OK, I've been watching a lot of Star Trek on dailymotion and I've been wondering: What happened to Star Trek? What was once an amazing series of Emmy nominated shows (ST: TOS was nominated for Best Dramatic Series and Best Supporting Actor-Leonard Nimoy{should have won} and ST:TNG was nominated for Best Drama in it's final season, becoming the first syndicated series to be nominated-also should have won) which got large audiences now have people chaning the chanel.
In lamen terms, what killed Star Trek?

You can't really say anything KILLED Star Wars SA. How many people still go to the conventions? To be killed everyone would've dropped the fandom all together. People still like it, there are still new series out. Hell Star Trek Enterprise was a well liked series.

Then again I'm mor of a Warsie anyway so I can't answer your question I suppose.

Well, perhaps killed isn't the word but SOMETHING happened to it! Wrath of Khan was one of the biggest movies of 82 and Nemesis bombed! Star Trek: TOS was groundbreaking and Enterprise was...well I can't think of the words.
Conventions are always a gathering place for ALL ST fans but...I mean it just doesn't have the same impact it did 40+ years ago

I think the quality just dropped. The writers tried to juggle too much--movies, two series at once--and they were spread too thin. It was too hard to come up with good ideas, weekly, for Voyager and still keep DS9 fresh.

But to be fair, most of the blame has GOT to rest with Insurrection.

Yeah. Plus even before it even aired, I just knew that a prequel series wouldn't be a good thing

Ai, there are some nerds who've never even kissed a woman.

All those in this thread who've gotten to third base, raise your hand?

Besides, it's all the nerds who end up making funny tv shows. Look at Simpsons (back when it was funny), Family Guy and South Park. So many references that its hard not to notice
