I was in the studio audience for David Letterman's first anniversary show (yes, I'm older than dirt). I was in NYC on a field trip while in college. I'm actually part of the show, too. Andrea Martin was one of Dave's guests. I happened to be sitting directly in front of her parents. She introduced them, and the camera turned to capture them, and there I was also, in all my Woolrich-sweater, penny-loafer, preppie college guy glory. It would be hilarious to actually have a video of that show, to see how young I looked then.

I've never been in a studio audience, but I did know a movie star. My grandparents were good friends with Joseph Cotten and whenever he returned to his hometown he always came to see them. Sometimes I would be staying with them for a weekend and he would show up with his wife, Patricia Medina, who I thought was one the most glamourous creatures on earth. When my grandfather died, Mr. Cotten sent my grandmother a lovely letter of condolence. In that letter he alluded to a "what if" scenario...because the two of them had, at one time before she married my grandfather, been more than just "friends."

Yes, but it was a lot of years ago. A LOT of years ago. And it was a kids' show. |

In (let's see) 1966 or '67, I was in the studio audience (Miami Beach) for an episode of the *Honeymooners* with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney.

Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism. We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. | |

A few of each, but that kind of comes with the So CA territory. I think what I enjoy most are being in the focused audiences being polled for new shows and for comemrcials. Lots of fun to turn those dials continuously, based on whether the moment is good or bad. |

I've never been in a TV audience or rubbed elbows with any stars, but I have relatives who have. Our cousin Stevie (short for Stephanie) works for Spielberg and also for Ron Howard. She is the production accountant for their movies...in other words, she hands out the checks, makes sure they stay in budget, and tells some of the superstars "NO! You can't order live Maine lobster and have it flown in for dinner every night!" She is always on location with them. Right now she is working on the movie version of "Rent" which is nice for her cause she is in San Francisco. She has a home in LA, so she didn't have to travel far this time. Her mother, our Aunt Caroline, was best friends with Tippy Hedren, the blonde actress in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." So Aunt Caroline traveled in circles with Tippy and was invited to some of "those parties" we all hear about. My aunt is now 75 years old and lives here in MN. She is a portrait artist and author of children's books. Her sister, Aunt Jean, is a concert pianist also living in LA. Aunt Jean and Leonard Bernstein were piano students together when they were young. She was a lifelong friend of Leonard. She still teaches even now at age 81! Dave's father, although not a movie star, worked in the world of television as a news anchor, sportscaster and weather man at KSTP TV here in Minneapolis. That was back when they used to actually write the temperature on the weather board! We have some old video tape of him giving the weather report. He's 79 now. Back in 1994, my in-laws and Aunt Caroline traveled to see Stevie on location somewhere in Utah or Arizona I believe. They were filming 'Wyatt Earp' with Kevin Costner. I guess Kevin is a really nice guy. He and Stevie would play board games together when he wasn't shooting to pass the time. The day Stevie introduced Aunt Caroline to Kevin Costner was comical. Aunt Caroline was holding a bottle of spring water and when she went to shake his hand, she poured the water out onto his boots! He looked at his boots and then back up at Aunt Caroline and said, "Now THAT's funny!" "Nice to meet ya." Aunt Caroline wanted the ground to swallow her up she felt so embarrassed. But she got over it! |

Yes. Remember a show named Hullabaloo, from the 60s? They filmed an episode in, I think, Palm Springs; I was there with my family. |

Letterman is a show I've wanted to go to for so long...but haven't as yet... Have been in the audience for Jeopardy and Family Feud. Have met some sitcom stars... After college I spent a summer working at UCLA at this camp for high school kids. We would spend our evenings in Westwood, and occassionally went and stood by the red carpet to watch the stars walk by...Samuel Jackson, LL Cool J, Danny DeVito, Salma Hayek, etc... fun times. |

I'd like to be part of the Oprah Show - the favorite things show when she surprises the audience and gives everything away. I could use a new car!
