Same trainer that later has that crazy level 80 Pikachu and Snorlax that didn't say a thing at Mt... the-name-I-can't-think-of-at-the-moment? Nuhhh... that had to be Ash.

I'm pretty sure it was different sprites and it was just some random guy. We never saw his Pokemon or who he really was, as he ran off nigh immediatly.

It doesn't really matter either way in the end though.

The one problem with the show is the continuous use of Ash as the main character.

I'd agree with you, but I think it's problems extend far beyond that. The characters themselves can't save the fact that the situations have begun seriously repeating themselves, and that's truely boring. Hence why a lot of fans have since fallen off the wagon with the show. Especially considering how utterly stupid they make most of their main characters. If they never changed that, then there wouldn't be hope for it irregardless.

Eventually, there's a point you just can't do anything more with a show, whether what it's based on is still running or not, and I think Pokemon reached that point a long time ago.

I don't think even a new crew would save the show.

True enough. Though I did think they did an awesome job when it came to the Groudon/Kyogre Hoenn Arc. Maybe a new cast wouldn't help them so much as mixing the formula a bit. A bit more action-oriented, with harder-hitting results, perhaps.

Yeah. Catching a wild Pokemon at a certain level is no match for actually raising a Pokemon to that level. It's partly why people like breeding and raising new Pokemon up from Level 1-5. Stats are higher when you raise one to that level yourself.
