My science teacher said it would cause all businesses and basically normal life to shut down from everyone being afraid of how contagious it was.

Well, all those people who say Bush is the biggest terrorist around now have a new target. Birds are the biggest terrorists in the world. Wiping out 1/3rd of the human population? Damn, that's harsh.

By the way, is anyone else curious as to why all of these new diseases come out of China (or anywhere in Asia). SARS and now this. Come on. Something's not right in China. I just read an article that said a girl got bird flu from KISSING a turkey! God...the Chinese are supposed to be so smart-according to stereotypes- and they go kissing the very thing that kills them. Huh...

Why is the U.S. always the last to know about all these foreign flus? Argh.

I can't really say much since I haven't heard anything about it. Care to explain what's going on?

Well, in China, our feathered friends seem to be giving the people a disease and it's killing them.

Because stereotypes are so cool in the first place, and everyone likes making out with their livestock

China has definitely been messed up in some ways for years, but that last part you said...bugs me. Can I have the link to this article you mentioned, by any chance?

Avian flu is pretty old news, really. It's a virus that started amongst the birds (migratory, which spread into the poultry), and there were cases popping up of humans catching them from exposure, like as in people who work in chicken farms in close contact. I don't think they have confirmed that it can be contracted human-to-human, and seems just a tad exagerated.

I've browsed through a few articles in some reliable online databases (Facts on File, is one of them) and it seems like there are some skeptics.

I'm a freak about knowing where source material comes from, where did you hear this statistic?
Shhhhhh...

I can't find the article anymore. It was on the Drudge Report and he's always got stories popping up replacing the old ones. Sorry, but I did read it.

PS: Sorry if I offended anyone with my earlier comments about stereotypes.

Hey I was offended by that, I'm part Chinese here! :slade:
But I forgive you.
But I do have to admit those diseases are from China. But the girl kissing a turkey.. probably not true. The press gets wrong info sometimes (like the mining incident a while ago). Hey it couldv'e been the turkey giving her a kiss.
The reason why we should be scared is because the disease could be spreaded by the person infected moving to country to country or if a bird somehow flies across to a different country. :scared:
I have an Avian Flu article in my bathroom and I'm glad to share it soon.

Oh yeah, trickster we are going to be Rogate buddies for this topic right?

I think this is being blown way out of proportions. Remember SARS 3 years ago? I have a feeling this is going to be just the same type of deal. We aren't going to lose 1/3rd of the population. I honestly think that most of the fatalities will be in Asia.

Exectly.

Remember the "Bactlic Plague" a couple years back? That was bad in it's time and it disappeared once it appeared. I'm not afraid and we will find a way to destory it. I'm thinking postive about this, not negative. Sorry but Asia gets all these bad things because they're not clean like we are! And the world is cleaner since the Middle Ages.

I haven't seen one report about this flu on T.V. and I've actually been scanning almost all the news stations.

It's probably another media trick to get us to panic. Well, I'm not falling for it.

You can catch it on Fox News Channel, Jason. That's where I get my news nowdays since 2001. So you can catch the news about it there. It's a big help.

Yeah, I go to Fox News as well. Or I'll also go to CNN. Not really any new news about it. I don't think it's as big as people are making it out to be. The truth is, this is the new SARS.

Most of China's population right now is going through poverty and people are working at sweat shops. I'm not surprised that it is "dirty" there. If people are poor how do you expect them to keep the place clean, or even buy drugs.

A kid in my class had a report about the Avian Flu today and already 3 people died and 23 people have it in Turkey. From China to Turkey I think the disease is spreading.
