James watched as smoke rose from the far corner of the city, and he knew it was done; his heart, joyous from the news of his son, fell somewhat as he thought of the brave men who had died. |

Mordain passed a group of guards. One of them hurried over to him. "My Lord, my Lord!" he called. "Sir, the people are eager to return to their homes. Is it safe?" Mordain stopped and looked at the man. Exactly what I was thinking about earlier. Eager to return to their homes, angered that anything would upset their day, pointing their fingers at us armed with ill-informed judgements... Sickening maggots. "Yes, it is safe. The people can return to the city." "Thank you, sir." The guard turned and walked away to spread the word. Mordain kept walking. He was still weakened from sustaining that protective spell. The force of impact from the smog had been intense. Almost too much for him to deal with. Certainly the world was a lot safer without that demon in it. Mordain looked down at his hand as he walked, triggered from the thought. Would the world be a lot safer if I were not in it? Am I so different from these creatures that I hunt? ----- Krodalis stood watching the bodies of the guardsmen burn. It was... horrifying. It was true that Nhazhan had forced the King's hand, but he and his companions would cower behind the concept of 'the greater good'. They would use an out-dated and flawed piece of decaying madness masquerading as logic to justify the petty slaughter of their own countrymen. Krodalis smirked to himself. It was ironic, his hatred for such a concept because in a way it was the same principle that he pursued. Yet he dealt in absolutes. That was his difference. He did not judge the mortals any differently. He judged them all, and he judged none of them, all equally. Compromise was the path to corruption and failure, because drawing a line through what was acceptable and what was not was how the mortals ruined their world. No one man's perception could speak for the world. One may think that something was acceptable, while another would not. The whole system was broken. Life was broken. Not for long. Salvation through oblivion. Redemption through death. They can call it what they want, but they may not hide behind their honour and justifications. Where was their honour when this atrocity was committed? In the next instant, without so much as a twitch, he was gone. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James saw Mordain emerge from the city and walked over to him. "It is done, then," he said stoically, more of a statement of fact than a question. "Thank you for taking care of it." |

"Such tasks are an ugly necessity. But they are necessary." said Mordain. "Where to now, sire?" |

"I did not know you were expecting. Congratulations, my King." Mordain knew that, by now, James would know that such words from him were hollow. Yet he hoped the man would appreciate the sentiment. |

Nathaniel left the city watch Captain to see to his men. A guard had arrived and told Duir that they were able to move back into the city. The mage was walking over to where the King and Mordain stood. The spirit laughed in his ear, saying "Too scared to tell him that big bad Mordain had to butcher those guards were you? Hah, all of you mages are weak." Nathaniel tried to ignore the spirit, but so magically drained as he was it was difficult. |

"I intend to travel to Ataya. The remains of the Mystic Tower need to be inspected by a mage. It is not too far from here." |

Nathaniel said "I will accompany Lord Mordain to Ataya. I did not get the chance to see it since returning to Weissland." Grimly he said "Old memories..." |

James nodded. "Thank you for what you both did here today," he said. "Good luck to you, and I will see you back in Asulien." James and Kassal then took their leave, heading back to where they had tethered their horses, mounting up, and galloping off eastwards towards Asulien. --Leaving Valoruin-- --Entering Ledek's Span-- Edited by Hotshot, May 17 2011, 04:36 PM.

After the King had departed Nathaniel turned to Mordain and asked "Is there anything to prepare before we leave, my lord?" |

Mordain shook his head. "No, I do not believe that there is." He turned to the Seekers. "Make your way back to the prison, then take a strong number of the Order north to Asulien. Four of you remain with Nathaniel and I." ((Feel free to make two of the Seekers accompanying us your two characters.)) The Seekers nodded and moved away. Mordain lead everyone back to a stables on the outskirts of town. After securing six horses, they began to make their way to Ataya. --Leaving Valoruin-- --Heading for Ataya-- |

((Ok, I'll do that.)) Nathaniel rode at a steady pace while they cleared the area, picking up speed with the others as they were away from the crowds of citizens and guards heading back home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amongst the four Seekers were Talath Krae and Nola Siln. They had the rear of the small group, keeping a wary eye behind them for signs of trouble. --Leaving Valoruin-- --Heading for Ataya-- |
