Ever wonder why not many people read your fan-fiction? There are many important aspects you need to know before you start writing a fan-fiction and one of the aspects is the cliches in fan-fictions.

Our latest article by Lizard-Man will help you distinguish the good and bad cliches when writing a fan-fiction, especially when writing a BB/Rae fan-fiction. Once you are able to distinguish them, you may be able to attract more readers to read your fan-fictions.

So start reading and don't forget to share your thoughts on the article here.

I pretty much agree with the article. The cliches that Lizard-Man gives examples of are very similar to what I see when reading BB/Rae fan fics.

Favorite part:

Quote:

Cliche #1: Raven is in emotional distress and cuts herself, Beastboy stops her
I swear to god, this cliche is suck ass.

So true.

I'm fairly certain I mentioned that one to him. Props to Al! *claims props*

Great article, dude.

Oh, gosh. I so agree. I like original stories. There are very few out there, but still. I don't read fanfiction anymore because they all have some of the same things over and over again. I myself agree with Lizard-Man.

I like your articles LM. This one is really good. Alot of the cliches you listed I read in all of them in all of the BBRae fanfics I read. Alot of the stories are repition but I still love em.

Thanks everyone I always wait till a good many people have responded to my articles before I give any feed back. Otherwise I'm just over loading my own thread.

Suicidal fics are horribly cliche, especially if the reason comes from emotion distress caused by a relationship. If a Titan sacrafices him or herself for the greater good then its acceptable, but if its because their depressed its a little hard to beileve. Spider-Man has a billion problems and he doesn't cut himself does he?

Yes Al you did give me that one, thank you for it, also thanks for the "BB gets buff one as well" I had to put that one to rest fast.

Cool I'm part of a scam! All Hail Xenu! (Ze-New) Xenu bless America!

Thanks for the opener Al, I just love using that line

All Fanfics get repeated over time, relax TB. As the South Park Episode "Simpsons did it" proves every idea has been done a million times already. Its the context of how you use the ideas that makes the story original. If somethings remind you of something else then its only natural.

Well then Dragon girl I hope my article inspires you on the right path. Just remember the soul thing.

Thanks Ai, I try to do my homework when it comes to any subject. Unlike a certain documentary I saw that called the Tarzan from the disney animated movie a white supremicist because the apes must of represented the Africans. Explain how that works when we consider Tarzan was in the minority in that movie and he wasn't forcing the apes to do anything at all! Hell he was adopted by apes! If anything Tarzan was basically an ape himself! And if anyone was a white supremicist it was Clayton who tried to trap and enslave the entire ape colony.

Sorry for the Disney rant, I watch all the movies and I know way too much.

Anyway Ai, if you'd like any suggestion on some pretty damn good Fanfics I found, drop me a line. Same with everyone, I'm happy to help anybody satisfy their urge to read original fanfiction.

A very good article, I have read lot of FF with at least some of these cliches, hell even I have use a cloche or two.

I share the opinion of the suicide event, it sucks, come on Raven is too smart to take that way, at least I think is pathetic.

Also this articule gave me some ideas, but I'm not gonna use one of the cliche, I'll make fun of them.

An excellent work LM.

See ya!!

All those cliches I've seen in writting. I have to admit I've done a few, when I was beginner in writing stories >_>.

I hate when they make Raven cut herself. The writers are the ones cutting themselfs and the only way they let out their feelings is by making Raven cut herself. They ruin the whole character...

I have this dislike for stories where Raven talks to her emotions. It ticks me off. I mean, if she does it once or twice then I don't care. But if she constantly talks to them it gets really annoying.

I love and enjoy the Rae/BB/T triangles. They always have drama! And I do love drama in stories, as I am also a drama story writer.

BB get's buff! XD I understand if they make him kinda buff if the story takes place when they're older. But if they're still in their teens then the author shouldn't make him grow 5 inches over night.

"Another fanfic I found stared a guy called Draco as her love interest. (And no Catty its not the Harry Potter Draco)"

DRACO WHERE?! Oh... different Draco... good cause if it was, I'd fight Raven for him anytime >_>.

XD

Overall great article LM ^_^.

As I've said Catty, its' impossible to avoid all the cliches. So you should't feel guilty unless its one of the bad cliches I mentioned.

I'm glad you liked the article catty and I hopw it helps you and others make even better fanfiction in the future or at least helps you improve. And I'm sure Draco would never date Raven, she's too much of a muggle lover and she's half demon. Definetly bad blood in there he doesn't want to associate with.

Cliche #9: Beastboy gets buff
No. No, absoulutely no. Do not even think about this.

Umm....OK, see, is it OK if I show his progress from skinny weakling to buff? And to be fair, he's not some muscle god who weighs 130 and can bench 200. It sort of mirrors me, where I only look buff when not in a sweater or flexing. Is that OK?

EDIT: PS: Did you make that pic of them sleeping? Cause that's good, how'd you do that?

There is a difference between buff and building muscle Shadow. When I say Buff I mean he becomes a mesomorph or something along the lines of what Batman, Supes or possibly even Nightwing. It only counts as buff Shadow if he goes up to a different weight class because he has more muscles now. If his muscles are fairly built because he has been training then its perfectly fine. The whole point about buff means Beastboy would look more like super strong superhero then as what he's suppose to look like. Don't forget he's still a kid he's not going to get rippiling muscles overnight and become Mr. universe. Ectomorphs, like BB, can build muscle tissue and strength they just can't actually LOOK like fitness models. Just a little clarification

None of the art made here was by me. I looked in the BB/Rae fan art profile and found the best suited pics to use. The Drama pic of them lying in bed with ripped clothes fit the angsty section, Gar and Rae under a full moon dancing best suited straight romance. I do not wish to take credit for something I didn't do. Just another clarification for you.

Its good you're asking yourself and others these questions, it shows you can be critical of your own work. Which is a good sign of a great writer or at least a maturing author.

OK, so what I did was right. Good, because the moment I write about Garfield being as strong as Superman or Bruce, I would write how he died a second later of steroid abuse.

It's probably the sign of a person with too big an ego jk

What made you think of writing something like this?

I can field that one.

I wrote a story parodifying the various cliches in the TT fanfiction community--such as the Titans meeting for the first time, the Titans meeting their future children, etc.--and Lizard-Man stole my idea.

All together now: Simpsons did it, Simpsons did it!

Seriously though, where DID you get the idea LM? It seemed a bit, um...random.

(On a sidenote, that fic was banned after the first chapter. Very sad)
