From the cover of a clump of rocks, a small detachment of archers loosed an aimed volley at the necromancer, while Captain Paln ordered his troops forward. There were eighty of them, moving forward quickly and efficiently in two groups, coming up on either side of the two mages meeting beneath the tree. |

Daemmion's defences took the impact from the spell, having been maintained since before the Mage Lord arrived. As soon as the man had launched his spell Daemmion had begun conjuring his own. At the moment he hit the tree, his spell was ready. Purple mist shot from the top of his staff and into the minds of the advancing soldiers. A handful recoiled as their eyes were consumed by an eerie glow and they watched with horror from within themselves as their arms moved their weapons to attack their fellows. The soldiers were forced to stop their advance to deal with their maddened comrades. Next, Daemmion's form shimmered and became ethereal; the Weissland arrows passed through him harmlessly to strike the ground. When the hail had passed, he became solid once more and struck the Mage Lord with a blast of necromantic energy, the magic strengthened and infused with all the power he had taken from the lich in the Defiled Kingdom. The Mage Lord was knocked to the ground, staggered by the new-found power behind Daemmion's spells. "If there are any left in Weissland that would see an end to this conflict then send them to discuss terms." he said venomously. "But if your armies advance against Odelen, I will put its people to the sword, burn the city to the ground and vanish before you can even hope to reach the walls. That much, I promise you." His form again shimmered before breaking down to dust and disappearing from the scene. Daemmion's teleportation did not take him all the way back to the city; he did not have enough time to prepare such a spell. He had seen the soldiers hiding, waiting like vermin for the time to strike, yet in truth the Mage Lord's attack had taken him by surprise. He had not expected it to be so sudden. But Weissland attempted to stab him in the back, whereas he had honoured the agreement. They would remember that. With the tree far behind him in the distance and Odelen before him, he began making his way back to his stronghold. --Leaving Meeting Spot-- --Entering Odelen-- |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

Boralays stood and sheathed his sword in a slow, disciplined motion. He said calmly, almost to himself "He is stronger than last time, that will complicate things. His threats are poor, his kind do such regardless and we cannot allow the undead to exist. If he puts Odelen to the sword his followers will die regardless, he cannot spirit away an entire army." |

"I am sorry, my Lord," said Paln, confused and seemingly hurt at what had happened; clearly he felt as if his honor had been compromised since his troops had not succeeded. |

Boralays turned to him and said "This is my fault. I should have picked up on his increased power before the fight. Whatever dark means the necromancer used to become so powerful, it will not avail him if we remain strong of heart. Remember, Weissland steel does not tarnish." With a grim smile Boralays concluded "We will just have to do this the hard way. We need to scout Odelen and get some idea of the strength of the enemy force. I'd suggest sending most of your men back to Aelendak, Captain." |

"Yes, my Lord," said Paln with a bow, and he moved off to carry out the order. |

Left alone for the time being Boralays turned to look off in the direction of Odelen. He should have seen the necromancer's power, he should have been ready for it. He thought, I saw the deception when I contacted the Queen, why did I not see what was staring me in the face here? I should have anticipated, a binding spell, something to prevent him fighting back. He had been took involved with the back and forth debate, forgetting what the risks were. He had talked of not being tricked by the necromancer, but in a way he had been. The distraction had led him to underestimate his opponent and not strike hard enough. |

Returning, Captain Paln asked, "My Lord, what is your plan? I have prepared my men to move out, but I do not think we should move to Odelen with a smaller group than this, or even on foot." |

Yes, caution, that was what was needed here. Boralays needed to think with a cool head, not get swept up in fixing mistakes and anger. He replied "Indeed, Captain. We will all return to Aelendak for the time being. To mount a proper scouting mission will require planning, supplies, and horses. Let us go." He motioned with his staff back in the direction of Aelendak. |

Captain Paln nodded, relieved that the mage lord had reconsidered. He formed the men up and began the march back to Aelendak. --Leaving Meeting Spot-- --Entering Aelendak-- |

Boralays took one last look around the area and then mounted the horse he had arrived on. The mage lord trotted off after the soldiers. --Leaving Meeting Spot(Lone Tree)-- --Entering Aelendak-- |
