Same here, I just dubbed it "creepy stalker scene" cause that seems to be the majority of what some of us where thinking on first sight.
Honestly, I think it's kinda sweet. Though I'd prefer it if Gar was watching over her as a cat instead of a bird.

*sigh* I guess I'm the only one who didn't get a creepy vibe.

Alright, look--they're not dating. They're not a couple. Even if they are--its still a creepy thing to do.

I would never go into my girlfriend's room, and sit there staring at her as they sleep--how is this not a little creepy?

You know when that's romantic? When they're living together or married and sharing a room. Or if she had invited him in there and fell asleep while they were watching movies. Otherwise... it looks like he snuck into her room and started staring at her. Even thought they're broken up. Come on! If a friend told me he did that, I'd punch him.

And then his response to her question of how long he had been there: "... little while..."; obviously insinuating he's been there for a while.

Okay, let's get some women in here--is this really romantic? For you ex to stare at you while you sleep?

Let's not get blinded with our ship either--I'm not saying this is bad, I am happy her reaction was positive at the very least. but even if everything goes well after this and its all okay... I'd prefer to pretend this scene never happened.

You really want to know what's got me a little sickened at this little scene?

You REALLY want to know what its reminding of?

Are you sure?

This scene... the woman sleeping and the guy who loves her from afar watching her sleep...

Edward and Bella... Twilight! :urgh:

Yes that's right, that's the vibe I'm getting.

No, really, I mean that--if Felicia meant this to be actually romantic, then its romantic in the way Stephanie Meyer writes romance--that somehow a guy watching you from afar obsessively wanting to be with you is somehow... romantic, and not insane.

I mean, why not, Twilight is popular. What if she's emulating it, what if Beast Boy and Raven are being set up like that to capitalize (somehow) on the popularity of Edward and Bella? What if Felicia is a Twilight fan and is injecting it into the comic? Why not, Felicia is new to the business, might seem like a good idea to her?

I mean, Raven fits the bill a little, doesn't she? Introverted quiet girl who wants to love someone... has the Gothic and creature of the night theme built into her character, too. Gar certainly has been acting a bit too angsty lately, what if he is a bit like Edward.

What if Beast Boy and raven will become DC's Edward and Bella--OH GOD, I JUST THREW UP A LITTLE. Ohhhhh... feeling sick...

But yeah... if you think this is romantic, I'm sure you'll enjoy Twilight.

If Beast Boy calls Raven his own personal heroine, there won't be a DC Comics when you wake up the next day.

I said nothing of the sort.

Forget it. Fine. I'm sick of being optimistic.

Oh, you just take my words too personally. Or seriously. Whichever.

Regardless, this scene doesn't inspire confidence, nor has Felicia's depiction of Gar to this point.

I don't think this is in any way a matter of optimism or pessimism. Its just... a guessing game right now. We've no way to know where what will go where--all the cards are on the table. We just have to be honest with ourselves on how this could end up.

And I'm not pretending to know where even this issue is going to head--by the end of it, everything could make sense and all will be right with the world, and Gar and Raven will be on a date together the very next issue. But its just a crap shoot right now--we don't even know yet when this all takes place.

See, you make a good point about the time line--Bart's absence and the tower's destruction does seem to imply that these issues are still prior to blackest Night.

But at the same time--when does Bart come on? Superboy is joining next issue, there's no mention up to June of Bart yet, and the search for Raven storyline probably starts right after the Superboy issue. But that begs the question--where's the window? When would this become a post-BN series? It doesn't look like it'd be there yet up until June or July, and that makes me think we really are post-BN despite the glaringly obvious plot holes.

This series is just becoming a mess.

And that's more my point. We can't even figure out yet if this is supposed to be romantic, creepy, a mix of both, or just bad writing. The whole franchise is just a mess right now. We need some kind of new anchor, a new jumping on point.

hell, we need Beast Boy and Raven to TALK TO EACH OTHER SO WE CAN KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS EVEN GOING ON WITH THEM!

You know, as much as I hate waiting and guessing, I'm actually glad we haven't had much going on between Gar and Raven. With how Henderson is handeling everything I don't want her to put too much into their relationship cannon until she gets a better grasp of their characters (and comics in general)

As for the creepiness and how long Gar was waiting there. I don't think he was there very long at all.

First off, his thought while watching her is "... so beautiful" This is an incomplete thought, which means that it most like didn't have much thought behind it. Had he been sitting ther for 5 min or more, he would have had more time to think about her beauty and his thought would have been more ellaborate and involved.

I think he came into her room with some mission in mind (maybe just to wake her up because he knows she likes being up early, maybe he had a horrible dream about her and needed reassurance that she was okay, maybe he had had enough and just neede to confront her with his feelings) Whatever the reason tho, when he got there he saw her and became instantly (tho briefly) distracted.

As for his response to being asked how long he was there. Well, if what he had come into the room to do or tell her was important enough, then even after being interupted, a good portion of his focus would still be on his original mission. A befuddled, lame excuse is expected if he was still preoccupied with his original motive.

I wouldn't say this scene is exactly romantic. Maybe romance interuppted, but certainly not creepy. You should remember, that this may seem like unusual behavior for ex's, but they are also teammates and room mates

If a friend of mine snuck into my room to watch me sleep, I'd be very creeped. If it was an ex, I'd still be creeped because I broke off my relation to him and no longer have any romantic feelings for him. However, if I maintained my feelings for him even after breaking up with him...I suppose it could then vary. It all depends on how strongly I feel for him, whether I'm close to him or even just general morals.

Personally, I'd be a bit creeped.

Maybe we're looking a bit too much into it. Felicia was perhaps trying to create a 'cute' moment but just didn't exactly think it thoroughly through.

On another forum, someone mentioned that there was a similar bed room scene in an episode of Gossip Girl. I've got no idea what episode or what transpired, but I would point out that Felicia Henderson wrote for that show and perhaps she wrote that episode as well. If all of that is true, then perhaps this is just Ms. Henderson's idea of romance, as tragic as that might seem.

Still, I'd have preferred it if Gar had taken his watch outside her window.

My LCS only got half their shipment today, Teen Titans wasn't in the part they did get. So I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow or perhaps this weekend to pick it up.

Sad to say, but I'd take it if it meant Twilight levels of popularity for them.

Love that show. My second favorite crime show on TV now.

Need to remember that link now.

I like that show, though I tend to find that it's quality depends largely on whether or not David Caruso decided to overact any given episode.

Woah woah woah--think about what you're saying for a moment here.

Look, I love BB/Rae, but we have to have some sense of quality here. A relationship at any cost isn't much of a victory. If all their relationship does is reduce them to emotional globs of angst, will we really have won?

I wanted this relationship because I thought it would be best for both characters, enhance them personally. They fit together well and make up for each others faults, and act as emotional bedrock for each other.

Yes, I expect drama, but the problem is if that's all it ever becomes. They need to be happy from time to time to, and the relationship can't get in the way of that--they need to be able to function even if the other is in danger.

And that's what has got me a little worried about the upcoming kidnapping of Raven--how is Gar going to react? Are the Titans going to have to smack him to come to his senses? Is he going to endanger them just to get to her? Is he going to pull a Peter Parker, and make a deal with some evil force just to save her?

We need to have some sense of quality here.

One of the major reasons why long standing relationships fall apart in comics is because the two characters cease to function without each other.

Just look at Scott Summers/Jean Grey or Peter Parker/Mary Jane--it became a trend for their relationships (particularly the main characters) to be in a constant state of angst over their relationship. That sucked the fun out of it over time, and eventually undid the relationship from within. It didn't matter if the real problem was with the writer's and not the characters/relationships themselves, the comic community just lost interest in something that become a detriment to both characters.

We should want more than a relationship at any cost.

It was a reference to a joke DL made on another board.

David Caruso overacting is just about the best thing on that show. I mean, he can even put Shatner to shame!

But I'm still a bigger NCIS fan.

Re: "Twilight" junk

Somehow, I knew that would get your goat, Plisskin. ;)

I don't think it would ever get to the treacle levels of Twilight, for the simple reason that the whole TW franchise is the product of one slightly deranged author, whereas Gar & Rae are still the corporate property of Warner Brothers and will always have multiple writers & editors (each with their own ideas) attached to them. However, from a practical point of view, if DC ever wanted to try to specifically appeal to that kind of demographic, Gar & Rae are probably their best shot short of creating two new characters out of thin air. Heck, the BB/R fanbase is already more than halfway at Twilight levels of saccharine, if the fanart on DevArt is any indication.

Do it as a CLAMP style Shojo manga (action-adventure mixed with romance), and I think you could have something that'd appeal to a wide range of readers. Do it that way and still keep the characters consistent, and I think you've the best of all possible worlds. It would all have to depend on how its executed.
