Yes, you did read that correctly. They are doing a movie based on the board game for so many treasured childhood memories of so many arguments over who's going to get the boot. And by they, I mean Ridley Scott. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=20931 This may not be as an insane concept as it first appears. There has been at least one successful board game movie before (Clue), so it may turn out OK. I can just see it all now. It will be a film set in a bizarre world with ludicrous property laws, where people are constantly getting irregular sums of money for beauty contests they didn't enter, and the police's biggest priority, above drugs and gun crime, is unpaid hotel bills. |

I'm shocked. To me, Monopoly is meant and designed to be a board game, not a movie. But how in the world are they going to do a sane plot? |

They'll make anything into a movie now a days. -Monopoly -Alvin and the Chipmunks (creeeeeppyyyy) -Horton Hears a Who -The Smurfs -Halo (that's actually a good thing) Even "Avatar:Last Airbender" by M. Night Shyamalan. May god have mercy on his soul. |

At least horton Hears a Who isn't gonna be live action... freakish and absolutely strange perhaps, but at least its not gonna look like people are wearing stupid make up. M. Night directing Avatar still makes me confused, as to the fact that the good director puts twists at the end of all his movies. Perhaps the Coy Fish being spirits will be enough of a twist for him. At least nothing can be as dumb as Aliens invading a planet made up 3 quarters of a substance which is considered acid to their species. Then again there was the Village. Halo's been briefly put on hold till they can find a studio that will market it however. Smurfs... yeah... thats creepy, Almost as creepy as the chipmunks... but still creepy. Blue Man Group anyone? Monopoly huh? I have an idea what this movie is gonna about. People all complaining about wanting to be the race car, someone getting stuck playing shoe, one more person is unable to pay for a hotel he probably doesn't want to end up in and finally someone goes to jail and doesn't collect $20,000. Of course... it could also a movie about life at an evil corporate power company that sucks the life out of a small town until there is nothing but giant red block houses everywhere. Then everything comes crashing down when they find out the company was taping their conversations about stealing money from grandmothers. Oh wait... that might be too real. |

Hey, I'd buy that. The biggest way they can screw this movie over is if it's around a "Jumanji-like plot". You know, kids get sucked in into a board game and enter a badly run buisness world. |

Psh, we're assuming this ever gets made...odds are it'll spend eternity in development hell. I mean, DBZ and Metroid were both supposed to have movies by now, and I've heard naught about either. |

What. The. Dilly. Yo. Hollywood has officially run out of ideas. About the only reason I'd even look this damn things way is I heard the name "Ridley Scott" in there somewhere, and while that name might not mean much to children, it sure does to me! =P
The first one was never a hell of a lot more then a concept. With Dragonball Z ending and it's popularity dwindling over here, I think that pretty much signed the death knell for it to get any furthur. This is not a bad thing, as the idea sounds rather terrible. The second one officially entered development hell when John Woo dropped from the reins. |

It could be just using the title of Monopoly. It might have nothing to do with the board game at all. Y'know, like Clifford. ... Oh God...that's worse... |

Alvin and the Chimpmunks...The Smurf...if they ever made a movie of those two...that would be just...insane xD Anyhoo. Monopoly the Movie? Well, that sounds...interessting... Ya know, maybe it may not take place in wacky world of business and such. It could be like Jumanji or Zathura. Two kids find an old Monopoly board game in their basement. They decide to play it. When the first dice has been rolled, the game comes to life...in a matter of speaking. Whenever one of them lands in Jail, a policeman will appear at their door to take him/her away. When one of them gets some property, someone is at the door with some deeds and papers and stuff. When one of them owes money, tas collector comes and etc etc. Like Jumanji and Zathura, they'll end up in some crazy adventure. And just like in Jumanji and Zathura, there will be some guy who comes out, he was trapped in the Monopoly world because he couldn't pay the taxes or whatever and the only way to free himself from the clutches of the game is to pay back money or else he's doomed. And the only way to end this game is...well, I dunno >.> They'll have to figure that one out. So, if it's anything like Jumaji or Zathura, I might give it a chance as I really enjoyed those two movie. But meh, who knows. |

wow, I really don't know what to say about that. And just when I thought I would never see anything Smurf related again... Look, I'm not saying that the Monopoly movie is going to be great or anything, but I'm at least going to give it a chance. I'll give all those movies a chance, except for the Smurfs. >_> |

See? This is why I can't wait to take over the film business. I'll bring some real Hollywood ideas. This is proof that writers can't seem to think on their own anymore. You can tell from proof of the Teen Titans, even! People aren't just creative enough anymore, and the people who actually ARE creative enough are too young to do so. Like...the members on this board for instance. I bet there's enough people on this board who can write, act, edit, film, and direct to make a movie that'll have even Steven Spielberg down to his knees. |

Eh, I dunno about Steven Spielberg. One might want to aim a little lower. Peter Jackson sounds good enough to me. =3 Besides, the sad part is good ideas don't sell. Whenever Hollywood does bring out a movie that's got good ideas, the idiotic public votes against it with their wallets. The video game industry has a similar problem. |
