Hmmm, looks like Black Mask and the rest of Arkham moved their gang war over to Dakota. XP

Well, not really a bad plan, actually. No one wearing a Bat symbol on their chest, after all. Probably work out pretty good for them.

Well. That's a cover that most certainly does not bode well.

I'm kinda lost here... what exactly happened to Dakota? Are the Arkham criminals really causing havoc there, or is it another Darkseid's doing? Having not read any of Static's related comics kinda get me confused with the whole Dakota thing.

From what I can vaguely recall, after Darkseid's death, something about the space time continuum, I think it went whacko and...did something.

As I said, I vaguely recall.

I'll have to look into it. I could be wrong. Perhaps someone else can better explain.

Ghetto and I are just joking about the Arkham villains guys, no worries.

We don't really know what happened to Dakota. The Milestone characters have only just started as a part of the DC Universe. The JLA arc they were introduced in is the only place they've been so far. This is probably going to be one of our first looks at Dakota.

Also, I wouldn't worry much about the cover itself. We know how these things go. Dakota likely isn't going to be half destroyed in the actual issue. It just looks pretty dynamic on the cover.

There's something about centaur Gar that just cracked me up.

Once again, Gar abilities are most likely gonna be called into question.

Well, Centaurs are part of the fabric of DCU ecology. They do exist.

Though now it again brings up questions about Gar's abilities--Centaurs are, far as I know, rational beings even in the DCU. Don't know if they're magical--i.e., they could just be a species that almost died out in the DCU rather than some mystical only being. But not being able to morph into a rational being was always a self-imposed limit on the character--stick with animals.

Hm... dunno.

I mean, in all honestly, they need to move forward at some point. I mean--Tamaranians, Martians, Krytponians--they're all things that could be accessible to his abilities some day.

Maybe they'll move forward with his abilities, or maybe this was just visual eye candy. I'll opt for the later unless we see them start to push Gar as a power player in the DCU.

I also dislike Raven's skin color in this one. I see they're going for the pale look--ick.

Though it could just be this colorist, since previous issues had her with a more skin tone.

It could also be because Lorena and Raven look really similar in this art style.

EDIT:

You know you can tell Felicia still has a lot to learn--anyone else confused over the timing and setting of the preview?

From the lead-in last issue, they were about to argue--guess we don't know what happened there.

So this issue starts with Cassie talking with Vic in New York, I assume at night. Then its, I assume, the next morning, back in California.

Virgil comes in, says he's got to go.

And poof there we are back in Dakota... at night... and I guess he got there a while ago since he's relaxed and not rushing in the door. Except his sister asks him "What are you doing here"--did he just go in the kitchen and sit down without her knowing?

Then back again to Titans Tower... the next morning? That same day after Virgil left? I guess it has to be the next morning, based on the chronology. And only now are we seeing them discuss following after Virgil.

Then back to Dakota, I assume that same morning, except that's Virgil first meeting his parents, so what did he do the rest of the night before, or was it just early in the morning and the sun wasn't up yet?

And then back to Titans Tower again.

What'd we go through like two or three days in the course of a few pages?

I think we might be dealing with a new issue with the new writer, and that's simply pacing and timing. I get confused at times by the flow of this thing. Hopefully the editor recognize this and are working with her on it, because that could be a big enough problem in the long run that will ruin the reception of her issues despite how good they may get.

Still hoping she isn't going to be doing this Beast Boy versus Wonder Girl for leadership thing.

But didn't they just established that Cassie is still the leader after they discuss about following after Virgil?????

I'm bettin that's the cause in Raven's skin tone. Hell, just take away her chakra and Raven and Lorena would look like they've been separated from birth.

Personally, I was wonderin if they'd take another shot at gray skinned Raven.

I believe they are manifest of magic, But I'm not really sure. I know that Comet the Super horse was originally a centaur from centuries ago, so maybe they are supposed to be an ancient natural species. Still think their origin comes from the gods tho...

Woah! Hold on with that "rational" word. In real life we are learning that animals have far greater reasoning skills than we ever knew. Often times the only obstacle is finding out how to properly communicate with them to truely prove their rationality.

Now, if you care to not believe that, fair enough. However in the DC universe there are countless examples of animals being just as rational as any other character. All the super-pets for example would think in perfectly structured scentences. And Beast Boy has always been able to transform into Gorillas, yet all the inhabitants of Gorilla city are naturally civilized even though they don't genetically differ from other silver backs. Also, Giganta was originally a chimp and was cognizant then. And of course let's not for get all the animals that Aqua Man and Bwanna Beast have communicated with over the years.

I don't think the issue is reasoning, as it is really a moot point in the world of comics.

However, everyone knows my opinions on Gar transforming into anything other than a natural animal so I won't repeat myself. I would like to site however that in the Beast Boy miniseries Gemini stated that Beast Boy could only become true animals while she cuold transform into anything.

I know that BB's powers have changed alot over the year. Hell originally he would turn into naturally colored animals but would always retain a gree, human head. However, for the greater part of the past 2 decades his powers have always been limited to natural animals (which other than their color are exactly as they appear in nature) And I really wish it would remain that way because it's the only things that sets BB apart from every other Shapeshifter.

I mean if he's going to have all these freedoms on morphing, then why does M'gann need to be on the team. Especially with Raven being around to be the team impath.

Wow, maybe they are trying to write M'gann out. Really hope not...

The more the merrier, as they say.
Don't forget M'gann's got flight, superhuman strength, invisibility, intangibility, and some kinda optic force blasts. And most of those powers kinda lie inside the other Titans.

As regards towards Gar powers, I'm a bit skeptical. Half of me agrees with King and keep the transformations towards "natural" animals, and since this is DC universe, where magical/E.T. critters coincide, that goes for them too. Yet the other half of me wants to see what kinda "monster" are inside of Gar's head.
