Hayao Miyazaki has done it again.

It's basically "The Little Mermaid," Miyazaki-style. This one centers around a baby fish, or mermaid whatever, named Ponyo who wants to become a human girl. In pursuing her goal, she befriends a five-year-old human boy, Sosuke.

As you know me, I can't pass out a Miyazaki film, no matter how wacked out it is. Even I got rilled up for Howl's Moving Castle, even though it wasn't worth the watch. Even so, you can bet I'm psyhed for this.

I'm SO seeing this! It looks just adorable!

Along with PIXAR, Studio Ghibli is pretty much the only real pillar of support for Disney that has anything worth watching. So I'm sure that this will do well.

Ponyo looks so cute. . . <3

So it's a Walt Disney Pictures movie about a kid named Sasuke (er uh, I mean Sosuke  ) who is a little chubby kid who lives like a fish that features some amazing animation, great music and is directed by the dude who made Spirited Away?

Walt Disney, you can rest at ease in Heaven knowing that there are some people who believe Disney is a lot more than just a bunch of crappy sitcoms, stupid CGI talking dogs and Hannah Montana.

Close, but NO. The kids name is Ponyo, and she is a FISH....thing who wants to become human.

As for Disney, I'm pretty sure that Disney has more crap headin our way. Hell, they've made a movie about secret agent "guinea pigs", and I hear somewhere there's a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 in the works.
This seems more of a sign that they're reaching out to smarter writters along the way. Does these mean I've given up on Disney........No. If they're reaching out to Hayao Miyazaki, the Walt Disney of Japan, and bought Pixar, then there can some people who know where to steer this ship.

Eh, I've never really paid attention to this guys movies. Just seemed too weird for me and not in the Grant Morrison "OMFG THAT IS SO ASININE IT'S BRILLIANT" sort of way but more along the lines of the eyebrow raising sort where you're just like "ooookaaaaay".

Hey, don't knock PoC man. Now that the dead weight will be gone (IE Elizabeth and Will), things should be much better.

Did I just hear Liam Neeson in that trailer?

OH HELL YES.

...*reads the cast list on Wikipedia*

Oh, ***** YOU Disney, just ***** YOU STRAIGHT UP THE ASS. Miley Cyrus' kid sister and Frankie Jonas in the starring roles? I'm sure that was totally coincidental. *eyeroll*

Seriously, this is ******* Disney neopotism at its finest. Plugging two of their stars (or soon-to-be stars, if Noah Cyrus' sorority ties is any indicator) in an upcoming movie that you just know is going to be great. Oh, but I'm sure that they auditioned just like everybody else and were given the roles because they were just the CREAM of the voice acting crop.

*sighs* I'm going to make myself a sandwich...

WHAT? LIAM NEESON? WHERE? @____@

Aww, dammit. Now I'm probably going to end up seeing this even if I'm not too interested. I'm an easy mark for Liam Neeson stuff.

**** those other two al. Liam Neeson has more than enough awesome to cancel out any fail in the casting.

If I don't know who they play, then hopefully, I can judge their performance free from any hate that I have for the Disney-Channel stuff. Just don't look at the cast list between now and when it comes out. . . Thats right. . . who knows. . . they might be bad on camera, but good in general voice acting. . . Just don't know who they play. . .

I swear, you people are so damn negative, that it's taking me way more than it should be taking to have faith in stuff like this. XP

You forget who you're talking to. I'm pretty much almost negative a lot of the time. :P

It's not so much that I think they're bad--Noah Cyrus could be the next Dakota Fanning for all I know--it's that Disney cast their own stars in the lead roles, instead of other, more established veteran VAs. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, young, unknown, up-and-coming VAs.

Now, Noah Cyrus does fall at the latter end of the spectrum, but her heritage is more than enough to raise some eyebrows. Frankie Jonas, even more so. Like I said, Disney neopotism; they weren't cast because they were the best out of all the people who auditioned, they were cast because they have a connection to Disney.

I don't think you'll 100% know that until you see it. Maybe they were the best that auditioned, so for the sake of optimism, please just give them the benefit of the doubt.

What is this "optimism" that you speak of?
