I'm back, with another batch of Turtle videos for your viewing pleasure Think all cartoons now treat kids like idiots? Allow me to show you this. as proof that even though the violence has tonned down there is still hope for cartoons to be smart again. This is the darkest episode of TMNT ever, and you'll see why withing the first ten seconds. Still wish the new series had the original theme song redone and basically cooler. Like a cover or something with rock music playing in the background and everything. Same as it Never Was Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 |

On that Turtles episode LM, I really enjoyed that one. And it was dark. And rather smart. It actually gave me hope for some of todays cartoons. I must say, the only thing that ever bothers me about the new Turtles show is Donatello's voice. It fits well enough, but sometimes it's a little annoying. On the new theme song, I agree in a way, but I like the new theme. Besides, it's better to distinguish itself from the old show that way too. Everybody knows the old show's theme, and this is a thematically different cartoon. Much smarter, a bit darker and more stylish. A different version should have a different theme song. The old theme fit the old show best anyways. You know, I gotta say it. I love the old show to death, but I've been watching some of the new show on youtube lately, and I think I like the new one best. |

Your point on the theme song is well taken. I guess its just one of the things you kinda wish they carried over anyway, even if you do know its technically older and maybe wouldn't work. Still could've tried to make it work with a little bit of an update, nothing big really. The intro sequence this guy cooked up isn't too bad. With a little frsh up and modernization it could've worked on the show. Just my thoughts really, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXLgJ0aF5zg ______ Anyway, now I want to talk a little bit about the Turtle's most well known adversary. The Shredder, metal masked leader of the foot ninja clan and incredibly hard to stop. Although he was only featured in the original comics for a few issues and then killed off rather quickly he appeared again in different forms over the next few years in the comics. The original Oroku Sakai Shredder however stayed dead in the comics. But because he was such a badass and such a cool villian Shredder, or Shred-head as we all called him, has stayed with the franchise longer then anyone. The closest so far however, to his original butt whooping self from the comics that we have is in the first movie of the three. His fight against the Turtles was the highlight of the film and was the perfect finale to the movie. Shredder fight from the first movie Now you think that because shredder fell into a friggin garbage compactor we wouldn't see him again right? Wrong! This guy is like a cockroach or something cause he came back in the second movie looking more like his cartoon counterpart and with a more menacing voice. In that one he turned into Shredder by drinking the last of the ooze and in that fight the Turtles couldn't even touch him let alone fight him. Of course as you saw in the Angry nerd's review of the third movie we got a cop out ending for that. Meh, whatever. The movie was running long I guess. The third decided to skip anything about the Shredder or even add in another bad guy from the comics or cartoon. Why? I don't know, I don't care. So let's forget about that okay? Anyway while the movies were going on we had ourselves a different Shredder from both the movies and comics appearing on TV. This one was a neurotic stereotype of a villian who failed almost everytime and had horrible henchmen to deal with. Worst he was being ordered around by psychotic infeminite brain. The Shredder in the cartoons was still a formidable adversary but he was completely hampered by those around him and bullied by the one leading him. Krang and Shredder's comedic foul ups were one of the reasons the show was so successful. But really, what do you expect out of a comedy action series? Cartoon shredder is still one of the best villians i know of. Even if he is "A bumbling idiot" in Krang's words Shredder as leroy brown The song fits because of how compeltely unserious it is, like the original show. Contrast this Shredder with the new series and you get a completely different story. First the creature Krang is based off of, the Ultroms from the comics, are back in their original forms. This pays important to this version of the shreeder, in this carnation Shredder isn't a human...he's actually an evil Ultrom that crash landed here with the good Ultroms long ago. Since then he's been trying to both take over the planet and enslave his former captors. Why? Cause he can of course. And in this series he dies more then once! He is supposedly killed several times in the series. Once when Master Splinter drops a water tower on him, second when Leonardo chops off his head (which does nothing cause thats just part of his robot body) a third time when the Turtles found out his true identity as an alien and left him for dead in the imploding TCRI building that he himself had preped for its destruction! And even then he survived! With help from his adopted daughter Karai and some weird worms in a tube Shredder came back. This time the Turtle thought he burned alive in a exploding Foot ship lab. They of course didn't buy it. Finally, the Turtles fought the Shredder one last time on board his space ship. This time in a different version of the super shredder form. The battle is shown here. If you're like Soni, you'll recognize the music. Final Battle with the Shredder from Exodus prt II Just to let you know the turtles won with help from the ultroms and the shredder was captured, tried for his crimes and sent to a frozen planet to die. I'll admit its cruel, but consider the fact that this shredder started civil wars and terrorist attacks for profit. There, now you have no more sympathy. Now many people are outraged that the Shredder will not appear in the new movie. Despite the fact that the foot remains. Take solice in the fact that Karai, Shredder's daughter, has taken up his mantle to become the new shredder. See folks, girls can be evil ninja warlords too! In the movie its kinda the same deal. I am not aware if Karai calls herself the shredder in the new film, but she is leading the foot in his absence. Now many of you are probably wondering, where the hell is Krang? Well unfortunately no one known as Krang exists outside the comic continuity. He is purely from the cartoon. However just because he does not exist it doesn't mean he's gone. Confused? Krang made a small cameo in one TMNT episode where the Ultroms were preparing to go home on their transmat. A Ultrom crawling to the mat says "I hate crawling on my tentacles." in a very familar high pitched infeminite voice. To which another ultrom replies. "Shut up Krang." i hope you've enjoyed this little lesson on shredder and little bit more about Krang. Hope to see you again soon with more videos. |

The Ultrom origin has been highly controversial. But I do find it to be a nice departure from the norm. I mean, let's face it. Oroku Saki died in the original issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and never came back since. But Shredder kept coming back, from being ressurected by worms to clones. For Eastman and Laird, an alien origin isn't too out there, or even bad. Plus, if you pay attention to the show, there's some evidence that there was an actual human Shredder at some point in history.
I'm not. It's hard to come back from what happened in the second movie. Besides. If they make anymore movies after this, Shredder will be back eventually. And I think they'll make more movies. Seeing as the Turtles have had a resurgence of popularity in recent years. |

Once again Dl you prove knowledgable beyond your years. There was a real human Shredder in the TMNT 2003 universe. His existance was revealed in the lost fifth season that we saw a prelude to in season four. However the season never aired on Television here in North America and was replaced by the new Fast Forward season. Which I believe is only a tempoary little side trip while they come up with more ideas for the series later. Here Oroku Sakai is a man possessed by an evil demon who sought to rule the whole world through his power. What else do demons do? His origin can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eROZ0KytHk For now on five episodes of the lost fifth season have been shown, the others appear to be delayed. New movie coming out you know, its made by the same company and everything so its taking up a lot of their resources. _________ Now I want to talk about one of the Turtles biggest adversaries. An enemy that wasn't even on their show. Another group of Teen heroes who tried to take away their fan base and their loyal viewers. (The T Tower pops up) And if we can look past that giant tower on that puny little island and look up at the observatory on the hill we can see them. I'm talking of course about the Power Rangers. When it came to TV icons for kids in the late 80's to early 90's there were always two shows you could choose from. Power Rangers or the Ninja Turtles. It was a hard choice back then to say the least. Looking back I don't know why, but it was. You see while TMNT had all the slapstick humour and a good deal of action the Power Rangers were real and they actually had bigger fights. Each of course ending in a huge Zord Kaiju battle. Unlike TMNT however, the Power Rangers had a bland theme song. As a kid I ignored it, but looking back it was just the words "Go Go Power Rangers" over and over again. Look Here! I'm not lying! The Power Rangers Theme The only other lyric for the original series was their name! Now this isn't from the start of the series. I'm really only counting the original Mighty Morphin series. But its isn't much of a theme song. They make up for it with those montages, but the turtles at least had more then two lyrics. Okay I'm not gonna complain about that anymore. Thing is Turtle fans and Ranger fans aren't exactly friends. There's been a long running debate over who would win a battle if these two actually ever fought one another. Even more so over which is the better series. So now I'm going to end the debate once and for all...or at least to me. First off lets look at the Turtles' legacy so far. I only need to go back to my previous videos to point out that turtles have been kicking ass since their underground debut and even if some fans aren't happy about the new series the fact that its the most popular show on 4kids tv proves their staying power...that and look at the competition for 4kids tv there isn't much. Maybe Viva Pinata for its quality CGI animation but other then that nothing much. Still the Turtles have a new movie and a bunch of DVD's of their new series out and a new game. After all these years they're still going strong. The rangers? They're a joke. The whole damn series has degenerated into a large series of cliches desperately trying to keep it fresh and new. First it was dinosaurs, cool, then animals, ninjas, extreme vehicles, outer space, more outer space in a different galaxy, then it was emergency response units, next was time travel, then back to animals, then it was back to ninjas, then back to dinosaurs again, then a bunch of space police men or something, and now we have a bunch of magic lord of the rings type stuff. And apparently they're premiering a new series called "operation overdrive" this year! Its probably going to be about nascar rangers, or maybe space marines or maybe it'll be ninja dinosaur time travelling space marines or some other ****. After awhile you gotta ask, where down on the line did they run out of ideas? With the Turtles you've always had a solid story to stick with, like Spider-Man or Batman. The Rangers, they went from one gimmicky cliche to the next. I'd like to bother putting up all their series intros...but no...I'm not doing that. Instead allow me to explain why the Turtles would kick the power ranger's butts. And before you say "But LM there's so many Rangers! The Turtles wouldn't stand a chance!" Well too bad, cause I'm only going to use the first rangers to prove my point. No ninjas, no animals, no time travel, no stupid animals. Just the dinosaur robots and original weapons. Nothing else. Okay first things first, the mentors of the groups. Splinter and Zordon. As you saw in some of my former videos, most notably the final fight scene with shredder, Splinter is still spry for an old Rat. Zordon never did anything but just sit in his tube. You think an all cosmic being with super powers could've solved his problems on his own. But no, he gets teenagers to do. Splinter trained the Turtles from scratch and in both the new and old series he was more then a match for Shredder. I'm not going to argue about the Turtles fighting skills vs the Ranger's. Why? Because they (Rangers) are cheap. When things go wrong they pull out a giant mega blaster and thats it. Donatello however , being brains of the group would just whip up a device that can disable their laser weapons and then the Turtles can lay the law down on the Rangers. And of course being cheap the Rangers will retreat to their zords now. However once again the Turtles will prevail because they're smart, they'll simply sneak aboard the Zord, being too small for the Rangers too see now. They'll disable the robot from the inside and the whole things a fair fight again. So lets remember...no lasers! No zords! I think the Turtles would be more then a match for the Rangers now wouldn't they. To prove my point, here's the Power ranger episode Shellshock where the Turtles are turned evil by some stupid princess and attack the Rangers. This is more of a team up then vs match. However notice how the Rangers never beat the Turtles in battle. And yes I know these are niether the original nor cartoon versions of either. Look, I looked everywhere for Turtle vs Power Rangers stuff. The only things I found were on newgrounds and two idiots pretending to be the rangers and the Turtles. It was pathetic. So I might as well show both here, shellshock and the flash I found at newgrounds. Enjoy Shellshock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sRwnrqqMw8 Newgrounds Flash: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/30663 |

I pride myself in knowing what the hell I'm talking about when I open my mouth. Just trying to bring back some good discussion and epic win to the internet with my observational and discussion skills. On the Power Rangers, I was actually a fan of both them and the turtles back when I was a kid. But like you said LM, they have completely devolved into a joke. I'll say it right now. The original Power Rangers show still isn't bad. It's corny as all hell, but it was still pretty good. I'll be straight to the point LM. I believe the point they ran out of steam can be traced directly back to when they lost the ninja theme. The vehicles thing was new, but a step backwards in quality overall for the show. But the true point where they simply ran out of things to do was when they sent the Rangers to outer space. By this point I was well out of Ranger fandom, but when I caught wind of it, I thought it was quite pathetic. Normally, I have a general rule. In a long running syndicated franchise like the Rangers, I point to the decision to send the characters into space as the focal point of running out of ideas. The Turtles are an exception, as they had spacebound stories in the other stuff and it wasn't out of the blue. Generally, the idea comes when they simply cannot think of anything cool to do with the franchise anymore, so they look at outer space as the next big thing. For one reason or another, it never works, and the fans just basically call for the whole thing to quit. It's a phenomenon that one could argue is a focal point for when a show has jumped the shark. It's a theme that has evidence here too. If you look at the ideas they had post outer space, they went back to the same concepts they had done before. They had nothing more to use.
The most vocal part of any fanbase will be the ones who criticize something. In the case of the new show, some Turtles fans absolutely refuse to accept change of any kind. Many of them point to the original show as the definitive version. The problem is, the original show is not the definitive version. It's just the adaption most grew up with. If you want me to be blatant with the way I look at shows, like Teen Titans, the eighties Turtles cartoon was kind of a butchery of the comic. It adapted everything differently, from villans to storylines, and cast April in a job she never really had. Now, as you know LM, I love the old show to death, but I'll reiterate it again here, due to the fact that I just slapped my patented "butchery" label on the show. I love the eighties Turtles cartoon. I can accept it because it was a truely great kids show that, even while being a butchery, never affected the comic material and was consistantly entertaining. But back to my point. Many of them absolutly refuse to accept any other version of the Turtles. You see this a lot with the new movie too. Some are in outrage that it's gonna be CG and not animatronics. You know why? Because the most vocal part of the fanbase are the people who grew up with the original movie and the series, and refuse to accept change of any kind. They are anal, ridiculous and obnoxious, just like similar people in every fandom. The reason it's still so popular, however, is that most fans aren't of that vocal sect. The fans of the comics seem to love the new show and how much closer it was to the comics they religiously collected. The average turtle fan likes the show. The vast majority love it. Which proves the ones who are the loudest aren't the majority, or even right. It's the ones who just cannot accept anything but what they grew up with that are the most heard, because they are the ones who rush online to complain about things or take the most time to display their views on things, however narrow minded. They even scare off the people who love the show, too scared to let their views be known to be bashed by the people who can't move on.
I can sum up the outcome of such a debate in one sentence. The Turtles are freakin' ninjas. No matter how hard they try, the Rangers couldn't top that, and they didn't even get to that stage until years later. And they were more ninja's in name alone. Besides, the writers often enough come up with new ways to use the Turtles. Power Rangers ran out of steam a long time ago. The Turtles win on the basic principle alone. The fact that they could likely beat the Rangers in fighting skills as well just makes the victory a shutout. |

I suppose that in most franchises when the show switches to a space theme entirely it can kill the franchise. Thankfully however most people don't take that route and keep the space stories as one episode only. But when the franchise turns into a total space faring quest it kills it. I stopped watching Sonic X when they switched it to a space quest. That was such a dull season. I see your point about the whole popularity thing, the loudest people aren't the majority. Thats what I keep telling people about Muslims. Just because the most vocal people are fanatics doesn't mean they're right or the majority of us. Okay, I'm pretty much sucking Youtube dry of all the good Turtle vids. perhaps a parody. Since you mentioned Ninjas Dl... Naruto-TMNT Its the only one I can accept as actually the closest to being faithful to the characters...don't know if its Gaara or Rock Lee as Raphael. You decide i suppose. |

Well I'm back again folks and with more turtle videos. Unfortunately this time its a sad note, the end of the 90's and the inevitable end of that period of Turtle mania. Since 1987 the Turtles had been beloved by all us Turtle fans. They had basically reached the peak of their popularity. They were an awesome franchise spanning every major medium. Comics, TV, Movies, Video Games, Action Figures, Cereal, Underwear, the list went on and on. But the show had been on for over ten years, after that many seasons people were starting to get bored with the Turtles. In an attempt to win back fans the creators of the show decided they needed to change the show up a bit to keep up with their aging fan base. So they decied to make it more edgy, on par with Batman and other superhero shows of that time. It started off with the biggest change in franchise to date. It went from a comedy/action series to a more edgy show when they had Shredder kidnap the staff of Channel 6 and hold them for ransom unless the turtles followed his demands. If they didn't he'd blow up Channel 6 and everyone in it! Splinter managed to rescue the crew and the Turtles believed that since the building didn't blow Shredder was bluffing. "I never bluff!" Shredder said and with a flick of the detonator the whole damn building exploded. Channel 6 was gone and the show would never be the same again. The New Edgy Intro More changes followed, mutants became more frequent on the show, the turtles got mutated further into unstable brawlers on line with the Hulk and Shredder eventually left with Krang into obscrurity only appearing in small cameo rolls along with Bebop and Rocksteady. In their place was the far more competent villian Lord Dregg, an Alien overlord who eventually tricked the people of New York into thinking he was the good guy and the Turtles were menaces to society. I liked the new direction the show was going for and caught it everyday as usual. But the show was still old, still engrained in our minds, the look had changed but the feel was still the same. It wasn't enough to save the series however. Dregg was exposed in the final episode of the season and the turtles redeemed. The 1987 series was over. And with it, so was Turtle mania. There was a short lived anime series in Japan...but just looking at the cutscene it was not at all the same. TMNT-Anime There was also a live action series after the end of the 1987 series. This one kept the feel of the mythos of what the Turtles were, but now it just seemed more power ranger then Turtle. It didn't catch the same amount of Turtle mania and the show was cancelled after a season or two. Press Video for Next Mutation Turtles Fans still held on to the Franchise, the comcis were still printed, and we all still loved them. They were our childhood memories of course. In fact, this girl apparently runs her life on Turtles gas. She's the biggest Turtle nerd ever! I salute her for it. The World's Biggest Turtle Fan Many people may say these type of people have no lives, I beg to differ. If someone likes a show so much and they keep that love throughout their adulthood it says something about them. That they truly deeply love it and to say that they're losers is stupid. There's nothing wrong with loving a show or franchise. As long as you live your life the way you want to, then you're not a loser. But just loving a series or franchise is not enough, when the 1987 series died we never had the same feel of a Turtle comeback. The franchise went on, but it was not at the same height of popularity as it was then. While the Power ranger continued to produce crap series after crap series and Godzilla 1998 bombed as fans we cried inside. Our franchises were becoming tired and nothing left the same feeling in us as it did before. But in every cloud there is a bright spot. For Godzilla 1998 it was the Animated series which totally rocked in my opinion. For TMNT it probably served it well to go away for awhile. While people like Judy gold talked smack about the show on VH1's I love the 80's special, saying about TMNT "Thank God, its over." Our turtles were waiting to strike once more. From the shadow of the night the Turtles returned to take the world by storm. Now a new generation of kids can enjoy the same fun and excitement I did, and I can relive those moments as well. Thanks to the new 2003 series I feel like rejoice in the Turtles name. And now with the new movie set to come out this can only be the start of a new Turtle mania. And with some clips from the film, its looking good. Fight Scene Leonardo and Splinter Don't wanna give too much away. For more, if you want, check out this place. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=twingrin19 I'll find more TMNT history, an get back to you. |
