Pokemon was the sh*t ten years ago, now it sucketh, no offense. Ever since they took out Misty the show's been going downhill, for me that is... and that new Dawn girl is so annoying ._.;

I haven't played the games, but my brother has them... it's so annoying to here the little music playing in the background everytime I'm on the computer ><;

Yes, I agree with Cat. Dawn can be a bit of a dork, and May, she wasn't all that bad. I wouldn't mind if they brought her in and kept Misty there. Misty was like my favorite character, maan! And did Ash ever pay to fix her bike? That was her excuse for tagging along, after all. I got busy and didn't see all of it. If he did, then he shouldn't have....*headdesk*

Though by the second half of the first season, she pretty much forgot about it. XD

Though I think Ash did pay for the bike. I don't really remember anything after the Orange Islands.

Honestly, a lot of people tie the show's decline in quality to Misty's departure from the series, but that's far from the problem, or even really much of one to begin with. I sometimes suspect it's partly due to old shippers from the show willingly despising it and not focusing on the true problem of it.

Which has been, sadly, repitition and rampant dumbing down. It's really always been that way, but it's gotten very bad of late. Somwhere around the start of Hoenn, this unbelievably terrible sense of deja vu set in. In the past, you know you had seen similar stuff before in the show, but it didn't fail to entertain, at least, and it wasn't so horribly obvious.

Around the start of the Hoenn stuff, it's repetition became terribly obvious. When you've done basically the same episode with a different setting in the same season of the series, there's a problem. A bad one. I honestly lost interest and stopped watching a little over halfway into the Hoenn stuff, and only caught it on scant occasions since, when there was nothing better on.

That said, I feel holding the show against the franchise as a whole is completely and horribly unfair. At the very least, the games have always been enjoyable and different enough that it seems fresh enough to you that you don't seem to notice that you're doing the same thing you've done four to five times in the past.

It's a timeless formula, really. The game series can continue on. The show, however, needs to stop. Badly.

Nope. Actually, near the tail end of the Johto Journy's, they ended back in Viridian. Her sisters tracked her down, as they were leaving for someplace, and they wanted her to take care of the gym. She originally vehemenantly refused, citing her usual reason of a bike owed. However, as she did that, Jenny (or one of the Joy's, I can't remember, though it really doesn't matter at all) told her they actually fixed her bike near as good as new. There was no more debt. She ran off, crying as I recall, but eventually said her goodbyes.

It's been a while since I saw that episode, but that's the basic gist of it, from what I remember.

Dawn can be a bit of a dork, and May, she wasn't all that bad.

Show fans can be a fickle bunch when it comes to the female member of the group. In general, I've noticed that most of them absolutely refuse to accept anyone else except Misty. May could be annoying, and Dawn too, but they are far from terrible. Misty wasn't exactly the greatest either, being honest. She fit the angry girl cliche to a tee, which can be very played out at times.

I lost interest in the show mainly because I wasn't entertained by the story's much at all anymore, not because of the main female character. But, as many of you know, I'm not exactly your typical person in a lotta ways, good and bad. Views on things being one of them. XD

I have to agree with DL. Holding the show against the franchise is a bit unfair. The series has steadily declined, but that is because they are not trying anything new, or taking an old idea in a different direction. I noticed it too, and I remember watching the original Kanto episodes back in the day.

I was such a Poke-fanatic. *sighs at the good old days*

I still ADORE the games, however. I really want to buy Diamond and Pearl, but don't have a DS, and I'm not sure if I should get one just yet. My favorites would have to be Yellow, because I loved Pikachu to pieces, and Silver, which was awesome in that it let you go back to Kanto and gather those badges. DL's right. They should bring back that formula. That was cool. Sapphire was fun, too, because I finally got to play as a girl, but going back to Johto and Kanto from Hoenn would have been a blast, and the day and night feature would have been near.

I think a DS would be a worthwhile investment Changeling. There isn't really a shortage of good games. Many of them well worth the price of admission alone.

Want something with cool touch screen innovation? Kirby's Canvas Curse will work perfectly, using mainly fluid touch screen controls. Something new and exciting? Trauma Center fits the bill, allowing you to use the stylus as surgical instruments. Fancy flexing your brain? Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney will do the job nicely. Want some strategy? Advance Wars will do it. Want something a bit more traditional? Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are new iterations of a classic franchise, with enough innovation to warrent the upgrade.

And that's just scratching the surface. You won't regret it if you pick up a DS Changeling. I reccomend it. I don't think you'll be dissapointed, as while not every game is a winner, enough are to make it truely worth it.

Are you pitching to me, DL. ^_^

Seriously, I have considered in investing in a DS, simply because I love playing video games, and most of the new stuff goes to the new systems. My Advance is awesome, but maybe it is time for an upgrade...

Well, I'm gonna need some competition once I get a wireless router hooked up in the house and I'm able to battle over Wi-Fi. >=3

But I'm just giving my opinion, truthfully. I got the DS around when it was released, and I haven't been dissapointed by it, so if one speaks of it, I feel the need to praise it. I think you'd enjoy it, and the Advance games work on the DS too.

I love how you can transfer old pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire to Diamond and Pearl just by having a Ruby or Sapphire game in the Advance slot. No other system required. Ha ha!

Hm, I'll have to think about it then. To tell the truth, I'm horrible at deciding whether or not I want something. It's why I'm so hard to buy for. ^_^' Still, the DS sounds cool, and I would like a chance at some new games.

But we should probably get back on Pokemon. I hardly think it's a sin to enjoy it. It's quite addicting, to tell the truth, and I'll spend hours raising up my Pokemon so I can kick butt in the next gym. Beating the Rival character is fun stuff, too.

Pokemon... One my first animes, have you know. I do miss Misty and the ashxmisty-ness. xD I honestly think they shouldn't have made the new episodes. In my opinion.... They're retarded.

But anyway, the most recent pokemon game I've played is Ruby version... Never finished it, though.

I still play Pokemon. DP was a pretty cool game, the games have really come a long way.

I was never really into the shows, though...they just never caught my interest. Except for the new Diamond/Pearl, that Dawn girl is such a ditz. xD

I don't think they anime would have suffered as much in the later seasons if they had stuck to the manga plot.

There's a Pokemon MANGA?!?

Oh yeah, there is. It's a pretty interesting read--basically the characters have the same name as the games--so in the first arc, the protagonist's name is actually Red, not Ash, and the rival is Blue, and so forth. Characters like Emerald and Yellow though, I don't remember much about them, because sadly, they only printed the first third of the series in English.

A really weird thing to do...

Luckily enough, during my trip across the seas I got to nab a copy of volume 16, which is the second book into the Hoenn arc. Here's where my rant REALLY begins.

My main beef similarly to others after introducing May, the show really ran out of ideas (plus AshxMisty was the original, best, and Canon even according to the games ;) ). But that's not what pissed this little fruit off.

They ruined "May"'s character! Sapphire (May) was this kick-ass tomboy WILD chick--I'm saying Wild in the literal sense--she's introduced by swinging onto the scene on a vine, wearing only leaves as cover.

She gets into normal clothes, yeah, like in the game, but because Ruby (Brendan) makes her some. Why? HE'S not a a trainer like she is--HE'S the Coordinator, and totally in love with fashion and cleanliness.

He's a bit effeminate, but that's what makes their relationship so much more amusing and explosive. He calls her barbaric and uncivilized (which results in her picking him up bodily and chucking him), and she sneers at the speed he would pull out his lint roller to groom his pokemon. They have the same rivalry like the previous trainers in the other regions, but she has to get the 8 badges, and he has to get all the ribbons in 80 days (according to their bet).

By the end though, they are teh best canon couple evar (I'm not telling how, in case anyone actually got interested half-way through my rant).

It sticks to the game though, too. The whole Kyogre and Groudon thing goes down, and Gym leaders actually get off their arses and try to save the region/world from the two! Y'know... instead of unrealistically leaving it to two 10 year olds...

But what do they do in the anime...? *cups ears*

They stuck May in as a filler-female character--and do the SAME thing for Dawn. They don't waaaant to be trainers, they have to aspire to be the pretty-pretty-coordinators with random battles in between.

I think Dawn had the coolest design so far, and maybe the ditsy role as a new trainer would be more believable if she wasn't a tag-along... I don't know, but tacking her on as Another coordinator was just lame and lazy. Anything else would have been an improvement.

I would go on more about the manga, like how they actually use pokemon to kill, and Team Rocket wasn't all about Jesse and James but uh... I think I'm slowly veering off topic...

...yes, I can get passionate about this...

Anyhoo! I have Pearl, so nyeh. =P Palkia looked a lot cooler to me than Diagla and besides that, it's always been a personal rule that I get the second of the pairs that come out (Blue, Silver, Sapphire--didn't bother with Leaf Green, but that's what I would've picked).

I've already reached the Pokemon League, but I'm not battling the Elite 4 until after I've trained my pokemon a bit more.

And and and--friend codes would be much appreciated if you are wi-fi connected with Diamond--I'll need an entry for Diagla if I want to get my National Dex so I can import my babies from Emerald--I'll show you/battle you with Palkia in returrrn. *pets cartridge*

You don't need another game cartridge to see the other legendary. The game makers were good enough to not be asshats about that.

However, you're going to have to do a bit of searching to find whatever it is that shows you the other one. That, and you can't do it until after you beat the Elite Four anyways.

And yes, I'm being deliberately cryptic about that. =P

If you refer to the "date" she was on in Gold and Silver, I don't think that was Ash/Red. Trust me, when I actually got up there, I did a double take and thought it was him at first. But after doing it a second time, the sprite looks different. I don't think it's him.

Same trainer that later has that crazy level 80 Pikachu and Snorlax that didn't say a thing at Mt... the-name-I-can't-think-of-at-the-moment? Nuhhh... that had to be Ash.

The one problem with the show is the continuous use of Ash as the main character. That's not saying he's a bad character persay, but that he's a tired character. He's been running since Kanto, and there's only so many times he can be used in the same situations. The one way the creators try to keep him refreshing is through him only keeping Pikachu on his team as he switches regions, but it's problematic and illogical for him to do that (Along with trading in his tried-and-tested team for new pokes), not to mention it doesn't seem to make a big deal in the end, as Pikachu, despite four years of training, can still end up even with a much-less trained Elekid.

The easiest way to refresh the show is to simply have a new male and female protagonist-team whenever they start a new region saga, and perhaps have a cameo here or there with the older characters. The way Ash is used instead of this manner detaches the viewers (I'd say) from the tag-along characters, like Dawn and May. You know they'll be there for the saga, and after that, Ash moves on and gets a new female partner.

I think this is the reason why Chronicles is extremely awesome, as compared to the regular show. Plenty of adventures, but with different characters and therefore generally different flavors of how those episodes lay out.
