The somewhat shaken soldier took a few moments to regain his composure before speaking again. "Sire, may I ask why you are here?" Mordain eyed James from beneath his hood as he waited for the answer. He was wary of how much information should be given, even to the city watch. After all, most were not soldiers. Most were simple militia with enough training to stop the lowly criminals found in cities. They had no experience against demons. And whilst it was true that some soldiers would retire as veterans to find work in the City Watch, usually taking positions of command straight off the mark for their experience, even they would have only dealt with necromancers and undead at the worst of times. Demons... they were an entirely different ball game. Yet if the Krodalis threat was not stopped, more and more could easily appear in Weissland. Krodalis had proven he had creatures in his service the likes of which Mordain had never seen. |

"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil. "It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil. One of the Last Guardians. Suck it. | |

James thought for a moment, considering what he should tell this man, and then said simply, "There is an urgent matter which we must speak to your Captain about, a matter of the utmost secrecy at this time. You will learn more later, but I cannot tell you anything right now." |

Mordain ushered James to the corner of the room and spoke in a hushed voice. "A wise move, James. I doubt that these men could handle the truth of what we hunt. Given this monster's appearance, you may want to tell them that we are hunting one of the undead. It would... make more sense to them." He looked back at the guards before speaking again. "I was thinking of leaving to find the city's mages. They may be able to help me locate this creature." |

Mordain nodded. "Nathaniel can contact me by spell sphere should you have need of me." The Mage of Shadows turned and left the building. He moved down a nearby alley, where he knew he would find some of his Seekers in hiding. And sure enough, several appeared. "My Lord?" "I am going to find the mages of this city. Stay here and await instructions from the King." "As you command." Mordain moved through the streets and began to seek out the mages of the city. It had been years since he was in Valoruin. His memory of the layout was hazy. Finding the mages could take time. |

((Yeah, I'll rp the watch captain.)) Nathaniel kept himself to one side of the room they were in. He had overheard what the King had said to the city watchman. Drakkon had been momentarily concerned the King would reveal too much in his honesty, but clearly the war had changed the young man more than might have been apparent. |

((Ok.)) One of the city watchmen returned with Captain Duir. He snapped off a salute to the King and said "I am Captain Duir, sire." Duir was a broad-shouldered man in his late forties, with a receeding hairline and a strong jaw. He was of average height with black hair, and tanned skin clearly from years of walking outside not sitting behind a desk. |

"Of course, my liege. Follow me to my office." Duir turned and headed out into the corridor beyond the room, leading the way to a modest sized office. He opened the door and walked inside, waiting to close the door once the King had entered. |

James followed Duir, motioning for Nathaniel and Kassal to follow. James stepped into the room, followed by Kassal, and once Nathaniel was inside, Kassal closed the door. James sized up the guard Captain quickly and knew he was a man who would not be easily frightened and who could keep his wits about him. "Captain Duir, this is Nathaniel Drakkon of the Seekers, and Captain Kassal of the Royal Guard." Kassal nodded to Duir as they were introduced. |

Mordain moved through the streets. He had spotted a tower in the centre of town that bore the likely signs of a base of wizardry. He intended to go there and, if not, he would need to ask a guard. He was trying to avoid communicating with anyone though. He didn't want to alert anyone to his presence. As the Mage of Shadows looked around, he was relieved to see no signs of illness among the general population. Nhazhan clearly hadn't unleashed his plague upon this city. But the demon could not be allowed to escape. The ability to kill an entire city was far too much power for anyone. It could just as easily be turned against an army, or an entire nation if given time to spread. Mordain would not allow Nhazhan to escape. He would die to stop the demon, if he had to. |

Duir was slightly surprised and said in a moment of haste "Bloody hell, it is you isn't Drakkon?" Nathaniel nodded "Yes, Duir. Good to see you again." Duir replied "Indeed." He cleared his throat and said "And it is good to meet you as well, Captain Kassal." |

Duir took in this shocking information and waited a moment before responding "What would you have me do, my liege?" Clearly Captain Duir was not the sort of man to balk at any threat. |

"We need your men to begin an evacuation of the city while we conduct our search for the plague demon," said James. "We also need you to station men in a cordon around the city to prevent the demon from escaping if it discovers us first. Above all I must stress secrecy, caution, and calm. You cannot let the populace know the gravity of the threat, or there will be panic. I would hesitate in even informing your guards about the true nature of our enemy, but you know the constitution of your men better than I." |

Duir nodded and replied "I won't tell them exactly what is going on, it would just raise more problems I think. Regardless the city watch in Valoruin is competent and loyal, the problems of corruption in previous decades are gone now." Nathaniel added "Thanks in no small part to Captain Duir." Duir continued "I'll speak to my people and get the cordon set up first. Once it is secure we'll begin the evacuation. Valoruin isn't too big a city, I'd say it could be fully evacuated at a calm and steady pace within twenty-four hours." |
