Wait, what? Nolan's considering leaving? But, but, but, he can't! He's one of the best things to happen to the Batman franchise in years!!! As for Bay, I'm not particularly happy about that, but I can kinda understand his reasons, considering what he said about the critics. However, I cannot fathom ever getting tired of explosions. What must happen to a person for such a thought to enter their head?!? |

Just considering. Apparently, Heath Ledgers death hit him hard. I can understand, but sometimes you've just got to suck it up for the fans. He's talking with the writers though, so he'll probably be back. Remember, Sam Raimi said he might not be back practically after every movie. He always came back.
Bay always gets criticism for the amount of explosions and special effects he uses in a movie. Hell, even comedy television shows single him out and make fun of him for it. I can understand why he would get somewhat bitter over it. |

Same can be said about any director that do major summer blockbusters. Hell, when I think of special effects, it's either Bay or Zemeckis that comes to my mind. The point is when you got a got a big hit with a sequel, you gonna except to do a third.
I'm hopin that's the real reason, cause that excuse he gave to the LA times made him sound a bit theatrical. Well, more then his movies anyway.

Saw the movie yesterday, gotta say loving all the action and carnage, god Prime beat the living frag out the Decepticons on the Forest, especially the Trans Tality on The Fallen with the Face Rip and Spark Buster. Jet Optimus FTW!!

I saw it, I'm rather dissapointed to be honest. True, the scenes we got with the autobots fighting were good. However they were underutilized in the grand scheme of things. Most of the decepticons in the end are killed by humans in rather anti-climatic ways. Worst of all the new introduced characters have practically no screen time or lines. Arcee doesn't even talk until close to the end. We didn't get to understand who these characters were and why we should care about them. Instead we focus on a bunch of human characters, the US Army and number of rather crude and stupid little sex and testicle jokes. It got old. Don't get me started on the twins, the fact these two idiots got more screen time then half of the established actual characters from the show and toy line is bad enough. They made devastator look like a joke, who by the way looked pretty damn cool... then they killed him in two seconds. In the game it was played up as total robots fightings other robots. Devastator apparently fights the autobots and they defeat him, here his threat is extinguished moments after he's introduced. The fact is I don't care about any of these human characters, and the focus on them was tiring. I wanted to see the Autobots more, I wanted to see their reactions to what was going on, how they were dealing with the loss of their homeland, their thoughts on their current mission, there was so much to be touched upon and we got nothing. I like an explosion movie, but for a Transformers movie I expected so much more especially with all the hype about new characters and such. Oh and the final battle was over far too quickly. |

I don't know what you were expecting out of a two some odd hour movie man. Hollywood can't get over putting ethnic people in good roles. CG robots? Fugeddaboutit. As long as s*** blows up real nice, Optimus gets in some good screentime and the story's pretty good I'm set. After the first one I never harbored any thoughts that the humans were suddenly going to be pushed to the background all of a sudden. |

Well the story's not exactly great, it meananders for awhile and it closes up way too quickly for me. Actually I wasn't expecting much, other then just seeing robots blow stuff up and that didn't happen as much as I wanted to and when it did happen it ranged from awesome to unsatisfying. It was very hit or miss, Optimus, hit, bumblebee Hit, everyone else, miss. I was just hoping for a greater emphasis on the actual Autobots to be honest and they don't appear very much in their own movie they just seem to take a back seat to the humans. I figured, second movie, we've established the characters, now we can see them do stuff. But they don't do much, the US Military does more in this movie then half the autobots and at the end of it all I couldn't tell which Autobots had lived or died. It was that hard to follow. And to be honest at times I felt offended by the Twins. I know there was no intention behind it or malice or actual hatred... but it was incredibly stereotypical and I wanted them to shut up everytime they talked. It just isn't as good as the last movie for me. |

Agreed. But I have to say this about the movie, it makes me want to watch/check out anything to do with Transformers like WHOA. And it's because of that...I'll call it the history lesson scene, where they're talking about the Primes and stuff. Dunno if any of that is true in actual Transformers canon, but it makes me want to watch Transformers. Which is something the first one didn't. The final battle pissed me off though. Because it was like an hour of: WE HAVE TO GET OVER THERE! And then a five minute battle. |

Outta all the blockbusters I've seen this summer so far, I'd rank this as a C (Star Trek is an A on my list). LM pretty much listed half my list of what was wrong with this, so I'll just do my two main issues with this movie; One, everything was moving too damn fast. I swear, it's like Bay just decided to have the whole movie play with the fast forward button down. I could barely make out any of the action scenes, most of them nothing but moving blurs. And on the side of that, there was a lot of unnecessary camera angling, example; that 360-deg camera love scene with Shia and Megan, I almost got seasick. And speakin of unnecessary, number two is most of the sexual material in this. The whole "make-out" thing with the Pretender was expected, but somebody wanna tell me why a robot would hump a human chicks leg? Or perhaps telling me why the audience would find it interesting that Devastator has wreaking-balls for BALLS? *Exhales* Okay, now that that's over with, lets move on to the good stuff. Despite the lack of new Transformer appearances on both sides, I loved most of the design specs for them, Soundwave as a communications satellite, dead on. Megatron's new form kinda sat weird with me, his arm's kinda shrunk a bit while his feet went overboard, like a mecha T-rex. Jetfire personality as an old veteran was a interesting twist, it just sucks that he's appearance was cut short, but the Prime/Jet fusion was worth it. |

Maybe the next movie will be Beast Wars? Just saw the movie and was pleasantly surprised. I liked it quite a bit. I'd bump it to about a B-. I didn't really think it was too fast, I could tell what was going on most of the time. I also really liked the twins as a comedic foil. They were annoying, but that was their character and they made me laugh because of it. Bee was underused though, which kind of sucked. He had two major scenes in the entire movie. A shame. Sex jokes were a little plentiful, as was the slow motion running in a spaghetti strap tank top, but I'm not going to complain (certainly not about the latter). I laughed at some of the jokes, I groaned at others. Then something blew up and I was happy again. I also didn't mind the humans and the military. I mean, it's a movie about aliens trying to destroy our planet... I'm interested in seeing our side of it. And if humans can destroy Decepticons... well good for us! Best joke of the movie was Jetfire's transforming. His face mask gets stuck and he has to force it. Any of us that had the oldschool toys are well aware of how much of a bitch they could be to transform after a while. So yeah, good popcorn flick but if you're looking for a movie with plot... you shouldn't be looking for one brought to you by a toy line.

Its not that I'm against the idea of humans beating decepticons, its just that when they can kill devastator in a milisecond it makes me wonder why they need the Autobots at all. You may have been satisfied but I was expecting more from what I got, and I wasn't expecting much else besides seeing more Autobots and Decepticons fighting and hearing more about them instead of characters I could care less about. And thats the thing, sure, good for us, we rock, we're humanity, whooo! I've seen that, I've seen it a million times. Its the basis of America Saves the world from Aliens trope. Its fine, nothing against it, But I've seen the human side of it, so much so it begins to get a bit dull and when they apparently take over half the movie that should focus on the giant friggin robots its jarring. Its what happened with Godzilla 98, they focused more on the love story of two humans instead of the giant monster I and millions of other people were expecting to see. Even a popcorn flick should have a semblance of a plot. Thats not really much of an excuse. Die Hard at least had a plot, man tries to save his wife from a bunch of crinimals holding a building hostage and thats the movie that wrote the book on modern popcorn flicks. This movie had a plot too, but it wasn't exactly a steller one... or one that actually engaged me very much. I just think the Transformers franchise could do better. |

In regards to a live action film? I wouldn't fool myself man. We're lucky both movies even have a coherent plot much less any quality at all. A certain upcoming toy line film adaption doesn't look like it'll be so lucky... |

No real hopes for that one either, I'm just expecting to see at least one cool ninja fight. Thats it. And yes, I do recognize that for a live action film chances are low at it being any good. But its still well loved franchise, even if it is a stupid toy, I just ask for them to make something thats more then the sum of its part. I mean, it the kind of additude that "Its a stupid movie, no one cares as long as theres action" that almost killed Batman off with Batman and Robin. Sure its a cartoon, but some people really love said cartoon. Instead of seeing it as art because that would be silly or as cash because that would be rather petty, see it as something you can do for the fans. Don't do it out of money or a quick buck. I mean no one expects much out of these movies, but would it hurt for them to try harder? |
