OK, everyone's heard of this show and the truth is, if it weren't for this show, we probably wouldn't have a lot of good episodes of Simpsons, Family Guy or South Park. So come on Nerds! Share with me, what do you think of the Final Frontier?

First of all, I object to the term "nerd." Applied to me, anyway. Honestly, how many "nerds," are there that would be able to sit through the Super Bowl--which, hey, I am DAMN PROUD of Peyton Manning getting his first ring--and how many "nerds," would be able to trade blows with the Women's Olympic Boxing champion and still be standing afterward?

Ahem.

Of course, I was raised by a breed of super-athletic sci-fi nerds (honestly, my 34 year old uncle could whip half the people I know at...anything sportish) and so know my fair share of Trek. It's in my blood.

I don't count myself as a Trekkie, or a Trekker, or a Trekk...any suffix you want to throw in there. Just a fan. A fan who enjoys the shows and the games and is not afraid to say that Enterprise sucked chow mein noodles.

Gotta love Porthos.

It depends largely on the series for me.

Personally, I thought "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine" were brilliant. DS9 being my personal favorite.

However, I have had trouble with some of them. Enterprise completely failed to catch my interest on every front, and I felt Voyager was very hit and miss.

Then of course there's the movies, which have been largely The Next Generation movies for awhile now. I always thought it was funny that there was an "odd/even" movies "curse". Such seems to have been broken lately.

I'm personally thinking of gettiing some season sets of DS9 and TNG, it's just that they are so expensive. I'll have to use Overstock for these shows. XD

I liked 7. Generations is the first Star Trek movie I can remember seeing in theaters--I was 4.

First Contact holds a special place in my heart though. I saw that on my 6th birthday with my dad who was in town for the day.

The nerds thing was a joke cause all those morons say, "You like Star Trek? You a nerd or something?"
No, I'm just a fan. Did I catch every episode of DS9 and Voyager? Yes. Did I remember most of the storylines? Yes.
Do I have the measurements of Benjamin Sisko's uniform? No. Do I have the command codes to the USS Excelsior? No. Do I know how to override and ODN relay with multiphasic interfacer while also assembling a self sealing stembolt?....NO!
I wasn't a big fan of Enterprise and I've recently discovered how good DS9 REALLY was.
And the captain of the Olympic boxing team I sparred with was a male. No female boxing yet...maybe in the 24th century however

I think by then gender roles will be obsolete and we'll all have co-ed changing rooms.

I need a time machine.

Remember, a DeLorian makes the best time machine al.

I personally liked a lot of the Star Trek movies, but a lot of people keep going on and on about how bad some of them supposedly were. While some of them weren't the greatest, I can't recall ever hating a Star Trek movie. >_>

A DeLoolawuzzle?

I can safely say I hated V. I watched Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphey's RiffTrax version of it, and I laughed the hardest I had in weeks. So funny.

Yeah, Star Trek V was a hard pill to swallow. But I rather enjoyed them., However...just can't swallow Enterprise. Tried but I couldn't

Oh, Enterprise had it's moments. A few good episodes. The mirror universe ones I liked, I did.

Yeah. I give them that because it tied in good with The Tholian Web.
OK, let's get to something that's divided some star Trek fans: The War with the Dominion. Thoughts? Opinions?

I liked the Dominion war arc. It let us see a different, grittier side of the show that fit in well with DS9.

Yes. It was cool to see a war that lasted more than two episodes. Plus, ever since the end of season 2 we knew that the Dominion would be a recurring threat. When Sisko said, "If the Dominion comes through the wormhole, the first battle will be fought here and I intend to be ready," I was 8 and thought that that would be the end until later in season 3 and we encounter the dominion again. But them BAM, enter the Defiant with a badass cloak and weapons system and by the end of that season, DS9 showed that it didn't need the weight of the other treks to hold it up

They did handle the war fairly well. Maybe it was my general immaturity, but I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the Enterprise didn't get a single mention throughout the war.

That's what the books were for.
Honestly, it took me until the middle of season 2 until my dad told me that DS9 was a space STATION and not a starship. That made sense, the design was a bit....clunky. But I think the Dominion and the Defiant saved the ship from becoming dull
