Wait? is this the first time we heard of Animal Man becoming a white lantern? I wonder what the long term plan with Buddy is? He's been showing up a little more than in past years what with this and his mini series. I wonder if they are planning on killing him to make room for Gar to take the title. Gar has been moving closer to what he looked like as Animal Man. Frankly I hope it's not the case tho, Animal Man feel like a cope out name for someones with beastboy's powers. With buddy's powers, the name isn't as on the nose, but I'd prefer Gar keep the Beast monicer somehow. |

Buddy was a White Lantern in the later stages of Blackest Night, along with a bunch of other heroes. As for a long term plan, I'm not sure there is one. He pops in from time to time because he's a fan favorite and DC seems to like using him every now and then, but aside from that he doesn't show up much unless DC's having a 52 Space Team reunion story. As for the Titans of Tomorrow thing, I honestly think we should all just forget about it. That story was so long ago in this titles publishing history and it was largely tied to Infinite Crisis. None of the other characters are ever going to assume the mantles they held. I doubt Gar is either. It reminds me of the fears of DC making him Mangerie when we're some thirteen odd years removed from Kingdom Come. If anything, DC probably doesn't want to touch that well again for a good while; it's no secret that the Teen Titans have hit that well way too much in the past several years. |

I hope the same, but one problem is that Gar can't be Beast "boy" forever. I mean he's already pushing it and I feel alot of people still assume that he's an immature character because of it. I mean Kid Devil changed his name and he was still 16. I think DC has been considering this, but there simply aren't many good code names to give him. I want his powers and overall personality to remain how it is, but the name will limit him down the line until he's reconned from aging (more so than is normal in comics, I mean) As I said, i don't like the name Animal Man for him, but I don't think Beast Man would work much better. If he stayed how he was (no personality or power changes) I wouldn't mind him going by Managerie. Not only is it original, but it's also a clever way of implying his powers with out being so blatant. And there is no going back to Changling, that sounds even less degrading than "boy" |

Eh, yeah they can. They've been doing it forever. For most of Marv's run Gar was referred to as Changeling, which is the lamest, blandest name I've heard this side of Vibe. Eventually, the Changeling name was dropped and he reverted back to Beast Boy, age be damned. The "Boy" part's only a big deal if we make it one; the only reason it's an issue is because some fans throw tantrums at the fact he has Boy in his name, whereas it can simple be a descriptor and not an indication of age. Besides which, Gar is now recognizable in the popular lexicon as Beast Boy, thanks to the show. It isn't going to change now, short of a drastic overhaul like the switch of Robin to Nightwing. It's not really needed either.
If I had some manner of control over it, I'd float about the name Beastmaster. Even if it didn't end up the codename used, it would be a great setup for a few jokes/references, like to the 80's cult fantasy film of the same name. Not to mention it sounds relatively decent.
It's also difficult to pronounce, difficult to remember the spelling for and a hassle to keep straight amidst seven other characters at a given time. There's a reason a lot of codenames are simple. For the writers benefit. Nobody's going to want to write Managerie because all they'll see is a potential headache. Hell, Stan Lee gave every character he created to same first and last initials just to make it easier for him to remember the ridiculous amount of characters he came up with. |
