"Shrek the Third" came out on May 18. Supposedly, it far surpassed the popularity of Shrek 2 in just one weekend. To tell you the truth, I personally did not like the movie much. Sure, it had good jokes and a steady plot, but it was also too cliche. Arthur is a loser at school, blah, he's another heir, blah...I mean really, how many other stories have used this? How many stories have used the big mean guy eventually warming up to the loser, blah, blah, blah? Honestly. Thoughts from anyone else? |

Well, I'm not really surprised it feels tired and cliche. To be honest, another Shrek movie is a bit out of it's time. The first one was pretty innovative back when it came out, but by now, there's been how many knock off's? It's to the point where the idea's aren't entirely fresh anymore, because by now satirizing fairy tales has become cliche in and of itself. Personally, don't have much interest in seeing the movie. I wasn't as fond as everyone else of the first Shrek and I completely skipped the second. Maybe someday I'll watch it, but that depends on if my mom and sister push to watch it and the second one when it comes out on DVD. |

Honestly, they didn't really targert the movie around the age group of teenagers or twenty year olds. It's a movie for children. I don't have a problem with you guys not being fond of it but it's not really for you. Children's entertainment. |

Yeah, no kidding. But a target age group does not excuse a movie for it's quality or ideas TB. Recent Disney movies and their sequels are a good example. There are midigating factors, but at the end of the day, it doesn't do a whole lot to sway the overall quality of the movie. And for another matter, I don't see things the way you do about childrens entertainment. If it doesn't have a broad appeal, a franchise will not go anywhere or hold up to the test of time. In a film's case, if not particularly memorable, it will do it's time in theaters, get some DVD sales here and there from kids who may have liked it and then drop out of the public eye. If it's not enjoyable for older people too, it won't go very far. The original Shrek's popularity is partly due to it's broad appeal. Yeah, it was aimed for kids, but it was something teenagers and adults could enjoy too, though admittedly I wasn't as fond of it as many. Without that, we probably wouldn't have even seen a third movie. And no matter who it's aimed for, some ideas come to a time where it's just time to take a rest. But on a side note, I never really gave an opinion, as I haven't seen 3. I thought I made that clear. I was just giving general thoughts on the franchise in general and it's place. Some ideas can be great at one time, but afterwards, after numerous imitations, they can become as tired and cliched as the very concepts they strove to be different from. See Grand Theft Auto for a prime example. |

I saw Shrek 3 on Saturday. Personally, I liked the 2nd movie better. A lot better. The music in the 2nd movie was better and the humor amused me more. This time around, it seemed like they were trying a bit to hard. |

It was ok; not very creative and the plot was WAY too cheesy, even for a cheesy movie. 6/10. |

It's alright. No harm done. On a side note, I re-read my post in response to yours, and it seemed a little harsher then I intended it to be, so I apologize for that. Sometimes I don't word things as well as I'd like. It's a problem of mine. |

Haven't seen it yet...Shrek is pretty flexible though, the movies all kind of have their own stories w/ the same characters...they don't really have to follow the same plot as the others. |

I didn't have high expectations so I wasn't let down. However this movie once again failed, the really only good Shrek was the first, this one seemed to lack a good well structured plot. The jokes were dry, boring, and had a "been there, done that" vibe. There were a few parts where I gave a little chuckle, but not on the floor laughter this time. Shrek seems to be loosing his rough, ogre edge and falling more into a soft teddy bear thing that appeals more to children. I think the fact that the 4th is in the works is a mistake, this franchise is just going to fall faster and faster. The only positive perk to this movie was the brilliant animation, it was smooth, detailed, and pleasing to the eye. I give this movie a 4/10, don't expect to much. |

Ooh it's released already? I haven't seen it yet but I would like too. I ain't crazy the Shrek movies but I enjoyed them somewhat. Can't really comment on the third until I see it. I'm the kind of the person who sets aside all the bad qualities and simply try to enjoy the movie (of course this isn't for all movies), so maybe I'll like it, just maybe I won't. They've already got a 4th in the making? O_o |

I just got back from seeing it.. ..."Meh" Is all I have to say about it. It wasn't that great, comparing to the first two. It's something that you would want to wait until it came out on DVD to see. |

Yeah. They do. And a "Puss-In-Boots" movie. No doubt about it, they intend to milk the franchise for everything it's worth and run it into the ground.
I'm the same way, actually. It's likely why I enjoy a lot of movies others seem to hate. I tend to be forgiving when it comes to movies. Still, I can recognize crap when I see it, though. |

Hmmm, I saw it a while ago and I enjoyed it more than the second movie. I guess it depends what mood you're in... or if you're drunk off your arse or something. I'm not implying anything. ;o |
