Beneath the Barren Hills lay a legend, a half-forgotten myth of ancient and terrible times. In an underground vault, with no access from the world above, there was a kingly tomb. It could little be expected to be merely a resting place, for what King would be interred within his tomb before he passes on? The King of Half-Truths was the answer to that peculiar question.

In old ages a powerful demon King held court in part of the Defiled Kingdom, and when his nation was brought low by the forces of good and right and light, he had moved on. His knee had bended to a greater power, one he served willingly, until he was required to sleep. His servants built a mighty tomb and he did rest within the cold stone sarcophagus prepared for him. The stairs to his tomb, and the entrance above in the hills were designed to collapse at his command. And he slept, and went unnoticed for so very long by mortal eyes, and above the Barren Hills removed all trace of his tomb. For eons the demon slept, and his name was Lauati.

"If a loyal servant of Weissland is threatened, I will aid him to my dying breath, with every drop of my blood. There are older and more powerful things in the world that have faced me and underestimated my resolve, to their end." - Nathaniel Drakkon

The shadows themselves twisted and morfed within the ancient chamber as they were pulled to a focal point at the centre. The towering shade of Krodalis rose, not from the darkness, but as the darkness itself. His spectral form walked around the tomb, observing the slumbering monstrosity.

"Too long has this world been deprived of your horrors..." said Krodalis softly.

Krodalis raised his hand towards the demon and focussed his power. Thick bolts of darkness snaked around the chamber before shooting from the floor and surging into the demon.

"Awake now Lauati, King of Half-Truths! Awake now, as your Master commands!" roared the shade.

As the power coursed through the demon, the tomb began to shake...
"Stand against me if you must, for of course you will. Conflict is just another part of this flawed reality. You need to cling to your concepts and purposes, your feeble honour and glory. None of it serves any purpose in the end. And the end draws close." - Krodalis Thaendil.

"It really is amazing; she killed Kelan Wealer, not that I am complaining, but then the order welcomed her as their new leader. It makes one wonder if I were to ram a blade down her throat, would the monks then follow my commands?" - Mordain Thaendil.

As the power surged into the demon the sarcophagus shook along with the tomb around him. The stone container cracked, revealing a pale purple light, before crumbling around the demon. Lauati opened his red eyes and sat up. He spoke with a voice like rock grating together "Master, I have awoken, the time has finally come. I have dreamed long of this moment."

The demon stood up to his full height and stretched, flexing ancient muscles and cracking joints which had not moved in centuries. Finally he stretched his back to uncase leathery bat-like wings which matched the dark blue colour of his skin.

"As have I, Lauati. The time for me to walk this world draws near once again. The ancient mage lords of Weissland will have given their lives for nothing. They were fools to deny the crusade, for now it must begin again." The shade paced around the room. "Kvahla, Nhazzhan and Anaila are in pursuit of two mortals that I need in order to re-enter the world. It is my wish that you join the hunt."

Lauati nodded "I will join the hunt at once. Where are Anaila and the others now?"

"You will find them moving across the Lekath Grasslands. They will give you the information you need about your prey."

Lauati bowed his head slightly, he was bald and short horns sprouted from his head like a crown. He said "I will go now Master, to join the hunt." He picked up a strange thorned spear from amongst the ruin of the sarcophagus.

He turned to look up at the ceiling of the tomb, before raising a hand to it. He spoke in the ancient tongue of his race, and the tomb shook once more before a large hole was broken in the ceiling. Clouds of dirt poured down into the tomb but dark magic swept it aside until light shone down from the world above. The hole was wide, and Lauati spread his wings and surged into the air, flying out of the tomb into the air beyond. As he did so the tomb began to collapse completely, it was no longer needed.

Krodalis faded away as the earth consumed the tomb.
