Sepultura
Origin: Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Genres: Death Metal, Thrash Metal, World Metal (Roots)
Status: Active

Sepultura has risen from rather humble beginnings (their early albums being pretty basic affairs) to become one of the most well-known death/thrash metal bands of all time. During the band's definitive period (Beneath The Remains through Chaos AD) their potent mix of death and thrash metal gained them worldwide acclaim. They also showed they were willing to grow and develop new styles, as their other seminal work, Roots, mixed tribal rhythms and a slower, more down-tuned style with the aggression of their earlier albums.

In early 1997, a rift developed between guitarist Max Cavalera and the other members, apparently due in part to Max's wife's involvement with the band as a manager. Max left the band and formed Soulfly, while Sepultura carried on, recruiting a new vocalist by the name of Derrick Greene, and have released three albums since Roots (the latest being Roorback, released in May 2003), continuing their popularity as a metal force.
