Dude, just because Cartoon Network was the main venue the show was broadcast in DOES NOT mean it was the one that decided whether the show lived or died. That was WB. Cartoon Network is only a subdivision of WB.

WB is merging with UPN. The guys who did Teen Titans actually brought the show to be renewed. So did the Justice League team. Both were shot down. I grieve more for Justice League then I do Teen Titans, which was just a watered down version of what it could have been.

The point is that it really isn't up to Cartoon Network what stays or goes, except for the few home grown shows they have left.

I'm sorry for that. It's just that everyone wants to instantly blame CN for the shows cancellation when it's really WB that has the pull over that, like it did with the Batman shows and Superman. If they don't want it back, they won't bring it back. They decided based on the pitch for the sixth season that they didn't want it back. End of story. Nothing to do with CN.

I just wish everyone realized this before they went to slam CN. They really don't have any damn power here. I want Justice League back more than ANYTHING else, but I don't go blaming CN, as I would be blaming the wrong people.

And with the popularity of the franchise now, there's a chance we may see a future series anyways, hopefully with older Titans and not so kiddified.

And while I'm not really the greatest fan of the show, I am curious as to what Glen has to say about the original plans for season six. I didn't care for it as much as some, but the show was alright. Though if the plans were stuff fans would have REALLY liked to have seen I can imagine a lot of people getting angry and blaming CN again.

I just try to correct and direct the blame in the correct direction. If we're going to get mad at people, it may as well be the right ones.

I'll update with the article as soon as it is released so you all can read what it says.

dl316bh is right, the show was cancelled by the creators, hence the reason Glen Murakami is speaking out about why they made the decision to cancel it. At least we'll finally get the answers from the people who actually know what they're talking about rather than mere speculation from fans.

I did it's just the fact that I have the attention span of a rubber duck so I read most of it but I'm really not supposed to be on TBRS just now, I'm supposed to be doing my homework, so I just skimmed everything and tried to make sense out of it in my tiny brain... >.<

I've read the full thing this time and I take back what I said about CN.

I hope there will be an older version of it. That would be cool =)

Don't worry about it. It's just I went to the trouble of typing all that up on the first page too to avoid slamming CN over this, and I thought you ignored it.

Not to worry. And I would LOVE an older version. I say screw Legion of Superheroes, get Bruce Timm and Paul Dini (the guys responsible for Batman: TAS) and give us an older version of the Titans. If it were Timm and Dini doing it, it would be the more mature Titans show I would love to have seen.

OK, we know that they didn't want to cancel it but I just don't understand why. I mean, the show was a gold mine. Kids and adults-I am 19 after all-enjoyed it. This is one of my favourite animated series. Nothing will ever beat B:TAS though

Actually, it was mostly popular with kids. You are right though, some adults enjoyed it too. But I can inform you with confidence that none of the comic readers are really too awful broken up about it being cancelled. There's reasons behind that too, mostly backlash from the changes made in the AS. Case in point, anyone who followed the comics can see what happened to Slade, and it's pretty much the fault of the AS, due to editors trying to connect things with the Animated Series in hope of drawing readers, which truthfully never really works. I could name more too, like the costume changes just recently.

Actually, high ratings have been proven not to do a damn thing if merchendise isn't selling very well. I'm not saying this is the case with Teen Titans, but it was with Batman Beyond. Batman Beyond had very high ratings, but from what I understand the merchendise wasn't selling up to their expectations. So the plug was pulled, which pisses me off far more than any other cartoon series cancellation considering the potential it was really taking advantage of.

I have no clue if it's the case with Teen Titans, but I just figured I'd point out that even high ratings can't save a show if it isn't bringing in big dollars all around. Near as I can tell, CN didn't want to get rid of it. Both teams (Justice League and Teen Titans) took the next season proposals to the new higher ups in the merger who were deciding what stayed, and were both turned down.

And your right about Batman: TAS. Nothing will ever top it. It's so well beloved that even people out east love it to death. You know the anime Cowboy Bebop? The episode Pierott Le Fou was one great big homage to Batman: TAS, said straight from the directors mouth. You look at the main villain there, Tongpu, and the overall feel of the episode and you will get what I'm talking about. Just compare Tongpu to some Batman villians, you'll see the similarities easily enough.

Teen Titans was cancelled due to business. That's all it ever is and all it ever will be. Even shows in their peak and at their best will be cancelled if the high ups don't feel it's making enough money to be worth it or if they just don't care to bring it back.

Unfortunatly it's the way of the beast. While there's exceptions to the rule, like Family Guy, it isn't often which is quite unfortunate in some cases. Each day brings less chance of a sixth season.

We just have to hope we get another series in the future, hopefully with older Titans, truer to the comic's and a bit more serious this time. With the Animated Series popularity, I'm sure there will be another down the pike eventually. It just won't likely happen for a few years.

I probably don't speak for everyone, but I would NOT watch a show like that. If Teen Titans does come back, it had better be like the animated series I love, with younger Titans and the comic sillyness that made the show special.

If they did a show closer to the comic, I would be EXTREMELY ticked off.

And that is exactly where we differ. Teen Titans was far too kiddified to me, as they made Slade a complete 2D bad guy instead of the gray character he's been for going on twenty years, which has affected the comics, the characters were actually butchered, and it was pretty much a mess. It was enjoyable yes, but after I got into the comics, I saw it for what it actually is.

Batman and X-Men proved you don't have to pander to younger kids or be silly to make a popular show. When I was about ten is when these were popular, and they didn't try to be toned down to ridiculous levels. In other words, it wasn't like the Adam West version. And you see, thats my problem with the animated series. Not only is it a wacked out series that doesn't really fit in the DCAU, but it wasn't what it could have been. Truthfully, the BBxRae moments were all that kept me watching the show before I got into the comics. And when I was teetering on the comics for fear of it being similar, it was only DeTroyes, his descriptions and scans that got me to try it. And now that the Animated series is causing a backlash on certain parts of the comics.

A kiddified Teen Titans would never have some characters in it like Matt Logan, who was a fun loving character that made a more mature Gar the straight and narrow man. With a two dimensional Slade strictly as a bad guy, we wouldn't have the moment where Slade himself is the one who makes Beast Boy believe in himself and tells him he's one of the better Titans. This was after Terra mind you, and Slade consoles him. Show Slade would never do that or have that kind of complexity and honor code. He'd just be a villain, plain and simple. No gray. He wouldn't be doing whatever he does because of a job and the honor code to complete it, he'd do it for fun and be the equivilent of an Eco-terrorist, which is what he basically is in the show. A kiddified Teen Titans would never have anything even close to comic Brother Blood. With show Terra they did exactly what one would expect them to do, have her bad but turn good at the end, which was opposite the purpose of Terra, who was supposed to show that some people don't need a real reason to hate or fight people. It was Marv's purpose with her in the comics to show a character whose fate wouldn't conform to the cliche last moment turnaround. And this was stuff kids bought too.

I take the show for what it is. A kids show that was marketed that way and made to be that way. I think it's alright, but again, shows kids watch don't have to act like kids won't understand more serious stories. And the only time Teen Titans was ever silly in comic history was in the 60's, when everything was silly. It wasn't even the five you know from the show. The fab five there was Wonder Girl, Robin, Aqualad, Speedy and Kid Flash. They mostly helped kids with problems in neigborhoods. Comparing Marv's stuff, which the show was based on, to the show will show stark differences.

I'm not saying the show wasn't enjoyable or you have to feel the same way as I do. Please don't take it that way. You like it, I don't. If it weren't for the fact that it's affecting the comic I wouldn't care. I like the kind of stuff that Justice League and Batman were, not something like what Teen Titans was. I'm borderline neutral on it and have more reasons than what I've listed to dislike it. I felt a need to show some things that were watered down or changed in the series for an example, because most people here aren't even familiar with the comics that spawned it. I also feel there are enough kiddified shows out there.

But this also may be because I grew up with kids shows that didn't give me watered down storylines or what could have been, so my expectations are higher and different.

Actually I'm being an idiot right now for detailing this on a site that pretty much loves the cartoon and doesn't really care for the comics, so I'll wrap this up.

Again, I thought it was all right, but didn't care for it as much. You like the silly version, I would like a more serious series that didn't diverge so much and cause backlash to try and entice show fans to pick the comics up, which rarely works.

You like it, I didn't really care for it. But I felt the need to show you my position in this.

Let's just agree to disagree.
