Written by James Robinson; Art and cover by Mark Bagley; Variant cover by Andy Kubert

A new era begins for the World's Greatest Heroes as superstars James Robinson (STARMAN, SUPERMAN) and Mark Bagley (TRINITY, Ultimate Spider-Man) take over! It all begins as a one-time member of the JLA falls before he can warn the team of looming peril while what's left of the JLA journeys to the heart of their past to decide if the team has any future at all.

Of course, that means this is the best time for a savage villain from the team's past to attack the demoralized heroes! The team will have to muster enough will to win not only today, but in the harrowing months to come. It's the start of a spanking new odyssey for the JLA that will lead in the coming months to a fresh line-up for DC's flagship team. Get onboard now for the next epic chapter of the Justice League's legacy!

DC Universe | 32pg. | Color | $2.99 US

On Sale October 21, 2009

**********

As you may or may not know, James Robinson is taking over the League and he's bringing several Titans with him. Donna Troy, Dick Grayson, Starfire and Cyborg are joining the League with James Robinsons run. This is Robinsons first issue with the title.

Aww yeah, Titans!

Some early stuff on the new Justice League. First up, the variant cover for this issue. It's just pencils inked though; not colored yet.
Spoiler: click to toggle

We've also got an early preview of this issue of Justice League, which is James Robinsons first.

I noticed Doctor Light mentions her work. I wonder if this means she'll merely be a part timer? Actually, that's interesting to think about; I never gave thought to whether any of the new League we know of so far are going to be part timers.

Hey, it's always worked for Batman.

Plastic Man no! What will we do without hilarious antics! Don't die on us now! We're already gloomy enough in the comics arena already!

Plas will probably survive. I don't see him being killed off. I'm a little disappointed he won't be on the new League - at least that's how it looks - but I'm not worried.

Not a good time to have Despero crash your headquarters.

Yeah, that had to hurt something fierce. Usually Plastic Man wouldn't be torn apart that easily. But the dialogue suggests these four just got whupped and had their powers turned off in battle, so Plas got jacked.

Looking forward to all of this. Preview's not dynamite or anything, but it's good enough for me to think Justice League of America will be an enjoyable read at the very least.

Hmm.

I had the chance to buy a JLA trade today, but I didn't. Figured I should consult the expert I know first. XD Sad thing is, I can't remember the trade's title...so I can't ask about it... Dang.

Anyway, you wait for trades, right Dl? So how do you keep up with the events if you don't buy the issues? Besides the internet. Unless that's all... At least, I remember you mentioning being a trade waiter...

I'm...so tired... :urgh:

Aaaaaand to keep this a little on topic, Lyne gives a big OUCH to Plastic Man there. And another big question mark concerning who all those people are! :awesome:

Umm, there is no "besides the internet" for me, so that's kind of impossible to answer. XD

I've not problem with being spoiled, so I keep up with the events that happen and pick and choose from there. Also, I check out trade reviews. It helps me decide based on general impressions of the stories and what I know happens.

There are certainly Justice League stories worth reading, so if you want recommendations I can certainly give them.

Don't feel bad about that. This isn't exactly the most recognizable Justice Leaguers around.

Vixen is the black lady with the broken leg encased in metal.

Doctor Light is... well, it should be pretty easy to figure out who Doctor Light is. XD

Red Tornado is... the red guy! XDDDDD

And then there's Plastic Man.

Despero is a longtime League villain though, so he's arguably the most recognizable part of this preview. So again, don't feel bad about not knowing anybody here.

...Oh. Well, I figured that anyway. But never hurts to ask. XD

I would certainly appreciate that! There's nothing worse then buying a book, any kind of book, and then having it fall flat on it's face because it wasn't as good as you'd hoped. I hate that. XP And just for that, I would have to agree that being spoiled doesn't sound so bad, considering that you want to know what you're buying. I'd have to agree with you there.

Meh, I at least knew of two of them. Vixen and Dr. Light. XD

The JLA title has been of pretty good quality for the majority of it's life. There are nineteen volumes of it and three quarters of the whole are quite good. I'm about to list all of the JLA era trades worth reading.

Grant Morrison JLA stories:

JLA 1: New World Order
JLA 2: American Dreams
JLA 3: Rock of Ages
JLA 4: Strength in Numbers
JLA 5: Justice For All
JLA 6: World War III
JLA: One Million
JLA: Earth 2
JLA: Ultramarine Corps (takes place much later, I'd suggest after Trial by Fire, but I'm placing it with the rest of Grants work with the team)

Mark Waid run:

JLA: Midsummers Nightmare (shows the team Morrison uses join up, so before volume 1 but being placed here)
JLA 7: Tower of Babel
JLA 8: Divided We Fall
JLA 9: Terror Incognita

Joe Kelly run:

JLA 10: Golden Perfect
JLA 11: Obsidian Age 1
JLA 12: Obsidian Age 2
JLA 13: Rules of Engagement
JLA 14: Trial by Fire

Geoff Johns works:

JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice
JLA 18: Crisis of Conscience.

After Infinite Crisis there began a new Justice League of America title. You might want to look around to see if it's up to your liking though. Ones that may be of note so far (pre-James Robinson, of course):

Justice League of America: The Tornado's Path
Justice League of America/Justice Society of America: The Lightning Saga
Justice League of America: The Second Coming
Justice League of America: When Worlds Collide

Those are just the two modern era's of the League. there are others. Before Grant launched JLA, there was Justice League International, which was kind of like a humorous, superhero sitcom. It's well loved, so it might be worth checking out.

Thanks. I try. ^^

I think you'll enjoy the Justice League stories of note. They're often fun. If not completely awesome.

The issue released yesterday.

Not a lot happened, which was to be expected. We're still in a transitionary phase. The new era really begins in issue #41. This issue was more to lead into the Blackest Night tie-in issues next month and in December.
