I downloaded this last night and oohhh myyy laaawwddd have I enjoyed it. The core gameplay is pretty similar to Resident Evil 4, but there are alot of differences that make it extremely realistic and fun. Like for instance, if you move from a light area, to a dark area, your vision has to actually adjust to the light before you can completely see everything around you. Of course, you still can't move when you shoot, but to be quite honest, I like that about the series. It makes it far more unique and interesting compared to something like Left 4 Dead and Zombie Nazis from Call of Duty: World At War. Don't get me wrong, both great and fun games, but this is something completely different. The pistol and shotgun from RE4 return, and are both pretty fun to use. I much prefer the shotgun because to me, this pistol feels useless unless you hit them directly in the face. You also get to use an MP5, and some sort of bolt action rifle. All of the weapons are fun and enjoyable to me, except the pistol most of the time. The knife is pretty cool, it just feels a little difficult to use in situations when you have no ammo and there alot of zombies around you. Chris Redfield returns as the main protagonist you will be using the most when you're not playing online. He's pretty cool, and has a good bit of character. Although, I still prefer Marcus Fenix and his violent brooding over him just because I get pissed at games and like to hear the character yell with me. The whole swapping weapons/items with your partner is a really cool part of the game and extremely useful in tight, or even calm, situations. Zombies in this game are just so fun to shoot. They lumber around, trying to hit you with an axe, bottle, wrench, whatever they can get. They can also grab you and start chewing on you or something, which is helarious to watch, but it's even funnier when your partner punches or drop kicks them away from you to "save" you. I found it to be really cool and entertaining to shoot things out of the zombies hands and watch them get impailed by their own weaponry. I love a great game that makes me yell with glee as waves and waves of opponents die in a pathetic attempt to take me down. My only real complaint about RE5 is the fact that when you find yourself in a room, filled to the roof with zombies, and your shotgun is out of ammo, leaving you with nothing more than your half full pea shooter pistol and a knife, it can get a bit frustrating. But the challenge outways the frustration and the suprise from some of the parts of the game can either have you going or "BEETCH, ZOMBIEZ IN TEH ROOM, SHOOT EM IN TEH HEAD! SHOOT EM IN DUH HEAAADDDD!!!1%^73474!" |

When I heard the demo of this was up on X-Box Live, hoo boy was I downbeat. I'm not hooked up to the internet with my X-Box yet, so the limited timeframe means I won't get to play the demo. Sadface. I've heard varying things about it, but it does sound fun. I was hoping Jill Valentine would have been in this game though, for some reason. Also, I don't get why the series keeps jumping ahead several years these days. First, RE4 was years after RE3, which made sense there, but then 5 is again years later? Urrh?
That reminds me of the beginning of Fallout 3. You escape from the Vault and exit the cavern. When you do, you're blinded by light and can't see. But your eyes slowly adjust and the brightness bleeds away to slowly reveal the wasteland before you for the first time. It was a very impressive effect. |
