Well, I'm assuming the latter. =P I mean, it's not like everybody's been giving Sonic's werewolf transformation a warm welcome. But I say we give it a chance before we decide if it outright sucks or not.

I'm going to give it a chance for certain. I at least want to see some gameplay video of the change before I make any kind of judgement on the idea as a whole thus far.

Still, I'm not gonna hold back. If they blow this, I'm gonna be pissed. I want a great Sonic game again dammit! >_<

Official Nintendo Magazine have unveiled on their website the Sonic Unleashed front cover of their magazine which reveals that new screens and information will be in Friday's issue. They also say, "Yes, by day, Sonic is the blue hedgehog we all know and love, but when the sun sets, he turns into a werehog with claws and fangs.

This does make a difference to the gameplay, as the werehog is slower, but stronger, meaning he can swing around levels, move obstacles, and hurl enemies around."

The transformation is starting to sound promising now. He's traded in some speed for strength, and he doesn't transform by choice. Only at night.

Sega still haven't explained how he got this curse though.

Also, Yoshihisa Hashimoto, the game's lead designer, has confirmed that even though Sonic Unleashed is a part of the mainstream series of Sonic games, it won't have any connection to Sonic Next-Gen. As far as the 3D parts of the gameplay are concerned, they're making it similar to the first two Sonic Adventure games.

Okay. So, here's what I'm able to find out from the Official Nintendo Magazine. The latest info:

-The game started development as Sonic Adventure 3

-Were-Sonic will be slower, stronger, but more agile. Access new areas, only playable at night.

-Sonic avoids obstacles, Were-Sonic destroys them, and uses his long arms to move, similar to an ape.

-Wii version will be a graphical showcase for the system.

-Wii version is the original platform. The PS2 version is a downgraded version of Wii version, and Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be a graphically updated version.

-It will be played with the nunchuck, not the Wiimote sideways as in Secret Rings.

-Big budget game, similar in scope with the two Sonic Adventure games.

-Story: Dr. Eggman manages to defeat Super Sonic, causing Sonic to be seriously altered in health. As soon as night falls, Sonic transforms into an immensely powerful beast.

-Were-Sonic will not be evil, but rather a 'hulk' version of Sonic. Sonic maintains his normal good guy personality.

-Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow are in the game, but only as part of the story.

-Speed Boost from Sonic Rush appears in Sonic Unleashed.

-New moves include Sonic Drift (short sharp turn when moving at high speeds) and Quick Step (from Sonic and the Secret Rings, avoid obstacles in the way)

-The game is designed by Yashihita Hasimoto (Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Advance, Sonic Pinball Party, Sonic Adventure DX).

-Developed by Sonic Team of Japan, not a worldwide collaboration as previosly rumored.

-No official footage from the Wii version on the Internet so far.

-No relation with Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 or Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Awesome.

but also, how it's more similar to the first two Sonic Adventure games, is even more amazing.

I'm also interested in how they're going to do the music(of course). My idea would be that they would use fast paced techno/electronic/rock music(not like crush 40 rock, but something with a fast beat to it), with...well, a sonic style for the Day stages. Or whatever fits the stage. I.E, a desert sound for a desert stage.

Or something like this:
(after the trailer part)
Sonic Unleashed Gameplay (like :41-1:53)

And for the night stages...hmm

I'd assume the music for the night stages would be something just a twinge more menacing. And for some reason, I can't seem to picture the idea of electric guitars anywhere in the music for the night stages.

But that may be because of the level designs...

True, however we haven't heard what the night stages will be like; do we run around smacking people? How fast paced is it? How much slower than the day stages will it be?

What night level designs?

No, we don't run around smacking people.

We run around smacking robots, I'd be assuming. :P

As for the speed of the night stages... well, I'm picturing that Sonic would be about as fast as Donkey Kong. I'm comparing the gameplay to Jungle Beats here.

Haven't you seen any of the screenshots for the night levels?

You weren't around when the screenshots of the game were leaked?!

Okay, so they're not screenshots of gameplay, but rather the level designs themselves.

Oh my god, I LOVE THEM.

I just love the overall feel of that particular level. A desert night thing. Sweet.

UPDATE: ...

Heh. I'm beginning to sound like that host for Unsolved Mysteries. And the Tourette's Guy.

Feh.

Anyways... the May '08 issue of Play Magazine is gonna feature a cover story of Sonic Unleashed, and will reveal some new screenshots and a new interview. We might actually get some new info on the game's progress here.

Check it out.

BLEEP! BLEEP! NEWS ALERT! NEWS ALERT!

So apparently, Sonic Team are going to be developing the 360 and PS3 versions of Sonic Unleashed, whereas the Wii port (the one that this game is primarily being made for) is being made by Dimps, the guys who gave us the Sonic Rush series, and is going to focus HEAVILY on side-scrolling gameplay. I can only assume that this goes for the PS2 port as well.

So, does this mean the cutscenes are going to differ from the next-gen outings as well? I'm still not sure, I think when the game comes out, I'll look at gameplay videos and cutscenes before I decide which version I wanna buy.

Then again, knowing myself, I'll probably wind up getting both the Wii and the 360 ports anyway. XD
