OPETH
by BNR Metal

Origin: Stockholm, Sweeden
Genres: Progressive Metal/ Death Metal
Status: Active
Website: www.opeth.com

Loosely labelled a death metal band, Opeth is really so much more, with their mix of mid-paced riffing, acoustic guitar interludes, and frequent tempo and mood changes continuing to push the boundaries of extreme music. Opeth write long songs (often over ten minutes long), but the diversity of the songwriting keeps things interesting. The phrase "progressive death metal" has been used before, but it probably fits Opeth better than any other single band. While the earlier albums are undeniably more brutal in their approach (and often regarded as fan favorites) it's the later releases, starting with 2001's Blackwater Park, where all the pieces truly fit together. An outstanding band.

Well, you ain't gonna hear them on the radio, but if you have a music downloading service you should get "By the Pain I see in Others" off of the Deliverance album. It's my favourite song, but if youdont like songs over 7 min. they might be a detriment.

But they are awesome and if your bored with what radio and MTV forces dow your gullet, these guys are some kind of wonderful different. I'd suggest getting one of the albums from 2001 and on. What do you got to lose, except $13 if you dont like them...
