With less then a week away I'm going to be trying to bring you guys as much info on the upcoming releases and what not. Already we have some news, big news. Bethseda has a new game coming out called Brink, it seems to be more sci-fi based. But other then that, no other information. We got some footage of Marvel Wultimate Alliance 2, Venom, Goblin and it appears Songbird on in the game. I'm thinking Thunderbolts option if you catch my drift. Biggest news by far though, Mass Effect 2, Shepard is not dead... but apparently a good number of people think he is. Hmm, the plot thickens. Also, from what I got from the trailer it looks like Tali is back, the fan favourite Quarian companion which many players were dissapointed to learn wasn't a romance option last go around. Doubtful she is now, but its good to know she's back. She and Wrex were my favourite characters. I also saw new footage of PS3 exclusive content that allows you to play the Joker. Looks sweet. And a clip of Brutal Legend's cinematics... but they didn't go too deep into it. I figure we'll have to wait till the actual show to find out more about all these games, but its an interesting tidbit for now. So, whats everyone's expectations for the showings? Are you like me and hoping Nintendo doesn't screw up this year? Which games are you looking forward to most? Any theories on what Microsoft is keeping so hush hush about? Go ahead, disscuss guys. |

I, like you, am very much hoping Nintendo does not screw up (or screw us over) this year again and that they actually bring out some legitmately new, or at least innovative product that's not the usual "stick the Nintendo seal on it and call it awesome" routine. However, much more than that, I don't have enough info/experience to really have a decent opinion. This might be a really stupid question, but where are you getting all your info, Lizard-Man? |

Don't get your hopes up. There probably won't be much in the way of blockbuster Wii announcements. A new Mario title maybe, if rumors are to be believed and maybe a new Zelda, but with third party support dropping all the time it's going to fall to Nintendo to make their own buzz. Considering their focus lately, I doubt highly they'll do it. Meanwhile, people in general are waking up to the Wii's bull. More and more it's being seen as a Novelty. Took long enough.
It better be a 360 redesign that isn't a pile of garbage; I'm about ready to punch someone in the face over the damn system. |

The internets and the actual conferences of course. Where else? Okay, the Microsoft just finished their conference, time to tell you guys what happened. They started off by announcing Beatles Rockband, a nice cinematic and trailer. Octopus Garden played, brought back memories of the muppets as thats where I heard it first. Ringo and Paul were there, they obviously had no idea what games were about but they did seem enthusiastic about them being in a game. Nice announcement, but even better was the news they weren't going to go around boasting about their success with graphs and crap, straight to the games and man there were a lot of games. Tony Hawk showed off the skateboard controller for his new game tony Hawk Ride. Cool I'll admit, but not really much interest to me. Still it looks like its fun, maybe this will re-egnite the franchise? Modern Warfare 2 gameplay was on hand, man was it sweet. They showed the characters, including Soap McTavish who apparently is the leader character now that you're following. You and him were climbing up this steap icy slope with picks. Man did it look cool and it looked like you were in total control as well. Very cinematic. They showed off this new gun that apparently has a radar sensor, like the one from Aliens, that senses movement. It was pretty sweet looking. Then the snowmobiles came in and things went nuts. The demo ended when they showcased this fast paced chase sequence on the snowmobiles. That was epic, must play game now! They then showcased Final Fantasy 13, looks like they've gotten rid of the cliche of "Take a swing and walk back" stuff as you can preform multiple attacks during your turn and the enemy can attack as well, if of course the timer runs out. Its coming out in spring. epic Games had this Xbox Live Arcade shooter to showcase. Its a sidescroller, looks pretty cool. Its called Shadow Complex. Unfortunately there was mic problems so I couldn't hear much, but it was a pretty classic looking sidescroller. Its out this summer. There were more trailers for Crackdown 2 and Left for Dead 2 along with a demo of Splinter Cell Conviction. They have this new system in it called Execute that allows the player to perform cinematic action takedowns with the click of a button. Wanna shoot out a light and then a guy when you open a door? doable, Wanna kill two guys as you enter a window? Doable. Kill three men while you're hanging upside down, doable. Looked like a lot of fun, and best of all it displays your objectives in a very creative way, inside the game world as you move forward. Very cinematic looking, I liked the feel of it. Forza 3 was announced, the guy doing it had a cool beard. Didn't particularly care. Halo ODST was up next and it looked awesome. Apparently you'll be jumping into different characters over the course of the story and they even brought back the pistol with the scope. Sweet. I think I'll enjoy playing it. However, Bungie also announced a new game, Halo Reach! A Prequel to the first game? The fall of Reach? The battle that was the cause of the first game? Count me in! Then there was Alan Wake, a game thats been in the works for awhile. Now its coming out. Finally! Good news is, it looks sweet. You apparently use light as a main weapon against the enemies and it looks very intuitive. I wanna play this game, it has a very original concept and want to find out whats happening in this town. Light as a weapon should make for some creative gameplay. They went to announce a few special offers, some new ways to download, ways to share content, but then they announced, Al is going to love this... maybe not, Metal Gear Solid: Rising on the Xbox. Its apparently starring Raiden, mixed feelings about that. Next they had the fabled motion controller, but it wasn't what we expected. Its a project called Natal, its a sensory system that removes the need for a controller. It senses your movement, your body, your actions and apparently duplicates them on screen. Essentially you become the controller and you're interacting with the game world. They showed a bit of it on stage. It actually seems to work. They played this game where you break bricks with balls where the player only needed to move their arms, legs, head and body to hit stuff. No need for a controller and they even made a knock at nintendo's wii controller. Ouch. They had Peter Molyneux supposedly show us what they can do with the technology by showing a video where a woman interacted with a virtual boy named Milo. It did look like an interactive and immersive expierence, as if you and Milo were sharing the same space even though he's not real. But I'm skeptical as to whether or not it was staged. They say that a select group of people wil lget to play and see for themselves that its not fake at all. But again, I'll wait to see. All in all, a much better improvement over last year. More games, more stuff, big announcements. Can't wait to play these games in the fall and spring next year. |

But Al that was the announcement, obviously. That was the game Kojima was going to reveal. Its obvious. ------------------------------------------------- Well enough of that for now. EA's conference, now that was pretty cool. Dante's Inferno opened it up with a sweet trailer. Still waiting on game footage though, more then likely to come up in tyhe next few days. The conference then had a whiplash mood. First they show a game about a guy battling demons in hell, the next thing we know we get news on the Sims 3 game coming out tomorrow and a bunch of girl games. May I just say that said Girl games were probably the most sexist things I've seen? They weren't games, they were simulators of... well... stereotypical girl fantasies. Shopping, prom, sleepovers, right because girls don't think of ANYTHING else besides those things. Ugh, low point of the conference right there. Whatever, they shifted gears dramatically though. I needed something manly after that crap, they gave me Need for Speed. I may not be a racer gamer, but it was good enough to redeem the conference. Continuing on our tour of utter maniliness, we had Dragon Age: Origins from Bioware. Yeah, that was pretty sweet looking. Lots of blood, a few scantily clad girls, only complaint was the angry rock music in the background. Totally jarring for me. But hey, I got confirmation there are dragons in the game and they blow crap up, good enough for me. Bioware continued onwards to show us Mass Effect 2. Commander Shepard, as previously revealed, is alive and well. But from the looks of it, the Normany isn't. The last I saw of it was it exploding as escape pods were jettisoned. Hmm, not good news for our favourite starship. On the plus side, we get a gun that fires an A-bomb! Sweet, you don't know how many times I needed a heavy weapon in the last game. As long as I can continue my relationship with Liara and Wrex is back to kick ass and talk smack I'm good. Perhaps the behind closed doors demo will reveal more information. Then EA Sports came up, I tuned out for that. Wasn't really interested. Its safe to say they're focusing on tweaking their engines, upping ther graphics and trying to make the expierence more fun. I'm sure it will be, but I wasn't interested in that part of the conference. I did see Peter Moore playing Wii Tennis though. Saboteur, a WWII action game from Pandemic studio was also shown. Now, this game is essentially a free roaming sandbox game set in Nazi-occupied Paris. The game stars an Irishman in France looking for revenge on the Nazis by any means nessecary. The game combines elements of Assassin's Creed and Mercenaries from the looks of it. You can go in stealth or guns ablazing, you can steal uniforms and sneak past guards or just bash through the gate with a stolen car. Cool. Best part however was how you allude the Nazis though. After blowing up a fuel depot, the hero drove to a red light district and jumped out into a nearby brothel. The Nazis lost him and awhile later our hero walks out, zipping up his fly. I think thats mission accomplished. Heh heh. Game looks great, graphics are pretty stylized and the color scheme of black and white that repressents oppression and color that represents resistance is pretty sweet looking. I look forward to seeing more in the coming days. Brutal Legend was there too! No demo, but it was awesome nonetheless. They showed a bit of a trailer at the conference saying a bigger one will be up tomorrow. They told us whose starring in the game. Theres apparently quite a few rock legends, Lita ford, Lenny Lenny Kilmeister are there, but Ozzy Osbourne is also in the game! Sweet! As soon as the trailer comes up I'm showing it to you guys. Seriously, buy Brutal Legend, its gonna be wicked! A massive multiplayer game called APB was announced where a person can be a crinimal or an enforcer who stops the crinimals. Looks interesting, but I'm not much of a multiplayer guy. Still looks cool. The final trailer was for Star Wars the Old Republic. This MMORPG looks like its gonna make up for Galaxies. Its full voice acted for one and they showed this epic cinematic trailer. Really cool looking, had Siths and Jedi kicking each other's asses. Glorious. Well, that was EA. Ubisoft is next. Lets see what they bring to the table. |

Although your sarcasm would indicate you got the idiocy of such a stereotype, may I enter a counter to such grouping? [rant] I, being a girl, do not ever think about uch things unless a friend brings them up and if said circumstance occurs, it is usually with the greatest of reluctance that I turn my thoughts to such matters and attempt to escape from them as quickly as possible. The exception is the sleepover, which, though fun and not unpleasant to think about, is still not something I often dwell on, due to my anti-social tendencies. [/rant] Other than that, sounds like we've got a decent likneup going here. |

Ubisoft conference was kinda boring. First 12 or so minutes were just a lot of talking. Then James Cameron showed up and talked about Avatar and that there was a demo on the floor for everyone to play. He makes me want to watch the movie at least, definetly sounds cool. Also the game is its own self contained story, no spoilers on the movie as it may be out before then. Also they've been working on it for a couple of years, mostly because Cameron doesn't want to suck. He sounds pretty satisfied with it and considering his level of quality in his work I think we can safely say thats a good thing. There was a lot of stuff in between that was really interesting. The Red Steel demo on stage was pretty cool and looked like something I'd like to play, but after that there wasn't really much. Red Steel 2 however, yeah that took advantage of this wii motion plus thing quite a bit. Nice to see the sword actually respond to movement. The action looked fluid and easy to pick up and play. After that there was this Soccer game for kids, very cartoony style, endorsed by a soccer player named Pele. Splinter Cell conviction showed up again, they explained more about the game but nothing too different. A bunch of casual games came up, didn't bother watching them. I doubt many people would care if I reported on a new edition to the Petz franchise or something involving glitter. Blech. Rabbids go home looked like a casual game that played like an actual game. There are enemies to fight and a goal for each mission. Plus, its not just a bunch of mini-game. Seemed fun. No More Heroes 2 was announced and they showed some gameplay for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fighting game. Yeah, it looked pretty fun to say the least. FINALLY, they showed Assassin's Creed 2, at least the trailer. I won't spoil anything, but it was pretty cool. Thats all you need to know. I've also located a trailer for one of my most anticipated games, Wolfenstein. Oh man, they showcased some of the Veil powers and new weapons. I'm so picking this game up. Who said killing Nazis was out of style. Well Ubisoft was the weakest of the conferences today in my opinion. A lot of talking and not enough reveals to keep me interested for long. If Assassins Creed had shown up earlier I might've just switched the TV off. I was also expecting news on some Ghost Recon game. Oh well, that Wolfenstein game cheered me up. Now theres nothing to do but wait for tomorrow and see if Sony and Nintendo can top Microsoft's conference. |

Hey, I did mention that and I said it was awesome. I'm giving letting you guys know about it. I will put up videos, but I need time is all. They don't come out on youtube fast enough. ------------------------------------------- Nintendo just finished its pressconference. I have both reasons to smile and complain equally. First lets get the crap out of the way. Cammie Dunway is still annoying as ever. She clearly doesn't get jack crap about what gamers want and is just reading her previous year's sales pitch over and over again. A pitch everyone hated the first time around. "Nintendo wants to appeal to everyone", fair enough, stop talking about it and show us your games. That was the big issue, they talked a lot and showed little. Company President Satoru Iwata came out and gues what he announced... a perifable that measures your vitality. The *****? They also showed quite a few rather boring looking casual games. Stuff I'm, never going to play. They even thought they needed to reintroduce Wii Motion Plus, again, and Wii Sports Resort, again. It was almost like a rehash of last year. But enough of the complaints, back to the good news. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced, and this time you get to ride Yoshi! YAY! I'm sold, however it looks like the same game to me. For a second I thought I was just watching old footage from the game. Well, you know what they say, it ain't broke don't fix it. Galaxy was a good game, sold a lot, I guess giving more of a winning product is good enough. Just so long as they add enough new worlds to make us interested and keep us that way. There were a lot of Third Party games they liked totalk about. Like Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicles: The crystal Bearer, a game by James Paterson "Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion" for once a game for girls that doesn't treat them like idiots. They also showcased "The Conduit" which looks like a really good shooter. I've been following it. Its about Aliens invading Washington DC and has some puzzle solving implements in it as well. Works a lot like Metroid from the looks of it. There was also Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles. A bunch of Mario games besides Galaxy were announced. New super Mario Bros. for the Wii, which sports four player co-op side scrolling gameplay. Cool. A game thats been out in Japan is coming over to America, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside story, where you apparently play as Mario, Luigi and Bowser. Mario and his brother are sucked into Bowser's body and I'm assuming they have to fight to get out. You also play as Bowser on the outside world from the looks of it. Its available for the DS and looks like fun. There was another RPG, Golden Sun DS announced. But I'm not familar with it. Anyone mind telling me what thats all about? However the show closed off with a huge announcement! Team Ninja and Nintendo have teamed up, forming Project M and their first game coming out is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut_8qkC2KUQ I think the trailer speaks for itself. But let me say this: Holy, sxkjsadfkjasdkfsdjkfhkasdfjksdfjksdfsdsk! Yeah, big improvement over last year for sure as they had an actual big announcement. Good enough for it to be better then last year, but I still wish we got more out of them. Microsoft's conference was still better, but Nintendo's didn't suck so there I have renewed faith in them. Now if they'd just get rid of Cammie. |

The Metroid trailer looks promising, as does Nintendo, with that bit of revelation. There may be hope for the company yet, but I won't be expecting too much until further proof is given. Also, regarding that Star Wars trailer: *UBER FANGIRL SCREAM* Holy smokes, that looks freakin' amazing!!! I have gotta get my hands on this game! Epic music, awesome explosions, insane combat, and what looks like could be a great storyline! What am I saying, it's Bioware, of course it'll be a great story! |

Sony finished its press conference, theres a lot to tell so let me give you the highlights. Uncharted 2 was shown first, looks incredibly action packed and definetly deserves one's attention. Why? The demo had a helicopter chasing Drake, shooting at him while enemies tried to take him out and it ended with Drake and his female accomplice leaping through a window to another building while the building they were in was collapsing. Sweet. MAG, the Massive Action Game that lets 256 players play together in multiplayer was demoed live on stage. An actual 256 player match was shown with all the trapping promised us last year. Looks cool. They showcased the PSP Go and some games that were going to be appearing on the portable systems. Like a new Jak and Daxter game I caught a short glimpse of during a montage. Kojima was there to announce Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker for the PSP. So this was the real big announcement huh? Apparently it takes place in Central america with as you lead the group that would eventually become outer heaven. I saw four people who looked like Snake side by side in the demo. My guess, the guy on the teaser site with the eye path was Liquid Snake. The game takes place in the 1970's. They announced a new game coming out from Rockstar called Agent, but didn't say much else about it. They demoed Assassin's Creed 2 on stage, yeah, to say the least it was pretty awesome. There was a flying machine, some cool disarming mechanics, even twin retractable blades. Awesome. Final Fantasy 14: Online was shown in a trailer, it is exclusive to the PS3 They also showed their own motion controller, the Playstation motion controller, which was a fluid quick reacting controller that did all the things the Wii claimed it could do when it first came out. I liked it and the best part they even showcased how it could work with both casual and hardcore gamer audiences. As a first person shooter, as a RTS controller for the consoles and as a fighting game mechanic using swords, shurikens and arrows. Looked pretty damn cool. They also demoed a user generated content game called Modnation Racers. They made a quick custom track on stage and had a quick race on it immedietly after they were done building it. Its like Little Big Planet for racing games. The guys who made Ico and Shadow of the Collossus were up next, as they premiered a trailer for "The Last Guardian" the third game in the trilogy of the last two games they made. Last Guardian seems to tell the story of a young boy and a giant feathered monster creature looks like a cross between bird a dog and a goat. Weird looking, but it was kinda cute in an ugly sort of way. If that makes sense. Finally God of War 3, man, I may not like Kratos as a person, but as a character he's pretty damn cool. And this demo showed that off. I'd rather not tell you everything because its a really cool demo and they stopped it just as it was getting good. But I'll tell you this. Kratos stabs a Chimera in the eye with its own horn! Brutal Kill man! And so damn cool. Well, Sony had a pretty good conference this year. I'm now jealous I don't own a PS3. Oh well. Have fun playing it guys! |
