Oh dear...

http://www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=6571

Now I'll admit, since I'm a biiig Cowboy Bebop fan, I did get a lil excited when I first heard about this. But then I started to get worry. Because Fox is making the film.

*sigh* Yep, they're at it again.

The director of the film will be Erwin Stoff.

Quote:

“I have such an enormous admiration for its creators, that our first and foremost concern is going to be a real degree of faithfulness to the tone of the movie, to the mix of genres, and so on and so forth,” he says. “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A SCANNER DARKLY, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.”

Faithfullness has always been a problem with movie adaptions, and I am praying that Stoff will stay true to his words. I've seen Scanner Darkly, it was pretty interessting but as I haven't read the book I wouldn't know if he kept the movie true to the original or not.

Rumor has it they're recruiting Keanu Reeves for Spike. Ya know I always did think if they ever made a CB movie, Reeves may not make such a bad Spike.

Well, here's hoping they don't screw this up. Cuz if they do, they're gonna get a lllooooot of people angry.

When will Hollywood learn? You can't make live action movies based off anime. They always turn out like crap! did you seen that Final Fantasy live action movie? I almost died. Then they decide to butcher DBZ, and now they've set their sights on Cowboy Bebop? I hate Hollywood.

I think I'm going to be sick...

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was Final Fantasy in name alone. Otherwise, it was a decent flick. It just wasn't exactly a good Final Fantasy flick, considering it was msising everything that made Final Fantasy Final Fantasy, barring the name.

Fox is doing this. It's going to bomb. I wish it wouldn't happen to the finest anime to ever come out of japan.

Ugh, that just killed it for me. To quote DL, "Keanu's got the acting skills of a block of wood". I think a more important question is who's gonna play everyones favorite, Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV.

I'm with Ghetto. Keanu's a terrible actor and would bomb as Spike. Any of his better films are all those that don't require him to actually do any real acting. Or it's a stoner flick; see Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Honestly, I'm somewhat stumped as to who could make a good Spike, much less Ed. Spike's a lot more complex than he appears on the surface, so it'd require good acting, he's lanky and he's proficcient in Jeet Kune Do. Then there's Spikes distinct voice.

I just really don't know. I really think this is a bad idea. Hollywood is desperate to capitilize on the anime craze here in America, so they're mining the best of the best in search of making a quick buck. Hell, Warner Brothers just nabbed the rights to do a live action film based on Ninja Scroll.

This isn't going to end well.

It's talk like that that makes me to believe somewhere in the future, Shia LaBeouf or some other kid actor stars in a live-action Naruto movie. *shudders*

I consider us lucky that Japan bet us in a making a Death Note movie before Hollywood.

Death Note would like a word with you. Those movies were awesome.

Oh my God.

Cowboy Bebop is one of my fav. animes ever, (I just say: Collectors Box <3)
but I'm not interested in another crappy live action movie without heart. ._.
CB is perfect the way it is.. I guess it's not possible to turn such an amazing anime into a suitable movie with real people. <_<" *brr*

(Btw.. I have no idea for good actors. Really. These characters are unique and Ed is un-playable! x'D)
*You might deny this but, I knew you were calling me, from your heart...*

*I heard you too...*

Oh when I meant Reeves wouldn't make such a bad Spike, I meant in terms of looks. Just thrown in the mop head hair and he could just pull it off.

But yeah, in terms of acting, while I don't hate him, I'm really not so crazy about him either. Plus Spike's character has a lot of depth, I really can't think up any actor who could play him at all. Hell, not just him, but the rest of the crew as well.

The more I think about it, the more sick I'm starting to feel.

So Keanu Reeves has been confirmed for the role of Spike...eh...

BUT, a bit of good news,

Quote:

It has also been confirmed through Variety in a January 15, 2009 article, that the production company, Sunrise, Inc., will be "closely involved with the development of the English language project" and that Kenji Uchida, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto has been confirmed to be associate producers and that series producer Masahiko Minami has been confirmed as a production consultant. Variety also confirms that Peter Craig is currently attached as screenwriter.

I love Sunrise, and original Cowboy Bebop team members are in it as well, I really startin to develope hope for this film.

I'm just worried about the actors their gonna pick for the rest of the cast. Keanu Reeves for Spike...meh, not too iffed about it anymore since I kinda expected it, but they better pick good actors for Faye, Jet and Ed! I don't want them choosing those everyday Hollywood actors. Some new fresh faces would be good.

Spirits Within was live action? Funny, because when I watched it, it was really, really, really, REALLY good CG animation. You might wanna check it again.

It was downright fantastic CGI animation. It was also a decent movie. It's not hard to see why most people immediately turned their noses up at it, however. Despite it's name, it was definitely not a real Final Fantasy movie.

On this news... alright, maybe this won't be so bad. Having the team of the show on board makes me think this might end up a decent film. I don't think they'd allow the usual Hollywood butchery of their anime.

On Reeves... well, I guess I can live with this. I've always said he has the acting skills of a block of wood, but every now and then he can surprise you. Besides that, I've got no choice but to accept it or get into a frothy rage, which I don't feel like doing thanks to the news of the original teams involvement. I've heard he's a real fan of the show, so maybe he'll bring some real passion to the table.

Not to be a downer, but that's not exactly a guarantee. I mean, Akira Toriyama wrote DBZ and he's on the board for the DB:E movie and well... well you've seen the trailers.

The guy does play a "bodaciously awesome slacker", dude. X3 And that is somewhat part of Spike's persona, so I'll give him a shot.

Any word on the rest of the cast??? I'm anxious on who's gonna be Eddy.

Toriyama said he was alright with a reimagining; he hasn't played any role in it's production. If he had, I don't think it would have turned out as it is.
