Rescued by the very people they called occupiers.

I'm not sure if anyone in here watches Bill O'Reilly but I caught his talking points memo yesterday and it showed GWB almost tearing this White House Reporter a new one. Bush really did a good job of taking her down. She kept trying to interrupt him and asked dumb questions like, "What was your REAL reason for going to war."
I can't find a transcript and the video is gone but it was a great thing to see.

Maybe she wouldn't have kept asking if he had just given a straight answer the first time.

And "What was the real reason for going to war?" isn't really a dumb question. There was all sorts of media interference in Bush's reasons, so asking him face-to-face was probably the best way.

I'm going to let that slide because I don't believe you saw the clip Al. Bush was answering honestly he was giving his reasons and she tried to interrupt him at least 5 times and on the fifth time he seemed to be annoyed by that. It wasn't about being straight, it was about Helen Thomas not shutting her mouth and listening to the answer of the question she asked.

Helen? I thought it was Ellen...I guess I misheard.

I think Helen was interrupting because she didn't know he was finished. Either way, it was rude.

So. Back on topic.

Does anyone think that with the 3 hostages rescued that things might be getting better in Iraq and that the insurgents might be losing their ground?

No. Last time I checked, three hostages being rescued does not cause tens of thousands of terrorists to suddenly keel over and die.

That...wasn't what I meant...but that's your understanding of it. I mean, do you believe that the insurgents are losing or that the threat from them is the same as it was before.

BTW, I heard that those 2 Canadians and the Englishman who got resuced are blaming their kidnapping on the Coalition. Nice...I mean, when you go to a dangerous country, preaching Christianity to Muslim Extremists, it's the people who are trying to stop them who are to blame.

Well, they were saved but their American campanion was executed by the terrorists after they were captured. 3 were released as was the reporter Carrol from the Christian Science Monitor, though her translator was killed as well. I haven't heard anything from the woman who was rescued yesterday but I'm upset that the Canadians rescued are blaming the coalition for their capture. It is irresponsible and possibly dangerous.
What do you people make of the recent rescue of hostages in Iraq?

I think that the recent hostages should be more grateful than what they are. The majority of them anyway. They should be thankful that they weren't killed.

Well, Jill Carrol seems to be grateful. She has come out and called her captors, "Criminals at best." She's absolutely right.

Although I do not agree with Bush, I also do not agree with some countries' views on America thinking we're the "school bully" of the world.

We only invade and try to grab control of countries who report to our leaders that they want us to die or be destroyed. We have a right to protect ourselves, don't we?

Jason, it makes me so happy to know that there are people that do not agree with GWB or his administration but do not see us as invaders or us being 'the school bully' of the world.

Except that Iraq hadn't expressed that view to us. Pakistan however (Oh wait, that's an ally)...

I didn't know if I should posted it here or Politics...so I flipped a coin and this thread won...

Basically for the past few weeks, I've been hearing about this protest group, from the Westboro Baptist Church, who go to funerals of fallen US soldiers from Iraq and say horrible and cruel statements about America and the soldiers. They say that the solders are there to fight for "F** America/Nation", they hold up signs saying "America is Doomed" & "Thank God for Dead Soldiers", and they also step on American flags, and these are a few things that they say to the families. This issue has been disturbing the families and friends of these fallen soldiers for the past nine/ten months and the protesters continue to not stop their actions.

But there is a group, called the Patriot Guard Riders, who go to these funerals, and block the hateful and vile words and signs out from the Westboro protesters. Also, as of lately...many states have been recognizing these protesters and try to make laws that will try to move these protesters farther away from the funerals and let the grieving families grieve without outside disturbances. But no matter what legislation do, they will still protest and say these cruel words to grieving families.

You can read this article from ABC News/Good Morning America here and if you see a video clip, you can view it if you want (I would recomend that you do so you understand better) but be warned because there are some words said, from the protesters, that are really offensive and hateful...you have been warned.

Any opinions?
