Napalm Death Origin: Birmingham, England Genres: Death Metal , Grindcore Status: Active Website: http://www.enemyofthemusicbusiness.com/ Napalm Death is one of the founding fathers of grindcore, that subdivision of death metal consisting of very short, very fast, chaotic blurs of noise(In fact ND are in the Guiness Book of World Records for the world's shortest song: "You Suffer" at 1.12 seconds). Their debut album, Scum, is a landmark in the field, but is also notable since not one, not two, but three different members left after that album and formed enormously influential and successful bands in their own (these being Bill Steer, who founded Carcass, Lee Dorrian (Cathedral), and Justin Broadrick (Godflesh)). (I'll have these up soon) By 1990's Harmony Corruption a largely different lineup was in place (in fact, soon after the band had completed a complete makeover, with no remaining original members), and while the focus slightly shifted from grindcore to death metal, they still set standards for brutality in extreme music. The later nineties showed the band almost in thrash mode, but following their split from Earache Records, they have returned (at least in part) to their grindcore roots. MEMBERS: Mark "Barney" Greenway: vocals (see also Benediction) Mitch Harris: guitars Shane Embury: bass (see also Brujeria, Lock Up) Danny Herrera: drums former members Lee Dorrian: vocals (see also Cathedral) Bill Steer: guitars (see also Carcass, Firebird) Justin Broadrick: guitars (see also Godflesh, Head Of David) Jesse Pintado: guitars (see also Lock Up, Terrorizer) Nik Bullen: bass/vocals Jim Whitely: bass Mick Harris: drums (see also Praxis) Albums: Scum 1987 Earache From Enslavement To Obliteration 1988 Earache (EP) Mentally Murdered 1989 Earache Harmony Corruption 1990 Earache (EP) Mass Appeal Madness 1991 Earache Death By Manipulation (compilation) 1991 Earache Utopia Banished 1992 Earache (EP) Nazi Punks **** Off 1994 Earache (all sales $ from this release go to fund anti-Nazi organizations) Fear, Emptiness, Despair 1994 Earache (EP) Greed Killing 1995 Earache Diatribes 1996 Earache Inside The Torn Apart 1997 Earache Words From The Exit Wound 1998 Earache (EP) Leaders Not Followers 1999 Dreamcatcher Enemy Of The Music Business 2000 Dreamcatcher Order Of The Leech 2002 Dreamcatcher Leaders Not Followers: Part 2 2004 Century Media The Code Is Red ... The only time I've ever seen or heard Napalm Death was on that Beavis and Butthead episode "Killing Time." Butthead said the lead singer sounded like his voice doesn't actually come from his mouth?
