Nhazhan ripped his clawed hand through the throat of another watchmen. He was advancing down the street, mercilessly taking out the guards as he went. A trail of bodies and blood marked his path.

-----

Mordain had become aware of the magic the moment that the demon used it. As had the other mages. One of the pupils recoiled in horror and gripped his head.

"What was that?" he exclaimed, reeling in pain. "Too dark! Too evil!"

One of the instructors rushed to their pupil's side whilst the other turned to Mordain. "Lord Mordain; that was not necromancy. What is it you are hunting?"

Mordain moved quickly towards the door. "A creature. That is all you need to know, and all that you should want to know."

"You have exposed our pupils to something beyond what they have trained for! What gives you the right?" The instructor stood with a stiff lip and puffed chest.

The Mage of Shadows rounded on the man in an instant. "Your pupils are mages of Weissland, just as you are! If Weissland has need of you, or them, then you will answer the call. That is your duty! Never forget that!"

The instructor backed down but said nothing, even biting his lip.

"Now get out of the city. Your work is done." said Mordain as he left.
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

James followed the sounds of the screams as more and more watchmen were falling to the demon. A scream caused James to change directions and head down a side street, and as soon as he rounded the corner, he came to a halt; a human-shaped demon with rotting green skin, red eyes, and a gaunt, almost skeleton-like face was advancing down the street, a slew of bodies behind him. James said nothing, merely drawing his sword and waiting for Kassal and Nathaniel to join him.

Nathaniel reached the King and saw the demon further away. His sword and staff at the ready, the mage prepared himself for the battle to come.

James stood staring down the demon as Nathaniel and Kassal arrived, along with a group of watchmen. "There is no escape, creature," said James.

"I am not looking to run." hissed Nhazhan. The demon lifted his hands towards the group of Weisslanders and fired a torrent of dark power towards them. Both the King and the mage managed to dodge, but the Royal Guards were struck. Nhazhan could not tell how much he had damaged them, but they were at least knocked to the ground. "Impressive that you would come here yourself, King of Weissland. Surely you are filled with a pointless desire to avenge your people. It is just another reason that this existence must end. Today, I will take the Master's great work one step closer to completion."

((It's just Kassal with James.))

James looked back to see Kassal pick himself up off the ground, the wind knocked out of him but no true harm done. Turning back to the demon, James asked, "How will you do that?"

((My bad.))

"This city will die, just as the last one did. The people shall have their wills broken and they will do naught but wait for death. You cannot save them." The demon's eyes narrowed. "You cannot save any of them."

Nhazhan ran his fingers across a wall. The stone eroded and hissed with green smoke at his touch. Slowly, he advanced towards his quarry. Twenty feet or so remained between them. "Hold tight that belief, King of Weissland, because it will fail you."

James motioned with his left hand, and the guards began to spread out. Kassal moved to the left to help encircle the demon, and James gripped his sword tightly, channeling his anger into preparing to strike.

Nathaniel watched and waited. This demon was powerful like the others, there was no use wasting his energy by launching spells without a care.

Nhazhan moved his hands through the air and then slowly drew them apart. As they parted, they trailed a thick smoke which then formed a staff. The surface was a black, though dulled by a sickly green substance. Once the weapon was formed Nhazhan waited for a moment. Then he struck. The demon surged to the side and struck one guardsman in the side of his mouth with a powerful and swift strike. The man fell to the ground unconscious. Another made a feeble attack which the demon blocked; the staff he held seemed to possess the same quality as Mordain's staff, in that the blade bounced harmlessly off its surface. Nhazhan then stretched his hand forward and gripped his attacker's face. The man screamed in agony as green smoke rose from Nhazhan's palm and literally melted away the guardsman's face. He cast the corpse to the ground and snarled at two approaching guards, who flinched and then stopped as they waited for someone more formidable to make a move. Nhazhan kept his staff held in both hands and waited for his enemies to make the next move.

The black-clad mage could not stand idly by as the guards were slaughtered. He had to bring the monster to him and the King. The blade wielded expertly by Castoden would deal with this demon. Nathaniel stood to the right of the King, stepping further right while keeping his eyes on the demon. He spoke the words to a spell and pointed his staff, as a bolt of lightning cracked down to strike the demon.

James swept forward, with Kassal close by his side, driving towards the demon to take advantage of the lightning strike called down by Nathaniel. As the mage's attack concluded, James was within arms length from the demon and he swung his blade towards the creature.

Nhazhan recoiled under the brunt of the lightning attack, but recomposed fast enough to defend himself. Pain was no stranger to him. He had known pain since the dawn of his existence. As he traveled further into what he knew to be his final fight, he mused at how very long he had walked the world. Truly, even he did not remember how he came to be.

Nhazhan dropped and slid his staff across the ground, catching the shins of the Royal Guard and sending him to the ground. Then, continuing his motion, he brought his staff up to strike the King in his chest, rising swiftly from the ground himself as he did so. But the King was fast. He slipped back, avoided Nhazhan's staff and caught the demon with the tip of his blade, across the creature's back. The wound was light and Nhazhan hissed as the righteous blade struck him.

James saw Kassal go down, but knew the man was not injured and kept his attention on the demon. He had avoided its swing and cut a flesh wound into it, but it would take far more to take this thing down. James attacked again, this time bringing his sword up quickly and slashing at a downwards angle, hoping to catch the creature in the shoulder or the chest.

Nhazhan was too slow and was again caught by the King's sword. A fleeting wound, but too many of them would build up. With a jaunt from his staff, he pushed the King back and then hit him with a focussed and powerful blast of foul power. The King was thrown back. Another guardsman lost his life as the demon tore through the man's neck with jagged claws. Finally, he sent a blast of dark magic at the mage.

Nathaniel saw the magic coming and reacted, hastily speaking a few words. A circular barrier formed in front of him, pale and clear like water. The dark magic struck against it, crackling and then dissapating. Realising the need to keep the demon distracted until the King could rejoin the fight, Nathaniel charged forward.

He rushed at the demon, slashing first with his sword and then sweeping his staff around, trying to keep the demon off-balance.

James was knocked down, jarring him, but his blessed armor protected him from the ill effects of the magical blast. Seeing Nathaniel charge the demon, James pulled himself up and attacked as well, coming from the demon's right side as Nathaniel attacked from the left.

Nhazhan was struck by the mage's blade, reeling in pain for but the briefest of moments. He saw the staff coming and blocked with his own, before throwing the mage back with a powerful sweep of his arm. Continuing his attack, he turned to meet the King with his grip. His hand held firm around the King's neck and forced him to stop his attack. Nhazhan's hand burned from the holy powers of the King's armour, just as the skin of the King's neck become to blacken under the strain of Nhazhan's plagued touch.

"One of the lives the Master claims today will be your's, King of Weissland." snarled Nhazhan through gritted teeth.

-----

Mordain could hear the battle close by. He felt hatred rising within as he recalled the people of Amei. This demon would die today.
