--Entering from Borrton Village-- The attack on Wehnfield would be difficult compared to Borrton. It was the centre for a farming community. While the farms were large and sparse for troops, the village was quite heavily populated. Unfortunately after the ground levelled out about a mile south of Wehnfield it was flat and open. They would be seen sooner, and a defence could be mounted. Sindrila had come up with a plan to counter that though. The necromancers would raise a thick fog to cover their advance. Rather than just whipping it up though, the two necromancers would bring it in slowly so the villagers would think it was natural. Once they got to the edge of the village proper, the fog would drop and the village would be overrun before the people could react to seeing the raiding force within striking distance. She said "Begin your work." The necromancers bowed and spoke the words to a spell, one after the other. Their hands raised in the air the necromancers worked and the fog began to form, first around their feet and then further and higher and thicker. As it started to move in on Wehnfield Sindrila waited patiently. Soon this place would fall and she would have more troops to throw into the defence. ((Back after tea for more.)) |

((Well, we already had word of the army's arrival so it would have to be later.)) |

The fog had engulfed the village of Wehnfield. The people of the village were surprised and a little concerned but paid it no mind. They had finished eating for the evening and most were relaxing in their homes after a hard days work. As was always the case, twenty men guarded the village overnight. Tonight they would be put to the test, with visibility down to the hand in front of your face, and Sindrila's raiding force about to attack. Sindrila had split the zombies, sending one half around to the other side of the village with one of the necromancers, and keeping the rest with her. The skeletons would form up into three groups, one moving ahead of the zombies Sindrila had, and the other two heading to the remaining sides of the village to surround it. The second necromancer would oversee their progress, keeping the fog in place until it was time. Sindrila moved forward, walking boldly towards Wehnfield. The skeletons marched just behind her, while the zombies shuffled and shambled further back. The others would be moving in as well. When she reached the first buildings of the village Sindrila drew her short sword and walked calmly over to one of the men standing idly about with a bow in hand. While she could see him reasonably clearly the man did not notice her in the fog. The Dark Elf wasted no motion in plunging it into the man's chest. He screamed but there was no need for concern. Even as the other men yelled and tried to figure out what was happening, the fog lifted and the skeletons charged into the attack. Someone managed to shout "Alarm! Alarm!" The man was killed shortly afterwards. On all sides of the village the skeletons and zombies attacked. Slashing and clawing their way through any that got in their way. Enough men left their houses to mount a small defence. Bowstrings twanged and some of the zombies were hit. Unfortunately for the men, their aim was off and while torsos and limbs were hit, none of the zombies were hit in the head. They came on and the men were forced to draw blades to fend them off. Sindrila made her move, running forward. She slashed out, carving a bloody wound across one man's chest. A second swung at her, but the blow was clumsy and she blocked, before stabbing him in the gut. People screamed and cried out, but rapidly the village became silent. Sindrila surveyed the bodies as the skeletons stacked them in rows. There were a lot more than in Borrton, but it was still not enough. She turned to the necromancers and spoke "What of the graveyard?" One said "It is to the north-east. It should hold enough to raise a suitable number of skeletons." "Define suitable." Sindrila said. The necromancer replied "At least a hundred." That was barely suitable. Sindrila said "You, raise the zombies, and you, follow me to the graveyard." Stalking off Sindrila Valdoran reached the graveyard and looked around. It was larger than she had imagined, and it contained many headstones. She said to the necromancer "Hurry up, we don't have time to waste." The man started chanting the arcane words and within moments skeletal hands scrabbled and burst from the earth. More and more skeletons rose from the ground. Sindrila smiled darkly as she saw them. There were many generations of people buried here, more than enough to suffice. When she returned to the centre of the village Sindrila looked over her force. Around four hundred fresh zombies from the villagers, and close to a thousand skeletons all told. Apparently the death rate in Wehnfield had been reasonably high over the years but the farmland was important enough for new people to replace the population. Sindrila said loudly "Move out, we have to return to the fort." --Leaving Wehnfield (population --Heading to Azzhrak Scaend's Stronghold-- |
