested in the South African whites. But like you, haven't tried them yet.
How's that for a hijack!

Great hijack! I have a bottle of Nobilo in the fridge. Tru the Isabel and the Kim Crawford. Twice the price and a wee bit better.

Jody's right,

And let me add: everyone's been pretty nice to me over there. As long as you play by their rules--you won't have any problems.

Tom, thank you for that honest review. I don't get over here as much as I would like and I am very happy to find you there as much as i do.

In fact I will reply to my own post.

There was a thread over at WTF about what was the funniest post.....in the OCR I guess...and i did not reply but mt thought was that the posts that make me chuckle out loud are usually one-liners from TomK.....when he is on he is funny.

I saw it too, and I understood its meaning perfectly. The sentiment behind it and that were detailed in some of the attached posts were a big factor in my deciding not to frequent the place. I like to debate, but only when there's some basis in reality. I prefer to hang out in a place where the ratio of "potential for enjoyable conversation and debate"-to-"potential for meaningless rehashing of entrenched hysterical dogma" results in a number greater than 1. Personally, I find that here.

But I agree with Tom. There's nothing wrong with there being three separate groups. Everyone tends to associate with those they're generally more ccomfortable with, but any of us is perfectly free to visit the others any time we might want. There are people that hang out at WTF that I miss "seeing" on a regular basis, but the baggage of others there make the tradeoff of chatting with them more often not worthwhile. It's like a family: I like to see lots of my relatives at the occasional wedding, funeral, or reunion, but I know that I would have problems with some of them if I were in more frequent or closer contact with them. I thought Tom's analogy was spot-on.

There are times, however, that I wish there were a few more liberally minded people over here to debate with, but I've had no interest in joining in any of WTF's politicl discussions. Way to left to be enjoyable. That being said, I do miss a few people that don't come over here. Cindy for one. But I do feel the same way KB described earlier, completely ignored.

And KB, weren't you atually a assistant administrator or something like that originally? I think Peggy was too. Yet, here both of you are.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

well that had more to do with people setting up boards and not reading carefully than Cindy choosing me to be a "super administrator".

She coined the term "super administrator" and gave it to MattG and I ... but I don't think she realized the power she gave us ... OR she is just very trusting (I guess I'd prefer the latter).
Anyway, she gave us this access to be able to make adjustments in terms of layout and such (though I was never told what changes to make), but really we had the power to steal the place.
Kind of dangerous for a guy like me to have the power to ban everyone but the owner... :)
(j/k of course... I'm perfectly harmless).

Today I posted there a bit because I had time to actually track more than just this place. We'll see how it goes. There are people who used to talk to me a lot, who just don't over there. But I've also "changed" a lot since the OCR.
I'm much more "me" now... and I'd "reckon" that some just don't like that very much.
*shoulder shrug*
I don't mind... for now I will continue to post there when there's something I feel I can contribut to.

I haven't noticed all that much of a difference, KB.

I agreed with you sometimes, not often, then. I agree with you sometimes, not often, now.

I liked you then. I like you now.

Everything seems copacetic to me.

KB - it's interesting to hear you say that you've changed since coming over here. I definitely have shown the true "me" here much more than I did on the OCR. (and over there I barely posted - not true here).

LD - I think it would be interesting to debate with you. I'm about as liberal as they come (and yet I don't feel I fit in over at WTF, either...) and debating with someone with whom I obviously have quite a bit in common with in a lot of ways, but differ in some major political/philosophical areas, is always interesting (and sometimes frustrating!).

I think some of the folks over there need to stay over there. It isn't a forum that's open to differing opinions. I've written 3 posts there, and have had one edited and one deleted, and in neither case did I say a thing wrong. God help me if I actually expressed an opinion.

The same thing happened to me, plus I was banned. My only post there was explaining some misinformation posted by...you.

Oh yea, that was on YOUR websute.

LD: I also share in Dolmansaxlil's comments b/c I too tend to have a liberal mindset. I admire the WTF folk very much; however, a few of their members seem to be so very articulate and intelligent (a.k.a. crack debaters) . At times, for me at least, this seems intimidating, despite my strong opinions. Odd to say, but here in TNCR, many of the more conservative folk seem fairly tolerant of my liberalism.

Saying this though, I do like all 3 forums. I like change, variety, a different flow. Crazy as it is, things tend to get static otherwise.

That is not based on political ideology Katie because I do the same thing and I am so not a lefty when it comes to politics.

Katie,

Thanks for putting into words how I felt about some folks at WTF.. as much as I like Cindy, and a lot of others over there, I feel like the post/rebuttal character of threads seems to me like a tiresome one-upsmanship, and it becomes a war of how one phrases something rather than ideas.

I do like the wine thread... :cool2:

So true for piano ... but I tend to do it for symphony too. Don't know why either, b/c from where I sit, I'm in direct range of the percussionists, & and frankly I'd rather be square centre in front of the strings. Habit, I suppose. I should really take a better look at what I'm choosing. :)
