Suck up much? If Sonic and the Black Knight is even partially successful, it'll probably because the gameplay is at least decent. The only thing horrible I found out of the game is the concept of Sonic having a sword. |

Well don't. Okay, so I was browsing around the net for anything new related to Sonic Unleashed, and I found an interesting link on the game's Wikipedia page. http://videogames.yahoo.com/search?q=sonic+unleashed&t=0 This page states that the PS2 and PS3 ports of the game will be released on the 18th of November this year, while the 360 version will be released earlier on October 1st, and the Wii version on November 4th. I don't know what to think of it, considering that the PS3 port was listed again, this time saying it'll be released alongside the 360 version. So, are these release dates plausible. I doubt it. |

Well you're welcome, I guess, but did you even read my last sentence before posting?
Honestly, pay attention, man. As I said, try to take these release dates with a grain of salt. |

Considering Sega's habit of making horrible games these days, your friends with a PS3 are probably making out better than you in that regard. I was actually thinking this might have turned out alright. Then I heard the E3 reports and saw Sonic and the Black Knight of all things. Goodbye sliver of optimism. |

With Sega these days, it's easy not to get optimistic about any upcoming games. But it seems like they know what they're doing this time. The best thing to do would be to just sit on the fence, wait for the game to be released, wait to see if the games get any good reviews, and if people actually like it, then buy it. Or rent it, if you have some sneaking suspicions. |

The bottomless pits and reactions of the interviewer at E3 kinda killed my buzz. It really sounds like Sonic Team, while indeed working to fix some of the things wrong with the franchise, is still trapped in the same design pitfalls. Then Sonic and the Black Knight came around. The images I posted in the Stupidity thread a while back accurately reflect my feelings. |

You mean feelings of pure mockery? Yeah. I have similar feelings about it. Except I'm not mocking it. I'm bashing it. Sonic stated in Shadow the Hedgehog that he'd never use a weapon of any sort. And now, he's using a sword in Sonic and the Black Knight. Sonic Team is going against continuity. That'd be like giving Batman an actual gun for him to use all the time. |

Whether I can accept stuff like that depends solely on whether it's canon or not. If it is, that's blatant disregard of things already set up. If not, well, if you really hate the concept, like me, you could ignore it. For instance, with the Batman thing. If someone did a Batman story where he used a gun and kept it within continuity, I'd be storming DC with pitchforks and such for ruining my Batman unless the story posed a damn good, impossibly believable reason for a man who hates guns to use one. Of which I've only seen one. In Infinite Crisis, when he thought Dick had died, Bruce damn near snapped, grabbed a nearby handgun and almost used it. That was believable, because he had almost lost the man he considered his son and damn near snapped. He didn't use it anyways though. Cool. Outside of canon? Do what you want, I say. It exists on it's own and I can completely ignore it. Outside of continuity with no bearing on the ongoing adventures? Batman with a gun could actually be sort of cool and bring some good stories. As long as it's outside of canon. But then, there are just some plain bad ideas. Like sonic with a sword. Even outside of continuity, I can't help laughing at this. what the hell. |

Okay yes, the Storybook series isn't set within the main Sonic canon storyline, but still some things should be kept so details about characters will remain virtually the same across different continuities. Yeah, Sonic doesn't need to use a weapon, but for what reasons? Personally, I think it'd be more than just the fact that he's a living weapon himself, what with his abilities. Sonic's a superhero who isn't into killing all that much, unless he has no choice. So I guess he could see using a weapon as a method of killing, and he tries to avoid weapons altogether. By wielding a sword, it'd go against his views on how to stop enemies. Man, this reminds me so much of a couple of issues back in the Archie comics before they really started becoming crap, when Sonic was holding the Sword of Acorns for a while until he lost it to Eggman. Or Robotnik, or Robo-Robotnik, if you choose to get technical. Well anyway, the point is I didn't like the idea of Sonic having a sword, even before Shadow the Hedgehog. He can buzzsaw through enemies just like that. When he was holding that Sword of Acorns... I don't know. I just didn't know what to think. Another time he was caught using a sword was in one episode of the short-lived Sonic Underground series to cut a rope that was holding up a tapestry, so that it would fall on two of Robotnik's henchmen, Sleet and Dingo. What?! He could've easily cut that rope by buzzing right through it himself, without that sword! I mean, he's cut through SWATbots and metal walls and ceilings and other crap, but he can't cut through a f###ing rope without a sword?!? I just hate that. I just f###ing hate that. Sonic does not need a sword. The idea of him having one sucked then, and it sucks now. |

Well, hence why I said that there are some ideas that are just bad with a character, period. This is one of them. I'm still loving the reaction to that game from the rest of the Sonic community though. Some of the mocking posts that have been made are so quotable. |

I love my current one. No one takes Sega seriously anymore when it comes to Sonic games. XD Part of why I like fangames lately. Many of them have the promise and are on their way to doing what Sega can't anymore. Make a decent Sonic game. |

I actually find Sonic Robo Blast 2 to be a pretty awesome fangame. Only small gripe I have about it is, well, the controls I guess. I know Sonic's supposed to be fast, but I wanna be able to control him. Plus, I don't think it helps any that it was made using the Doom engine. Anyway... Sonic may not have been doing that well lately, but I still have hope that Sega will get Sonic back on his fast feet again. |
