Since you're referencing my post, let me say, I'm sorry you feel that way. I enjoyed reading your post, although I disagreed with it. I did not expect to sway your opinion. Did you expect to sway mine? If that's what you're expecting to do , then WTF (and yes, guys, I think of what you're thinking when I read those letters, but it makes me chuckle) is not the place for you. However, if you enjoy intelligent back and forth discourse on heady topics sans personal insults, then it's a great place. That said, I personally, would like to see more conservative opinion over there. PS: Facts matter a lot to me. I am swayed greatly by facts. BTW, I just posted three fact-filled articles to support my position in that thread. |

I compared it to intermission at the symphony, but an equally good example might be a church social ... and your grandmother is over by the punch bowl. You'd mind your manners, wouldn't you? Another good analogy is the Senate versus the House. In the Senate, everyone is referred to as "my esteemed colleague" and "the gentleman from Missouri"; in the House, it's "that sumbitch over there". Peggy, I'm sorry you feel that way. I've had some profound disagreements with people on WTF far more liberal than I, and I may not be able to persuade them, but I've never felt that no one was listening. |

Wasn't paying attention KathyK ( I don't count posts) - just consider yourself lucky and don't call me Ren. Only Jodi and NAK are allowed that indulgence. ...BTW dosen't it bother you that I live in the country all you Yankee liberal types dream and wish you had? G'vt run affordable health care insurance G'vt administered pension plan in addition to basic social security Equitable fiscal federalism among the regions Regulated utilities Soon to have same sex marriage legislation High quality public education Affordable university/college tuition Complete and total separation of Church and State Inclusion for all minorities and policy of multiculturalism Gun control A UN team player A non threatening foreign policy ....I just don't know where to stop; the list of utopian liberalisms is endless. |

Is that from the new Willy Wonka? And Ren, I should think it would bother you more than me. That said, I've always held your country in high regard. I spent my first 14 years with a bedroom overlooking it (across the St. Clair River), have several old hippy Canadian relatives and cherish my fun-filled memories from Ipperwash Prov. Park. |

QE, You misunderstood or maybe I expressed myself wrong. What I meant by this----> is that the arguments get old. I'm not going to sway anyone with my moderate stance on issues. And, it's difficult for someone like me to argue effectively with lawyers. Nothing against lawyers I just don't like arguing with them. Especially when I've been called the *naive housewife type* by one of them. What kind of respect is that?

Nope the old (and I'm predicting) better one. You just can't beat Gene Wilder's performance. This new movie apparently follows the book though (critics said the old one didn't follow the book), and Johnny Depp is a great actor. So I think it'll be a different feel. Kinda like comparing the old and new Star Wars movies...they're just different "movies". |

Not really because in reality I would probably wash out as a Joe Leiberman style Democrat or maybe a Bull Moose Republican. And you should hold the country in high regard- it is what US liberals aspire towards. Just don't call me Ren- I mean it. |

No, you posted 3 liberal biased articles that omit the facts that don't fit with their intended goal - and completely ignored the facts given to you regarding your fatally flawed view as to whether or not Saddam had ties to 9/11. Which is what makes it impossible to have a calm, intelligent discussion with you. |

Your sensitivity to being called the name you chose for youself baffles me. "Three liberal biased articles:" From the NY Times, CS Monitor and MSN News. And this from someone infamous for posting from the most extremist screeds. But, you're right about one thing - calm discussion with you is an exercise in futility.

This is why it is futile to try to have a discussion with liberals. I have posted a very well researched bit of information for you - have you even read it, or are you just dismissing it out of hand? Would you give any credence to the data put before you anyway? Probably not. If I produced a video of Saddam and Bin Laden holding up a sign saying they did it, you would most likely ignore that too. Figuring out how they are connected requires looking at a much broader picture than most antiwar sympathizers care to look at. |

I had an opportunity to work in Toronto once. If the money had been better, I might have taken it. Marvelous city. Wonderful country. And now, with global warming, it's practically the tropics! Oops, I forgot, according to the Bush Administration there's no such thing as global warming. |

Not to hijack this thread, but you all do know that the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption emitted more particulate pollution than has been emitted by all of humankind's industrial activity. Not to mention that a volcano in Hawaii produces SIX THOUSAND times the amount of pollution from a mainland US major industrial polluter. Oh, another fun tidbit...did you know it actually does more harm to the planet when we recycle than if we didn't at all. The problem is the system is already running...but the recycling process is actually hurting our environment. For example, for every piece of recycled trash, it's as if a dumptruck drove from Atlantic City to DC, picked up the one piece of trash and brought it back - since it takes more energy (and thusly pollution) to pick up and process recycled items than the actual recycled item itself. Long story short, it would be better if we didn't have a recycling program at all...but for now, the more people that recycle the better since the system is already in place. Ok back to the discussion.
