Is Journey of Dreams really bad, or is it just not as good as the original?

Not as good as the original, though the controls are part of the problem. It probably would have been better off if it were made for the 360 or PS3 instead.

Strange, because usually, video game sequels tend to be better than their predecessors. I imagine if Sega decided to rerelease it for the 360 and PS3, they'd have to touch up the graphics as well.

Usually, yeah, but one has to remember this particular sequel wasn't released until close to a decade later. As we know, major staff changes since then. No Yuji Naka either.

I suspect this to be part of why the sequel didn't quite live up.

Oh yeah, right. Didn't he say he never intended to produce a sequel, or something along those lines?

I honestly don't recall him saying much of anything regarding one, to be honest. It seemed to be one of those things everybody wanted but Sega didn't seem too content to do at the time. Then he left and I guess Sega decided it might as well do one.

Shame the sequel didn't get as good of a reception as the original did. Seems that anything Yuji Naka's involved in, magic is made.

Well okay, maybe not everything.

He'd left by then. He didn't have much of anything to do with that trashcan; and if he did, it was minimal. Hell, I actually think he'd left before Shadow the Hedgehog had been released.

I don't think I can recall Yuji Naka playing that big of a part in Sonic Heroes' production either.

I think by the time of Heroes he was mostly just there making the window dressing, or visuals. I recall him handling pretty much everything in Adventure, then being scaled back to art director. From there, his involvement was pretty much less and less until he left.

Wonder what exactly happened that he just stuck to the role of art director?

Not sure. Sega seems to have been temultous at that period in time. Apparently, it's been reported in the past few months that Sonic Team didn't even want to do Sonic games anymore and were practically forced to. Sounds like everything in general was going down the toilet. Which explains quite a bit. Peter Moore had an altercation with the Japanese branch of Sega. Bad tidings all around.

Yuji Naka left after a while, seemingly to do his own things. So I guess he slowly grew tired of Sega.

Well, damn. For a long time, I remained positive that Sonic's career would turn up in the future, but now, looking at some of his upcoming titles, I've just lost a lot of faith. Sega seriously needs to take a break from Sonic so they can get their act together.

Sadly, with the economy in the state it is, I don't think that will happen. Sonic games are guaranteed sales successes. Hence why they're sure to rush one out before Christmas whenever there's one in the pipeline.

Look at it this way man; at least we have the Chronicles games to look forward to.

Yeah. I guess I can take comfort in that fact. Still, Sega needs to cut the bulls###, and take a page from Nintendo's book on how to make games. They gotta take it slow and steady.
