OK, no one has posted here in a while but I've made a discovery. And that is Cowboy Bebop.

Granted I'm sure most of you have heard of it and now what its about yet only recently have I grown addicted to this group of bounty hunters. I heard the title of the show and thought it would be some lameass show about a singing cowboy or something but someone played the theme music (THE THEME MUSIC!) and I was hooked. Had no idea what it was about, but I had to watch it and I'm glad I did.

Only complaint about the show: Radical Edward. Yeah, a chick named Edward-way to make gender confused kids even more confused. Where do I start with this character...how about the fact that she/he's useless, annoying, does nothing, contributes nothing, wastes energy, air, food, resources and speaks in the third person.

It's like having Elmo onboard except Elmo's high or something. Seriously, I think Ein (the dog) contributes more to Bebop than her/him. How Spike is able to restrain himself from killing her in her sleep is beyond me.

To make a long story short: Great series, great characters (with one exception), great music, great stories and lastly, I want to throw Radical Edward out the nearest airlock
I always hope for the best...experience unfortunately has taught me to expect otherwise

If we're bringing back the anime thread, then everybody can have a nice big dose of Gurren Lagann.

I see a scantily clad anime babe and a giant robot. I don't even need to see the trailer. This intrigues me.

I've been singing this shows praises for years. It's simply the best thing to come out of Japan since Akira. Period.

I've been singing this shows praises for years. It's simply the best thing to come out of Japan since Akira. Period.

And Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the best thing to come out of Japan since Cowboy Bebop. Full Stop.

I mean, here's just a few exerpts from TVTropes of awesome moments:

Quote:

Kamina's introduction in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Followed rapidly by him picking a fight with a giant robot, on foot, with only a katana.

Quote:

The entire fight between Simon and Lord Genome can be considered a Lensman Arms Race in Badassery. Every time Simon uses Heroic Resolve to get the upper hand, Lord Genome promptly smack him down again only for Simon to get back up again, more determined than before. The whole thing culminates in Lord Genome beating up Lagann bare-handed, while his head is on fire

Quote:

Simon and Viral's Big Damn Heroes moment is so awesome that the awesomeness of their presense, by itself, causes an entire army to explode.

Quote:

Arc Gurren-Lagann Megaton Punching an enemy Mugan so hard it smashes a hole in the very fabric of space-time, into which the Mugan falls and promptly explodes.

Quote:

Simon cuts through time and space, teleporting halfway across the planet just in time to stop Rossiu from killing himself. He tears Gurren Lagann through a wall, ejects himself from the mech, flies forward for at least a good hundred feet, probably much more, at a massive speed, leans back, and punches Rossiu in the face so hard that the rubber band holding Rossiu's hair back explodes.

The robots are powered by how AWESOME the pilot is, I mean... come on! Not to mention the music, the characters, hell, the EVERYTHING.

Oh, and did I mention that by the last episode, the mechas are so big they're throwing galaxies at each other like shurikens.

And while we're on the subject of anime in general, THIS is the best dub opening ever.

I'm gonna have to give this a shot. It sounds pretty cool. Plus it has giant robots, which rarely disappointes.

Neon Genesis Evengalion being one of those rare instances. I'm still sorry I took that one persons reccomendation. Started out decent and then went so horribly wrong.

Cowboy Bebop, to me, is one of the most greatest animes ever! Everything about it is just...brilliant.

I only pray that one day we will be able to see more of it.

I found Ed's character to be quite funny actually though very radical...as named so xP She did come in use when it came to finding out information and such with that laptop of hers.

A new anime I discovered quite a while ago was Trigun. Like Cowboy Bebop, I though Trigun was brilliant as well.

I recomend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Before I got to watch it, I thought Vash was a serious but cool, no-nonsense kind of guy, but man, when I saw the first episode, I was unable to stop laughing even after the episode was over xD

I simply adore Vash's character x3 And Wolfwood! Oh my God that dude is just too awesome...

I am so totally excited for the Trigun movie coming out in '09 8D

At the anime convention in our capital city, I won a DVD of Kodocha, which was autographed by Laura Bailey. Sadly, the autograph is on the outside plastic, so I can't open the DVD without ripping up or damaging the autograph. WHAT THE HELL IS KODOCHA ANYWAYS???

Spice and Wolf

Plot Summary: Craft Lawrence, a 25 year old peddler travelling from town to town selling and buying various things to make a living during a period much like Europe in the Middle Ages. One night when stopped at the town of Pasroe, he finds in his wagon a 250 year old pagan wolf deity girl named Holo. She appears to be that of a 15 year old girl, except for a wolf tail and ears. She introduces herself as the town’s goddess of harvest who has kept it blessed with good harvests of wheat for many years. Despite having the responsibility to watch over the town, she wants to go back to her homeland in the north called Yoitsu, she believes the people have already forsaken her anyway and that she has kept her promise to maintain the good harvests. She manages to bargain her way out of the village by making a deal with Lawrence to take her with him. As they travel, her wisdom helps increase his profits, but at the same time, her true nature draws unwanted attention from the church.

Personal comments: Well, i got into this series while it was still airing in Japan(January '08-March '08) And although it's slow and a different kind of anime for those used to fast paced action, it's got a good story in it's own right. Plus Horo and Craft are meant for each other :D

Now and then, here and there

Plot Summary: Shu is a typical Japanese boy, but has an unbeatable, optimistic and determined attitude. However, when he sees a mysterious girl with strange eyes named Lala-Ru up on a smokestack, he is soon pulled into a strange desert world. Shu soon discovers the true terrors of war, which includes genocide, brutal torture, hunger, thirst, and child explotation. Now Shu is trying to save Lala-Ru, as well as his hard earned, and often relunctant, new friends from the insane dictator, Hamdo. Whether Shu can possibly accomplish saving those he cares about while still holding up to his values remains to be seen.

Personal comments: I just got into this because they were showing it on Sci-fi, and it looked insanely good. I've only seen like 3 episodes, and they were all good.

The Gokusen

Plot Summary: Kumiko “Yankumi” Yamaguchi enters Shirokin Gakuen Private School to become a math teacher. She’s assigned as the homeroom teacher for class 2-4, populated by a gang of delinquents. But what the school doesn’t know is that she’s the heir to the Oedo Group, a powerful Yakuza clan. So while Yankumi struggles to excel in her career as a teacher, she must also keep her Yakuza background a secret.

Personal comments: Anime rarely makes me laugh out loud. Like ever. This one, oh my god, from the few episodes i've seen, It's LOLARIOUS.

El Cazador De La Bruja(The Hunter of the Witch)

Plot Summary: Ellis, a young girl suspected of murdering a prominent physicist Heinrich Schneider, is on the run from prosecution when she is tracked down by a female bounty hunter Nadie in a small Mexican town. However, instead of turning her in, Nadie impulsively decides to help her and the two embark on a journey south where they hope to find clues about Ellis’ past. The guiding stars of their journey are the mysterious gemstone “Rosa del Inca” and the “Eternal City” of Wiñay Marka.

Personal Comments: This is a Yuri anime, but...not much happens, Yuriwise. But it's still a good story. And it's fun to watch.

Wolf's Rain

Plot Summary: In some distant future, it’s common knowledge that all wolves have been extinct for 200 years. However, it seems this is false as wolves have not disappeared but rather have taken human form. Kiba, a lone wolf, wanders into a city, trying to sniff out the Lunar Flowers that are supposed to lead whoever follows the scent to paradise. The source of the smell is Cheza, a girl who sleeps in what appears to be suspended animation in a lab. She and the wolves are drawn to each other, and Kiba hopes to find paradise once he finds the source of the scent of Lunar Flowers. However, once Kiba finds Cheza, she is kidnapped by a mysterious person called Darcia, and his search begins anew. Before he leaves the city, he meets 3 other wolves, Tsume, Hige and Toboe. All four wolves have very different personalities and ideas, and their friendliness towards each other is a little rough around the edges. However, they soon band together to continue to search for paradise.

Dragonaut: The Resonance

Unfortunatly i have no links to vids. But i remember i watched it on Veoh, so go check there.

Personal Comments: This show is like a mixture of Digimon and Gundam. That's the feeling i got. But, that being said, it is a great show.

Since SA bought up Cowboy Bebop to this thread, I'd thought I'd bring up Shinichirô Watanabe's (director of Cowboy Bebop) next best thing:

Samurai Champloo

Posted Image

From left to right: Jin, Mugen, and Fuu

This awesome series is interwoven with revisionist historical facts and anachronistic elements of mise-en-scene, dialogue and soundtrack. The shows most frequent anachronism is its use of elements of hip hop culture, particularly rap and the music it has influenced, break dancing, turntablism, hip hop slang, and graffiti. Normally, hip hop and rap drive me nuts, but the series makes it work.

Plot:
Samurai Champloo is about the journey of a girl named Fuu and her two bodyguards / traveling companions, Mugen and Jin, as they travel across Edo era Japan in search, at the girl's behest, of a particular "samurai who smells of sunflowers".

Akira...I watched last December and while it was amazing to look at...story wise I kept scratching my head at some point

It's one of those films that requires more than one viewing to get the full gist of. It's a pretty remarkable achievement in some ways; biggest of which is how every concept and theme from the original manga is somehow represented within the film. Eventually, the film ends up making perfect sense. But again, it's not something you'll get in one viewing. XD

Don't know if it's true, but word is that Warner Bros. has signed a deal to create two live-action movies based on Akira, with Leonardo DiCaprio helping to produce the films and Akira's creator, Katsuhior Otomo, being on hand as the executive producer.

SOUL EATER :D CHYA-HOOOO~!!!!!

Care to explain a bit about the series rather than spamming the thread with a picture and a capslocked fangasm?

This is a discussion thread, after all. Please and thank you.

@ Jaki: The only anime I've seen/heard of on your list is Wolf's Rain, and that's an absolutely beautiful series. I've only got a few DVDs here and there, but the last episode had me in tears, really. The whole plot is fantastic, yet sad.

Gaaahh, you make me want to rewatch what I have and use my av/sig set again. <333
