Yup, Robert Downie Jr will be playing the famous detective in this 2009 movie, which, if the trailer is anything to go by, will rock everyone's socks. And if my deductions are correct, may even rock them completely off!

Thoughts, gentlemen? (And ladies of course)

Will this lead to a sequel?

Mayhaps a sequel that takes place in the 22nd century?

*ears perk up* A new film about the Master? I must look into this! *dashes off*

Well, along the same lines of Basil's comment, this sounds really interesting, but I gotta find out more about the movie itself before I can make a comment. ^_^; *dashes off*

*watched trailer* That was. . . interesting. . .

I don't see what people are b*tching about, though. Sure it's not the traditional Holmes and Watson, but it looks pretty cool.

And to make a point, guns and explosions did exist back in Victorian days. . . Just shoot/set fire to something flammable, I guess.

But I'm really hoping is that shirtless brawl thing was a flashback. . .

*violin plays elsewhere*

Oh, Basil's just bummed that he has to wait until Christmas to be able to see it.

A ridiculous concept though. And a god-awful theme song.

Robot Watson? Clone Sherlock? *facepalm*

To be honest, the traditional image of Holmes with that Deer Hunter cap, as cool as it is, is apparently not true. He's never descrived as wearing the thing, according to my english teacher, in the original books. He was once described as wearing an ear flapped travelling hat and was drawn as wearing the Deerstalker cap in a subsequent story and ever since its been tied to the character.

So, I can see why they chose to remove it... but I hope its referenced at some point.

I wonder if they'll include the cocaine and morphine addiction?

Or the fact that the character was a Dr. House level ******* sometimes.

I think they'll include the ass ness, considering the cocky line and Watsons 'issues' with him :P

Not sure about the morphine and cocaine though, what's the age rating on the movie again?

I admit, Holmes could be a jerk, but that never diminished his badassness at all. Its what attracts people to House afterall.

I read one story, where he found out that a man had killed his step-daughter with a trained snake. Holmes forced the serpent back to its master during an undercover sting and the snake returned back to him... killing the man.

"I'm believe I'm the indirect cause of his death." Holmes said "And I can't say the fate isn't well deserved."

I couldn't help but agree with Mr. Holmes on that point, even though I do see it as rather cold.

Oh, that's the Adventure of the Speckled Band, one of my favorite Holmes stories!

There is a term for the fate of Mr. Roylott, Lizard; it is called "poetic justice," an example being when a villain falls into the trap he sets for another. In this case, Roylott was bitten by the Swamp Addler he planned to unleash upon the twin sister of the victim, whom he thought was asleep in her sister's old room next to his while the sister's regular room was "under repairs." But it was Mr. Holmes and Mr. Watson in there instead.

Yeah, I don't expect the movie to be as awesome as that, but I hope it has the classic "deducing everything from almost nothing" Holmes charm. If Spielburg's movie could get it right, I don't see how this movie couldn't.

Never said I didn't WANT him to be portrayed as a jerk,

Heck, I really, really hope they do keep that AND the drugs. He really only did drugs when he was bored and not on a case, so maybe show him getting his needle ready right before someone knocks on the door to hire him. I think it would help to show the time period that Holmes was in, when all of that was perfectly legal.

I also really hope the have that classic scene where Holmes admits he's not very well read or educated, and doesn't care about any teachings that won't help him solve a case.

You know, the one where he doesn't know the Earth is round, and when told that it is indeed round that he will now have to try very hard to forget the new fact.
