Surprise us, eh. Three months ago, maybe. And didn't add "new era in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA" in the solicit, then I'd be surprised. Still, that "closes this chapter in the life of the classic Titans team" line kinda tugs at my heartstrings a bit. I mean, I am psyched that their in the JLA and Slade leadin this team, but some of me still wants things as it was. That, and it's gonna be kinda hard to call it Titans when the new team is a bunch of gray characters lead by the Terminator. Titans or not, I'm startin to think Deathstroke's team should be going under a new name. |

Yeah, I agree. I think its a shame that the book is being retooled simply because Winnick failed; I still wish we had gotten that original concept--an old titans reunion book focused on their enduring friendship. Instead we got... whatever the hell that was. Its still too early to judge what this book will be like. At the very least, the Titans aren't going into limbo--they're stepping up to the Big Leagues. I just hope there's more to the title, because thus far it just sounds like a new roster for Secret Six rather than its own book--in which case, why not retool Secret Six with Deathstroke and pals? But the mention of General Lane at least answers why the Titans would even allow Deathstroke to use the name of their team, let alone run around free in their tower. That also makes me think, though, that this book could end up being tied deeply into the events of next year--the war with new Krypton. And what happens after New Krypton--will the Titans reclaim the name and the Tower? Or will the book end? I hope they reclaim it--having a book called Titans featuring a dickish (not the original) Deathstroke and few if any other Titans-related characters... feels wrong. The name of a team and a book usually carries a theme with it--you wouldn't want to see the Justice Society run by Lex Luthor and a cast of other villains for more than a major arc/event. The team name usually stands for something; I hope they don't lose sight of that. |

Ah, Plissken. It was 5 paragraphs; the perfect length. ![]() I'm just kidding with you. Actually I agree with you completely. It's really odd considering the idea of a shady team lead by Deathstroke called Titans. As for the specifics, I still have some catching up to do before I call anyone out on plotlines. All I can hope for at this point is a good story with a good ending. |

You want the book to be crappy? =/ Yeah, I know that's not what you meant, but honestly, the books been floundering ever since the first three issues bombed and friction started with Winick. They couldn't seem to get a good direction in place for the title or someone to truly fill in on it. It had no real purpose anymore. In the state it's been, it wasn't going to last forever barring a major turnaround in quality and readership. If the book went under with the previous setup, everyone goes to limbo. I'd rather it be retooled like it is rather than try to force the book on the path it had been going straight onto the chopping block.
Because that would absolutely piss off the books fans for very good reason. It's one of DC's best low profile books right now and Gail is obviously having fun with it. Mucking up what works doesn't seem like a good plan.
I'm honestly over the "feels wrong" stage, myself. For some, Dick taking on the mantle of the Bat in Bruces stead "felt wrong", since he'd tried so hard to be his own man. The point of the example is that it depends largely on the story and quite a few changes will feel wrong irregardless. But if the book is good, well then right on; point is that we don't know yet and aside from the two guaranteed members and an inkling of how the team is upended we don't know squat. I'd rather they didn't reclaim it, honestly. Half the team is moving up to the League. I'd prefer the umbilical were cut for a few years before they interact heavily with the Titans again. It's going to be hard for average joe reader to take Cyborg and Starfire seriously as Leaguers if they're still heavily tied to the Titans at any given time. And I've been waiting a damn long time for Vic to be a Leaguer. |

Right now, I think this whole thing is just set-up for War with New Krypton--literally, I think this entire book's premise and goal right now is to be a lead up to that event. I wouldn't get too attached to the coming roster, because I think it might be temporary, though that'll depend a lot on critical reception to the book, as well as what happens with the JLA in the future and whether or not the Fab Four stay on. That's why I'm wondering what will happen afterward--this doesn't feel permanent to me, so either I can see the book ending, or returning to its original premise once that storyline come to its close. Guess we'll see. It'll be another year-and-a-half or two before we know anything for certain. |

Ok, so I was at my local comic book store Picking up the final issue of S.W.O.R.D. (man, that story arc really picked up after with #3 and it ended in a near perfect introductory story arc, alas...) Well while I was there, I saw this book and desided to speed through it for free. Anyway, this issue is either cause for hope for our cause, or further proof of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing in the titans book. In short, it brought into question the timeline underwhich everything in the Teen Titans book is occuring. During this issue, Cyborg visits the Teen Titans on Heroes' Day and they all meet in the Hall of Fallen Titans. It is the very same scene at the begining of the Titans Blackest Night mini. Actually it takes place just before, as Hawk is still alive and the tower still intact. So, why is this hope? Well the vast majority of this scene is Beast Boy welcoming Cyborg to the island as "West coast leader to east coast leader" Throughout the whole scene, Gar is confident collected and exactly as we saw him since his one-shot. Also Vic makes the comment of Gar "Having been team leader for a couple of weeks" There are three things that make me feel that this is hinting to a lapse in time (after which Gar will be leader) and not too many writers not talking with eachother. 1) Vic telling us that Gar has been the leader "for a few weeks": Now it's still foggy, but the four issue that Felicia has written so far don't seem like they could have spanned much more than a week or so, more like three or four days. This means that things could go in a different direction soon (perhaps after Gar pulls them out of this recent crisis) 2) The fact that there has been no mention what-so-ever of Blackest Night amongst any of the characters in the past four issues (excluding the tie-in which has nothing to do with the main story) This makes me think that everything we are reading in the teen book is happening before the mini (like this issue would suggest) 3) The presence and absence of Bart: Ok so in the mini, we had Bart back with all the team, but there wasn't any big deal over him being around. This implies that he has been around for a while and everyone has had time to move onto a new subject. Also (and correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not positive about it) but to my knowledge, Bart hasn't had any contact with the majority of the Titans since his return. And if he did come back to the team, why would he leave and then rejoin again as he will in the next few issues. even more reason why I limagine Bart first rejoins the team (in the next two issues) then stays on until BN strikes. So if all of this is hope that Gar will be given a break and get a chance to be an awesome leader, what else could it mean? Well, some bad news for one. Now it doesn't really mean anything, But during the BN mini (and this brief pre-scene) Raven is nowhere to be seen or mentioned. There could be no end to reasons why Raven wasn't around, but one reason is that maybe between now and then, she leaves the team (for one reason or another) However, Conner is also nowhere to be seen and it appears he will be on the team (or maybe he won't) Either way, I am excited to see if Gar will in fact turn things around and claim his rightful place as team leader. |

All this is certainly possible. Teen Titans has seemed to exist in this really weird space of time where we're not even remotely sure when it's supposed to take place. I suppose time will tell. On Raven being absent though, I wouldn't worry. It wasn't surprising Raven wasn't in the Blackest Night tie-in largely because there was nothing that necessitated her presence. She was there at the gathering though; from what I hear, she was with the other Titans in the first issue of Blackest Night. One can assume that she left afterwords, while our principle cast in that mini hadn't really left at the time. |

Ok, I didn't know that. I haven't read any of the blackest night stuff other than the Titans mini. Anyway, it's nice to think that BB may come around and land the leadership spot. However, Felicia will have to undo alot of character desstruction to make it convincing. |
