If you guys now your cinema history. You'd remember back in 1951, The 20th Century Fox Classic, The Day The Earth Stood Still. One of the many famous old-timie sci-fi's that had a critical reaction to the public. The film was attacked from some quarters, due to Sam Jaffe's participation in the film and his politics. In spite of the images that have passed into popular culture and become clichés; a race of killer robots, a spaceman in a silver suit, a flying saucer etc. The film's explicit message of peace, in combination with its dark outlook regarding human society, has earned the film lasting critical acclaim. Ok, sorry for acting like a film historian. My point is that a remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film is to be released this December. Scott Derrickson will direct a screenplay written by Ryne Douglas Pearson and David Scarpa. |

Sounds interesting. But if it's as much of a classic as you say, I guarantee you there's a dedicated sect of fans outraged over the prospect of a remake. There always is. Depending on what I hear about it between now and December, I might go see it. |

It's a known fact fans hate remakes. I mean, I felt ripped-off with Spielberg's remake of War of The Worlds. With Keanu Reeves as the lead role of this film, I can only hope it turns out okay. |

Ouch. Major turn-off. Keanu's got the acting skills of a block of wood. |

That may play into his favour if he's the alien. Keanu: I came here with a message of peace dudes, but if you ignore it... your world will be reduced to a burned out cinder... excellent! (Air Guitar) OR Keanu: Klatu Brada Nikto Bras... that means I know Kung Fu. Guy: No it doesn't, you're making that s--t up! Keanu: Maybe... but I still know kung fu. Hmm, seeing a B-Movie alien classic being re-done with a guy like Keanu in a leading role... can't say it bodes well. War of the Worlds wasn't a horrible re-make. There were actually some parts that were more likeable about it. The fact it was a divorced Dad trying to keep his family together in the midst of a crisis, not trying to save eveyone just the people he could. Tom Cruise may be.... insane, but he played the part well. And don't worry about sounding like a movie historian Ghetto, I'm a B-Movie geek so I technically sound like that half the time. |

Well, it doesn't sound so much like a B movie so much as an old classic LM. I've always deemed B movies as the low budget films and an old fashioned sort of feel. Cheesy dialogue and plot optional. XP
It bodes pretty badly. Only thing of his I liked was the Bill and Ted movies and the Matrix, to some extent, but the latter still provided plenty of his bad acting. I have to question why he's still given work.
Honestly, I try to judge stars as actors and not as people. I'm not the biggest fan of the paparazzi and how they insist on invading people's lives complete with airing their dirty laundry. Who he is or what he does in real life does not and should not affect my enjoyment of movies, so I take pains to divorce the two when thinking in terms of a film. Keeping to that, I actually think Tom Cruise is a good actor. He's had some great roles in films and I think he's talented. He may be a dick in reality, but at least he knows how to act. Which is more than I can say for Keanu or Vin Diesel. |

I'll admit that WOTW was an ok movie, it's the ending the ticked me off. Tom and the kids go through hell and witness half the the world being destroyed, and it just so happens that the rest of the family is unharmed and their house is completely intact, please. In short, good movie, bad ending. Kinda like Tim Burton's remake of Planet of The Apes. As far as the new cast for DTESS, Jennifer Connelly has signed on to play Helen Benson, and I hear that Kathy Bates (love her work) is in negotiations for a role. That's good new....right?
I agree to that, my family can't stand Tom. Me, I like his work. Muisc stars, however, are a little more harder to pass as humans after doing something completely idiotic. I can name a few, but I believe you guys know of list. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I see it. |

Its not as funny. Reeves should've answered like this. "Whoa... dude... I'm like an Alien... EXCELLENT!" "Your world is like... gonna die... unless... you like... ya know... die first. Bummer huh?" I'm sorry, I've never taken him as a serious actor. |

I was watching The Daily Show, and, when the commercials were on, I saw a trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still. You know what I saw (or rather heard) at the end of that Trailer? "The Only Place where You can Catch the Trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Now, I know that this movie Isn't exactly Highly anticipated, but to use another movie as a way to entice more people into coming? That's just sad. |

I know I'm double posting, but I don't care. I just got back from seeing the movie, and it's actually quite good. Now I just need to get my hands on a copy of the original so I can make comparisons. Spoiler: click to toggle Now, since I work at REGAL, I get to see movies for free. I even save the large cups what comes with free refills. But should you ask me if I would pay to see this movie, your answer would be a resounding 'Yes'. |

Don't worry about having not seen the Matrix. I hadn't watched it all the way through until years after it was out. Around when the third one hit. So it's good eh? That's surprising. Keanu Reeves usually doesn't do all that well with almost any sort of acting. Hopefully it hits DVD quickly. |
